Furdie is back at the vets on a drip again after his appetite decreased over the weekend, and he seemed a little dehydrated  :(

It seems like such a shock, because he is as determined as ever to go out to visit all his lady friends as usual

If anyone could spare him some vibes again, they would be really appreciated.

Oh, and the little yellow thing on his back in the previous pictures is his GPS tracker.  He used to go out and not bother to come back home   Just when we reached the point when he seemed to realise where home is, his terrible results came back.  He really seems to enjoy having his harness and tracker put on because it means that he gets his freedom, and now we know where to find him when it is time for him to be back for his Fortekor.

Absolutely delighted that Furdie is still doing so well Sylvia.  He looks just wonderful  :wow: :wow: :wow:

I'm intrigued; what is the yellow cylinder shaped thing attached to his back?  :-:

Sorry its been a while since I last posted, but I thought I should do a quick update.

Furdie and I are still here, and we have decided that Furdie can do what he likes and have the best possible life in whatever time we have left.

When the vet saw his results earlier this year in February/March, he gave him less than a month to live then.

So far, Furdie is still acting the same as he always has, he still wants to eat and drink and to go out and have fun.  He seems to be completely unbothered by any results.

Over the past 3 weeks, I have had to take Sweepy and Suki to the vets on separate visits, and while we were there all the vets, nurses and receptionists have been asking after Furdie.  Furdie's vet was at least able to give me some indication of what to expect.  We just have to treat each day he is with us as a bonus.

I just thought I would post a couple of pics of him enjoying himself in the garden a couple of weeks ago

and one of him outside yesterday

I know when we have had that dreaded result at the Clan we take them home and love them and let then do as they please the majority have outlived the nasty prognosis and our darling Moose was given 3 weeks he had another glorious 9 months and enjoyed the sun and we loved him for who he was not the diagnosis

I emailed you a summary about Fred Sylvia a while back.  Can I suggest you have a quick look?

It summarises his test results when he was ill and gives the normal range too.  They are significantly lower than you have posted.  I am not a vet but think the results you have posted are not at all good.  I think createnine is generally the more important of the three

Just in case this means something to anyone else, Furdie's results were as follows:
UREA    > 46.4 mmol/L  normal range 5.7 to 12.9
CREA    706 μmol/L    normal range 71-212
PHOS    4.19 mmol/L

I was hoping for a miracle, but it wasn't to be  :(

I can't believe that Furdie still seems to be OK with results like that.  He has been out enjoying the sun today  :)  Furdie definitely doesn't understand numbers either.

Even though the vet has given up, Furdie hasn't yet.

Thats all that matters isn't it?  I don't know how high Furdie's numbers are but throughout the progression of his renal failure  my Korky was always clinically better than his numbers suggested.  I used to say he stayed well because he just didn't understand numbers.  I hope the same is true of Furdie.

Well I couldn't wait, so I popped into the vet on my way back to the car from work, and asked if they could let me have a copy of the results.  While I was waiting for them to print them, Furdie's vet came out to ask for the next patient to go in, but he saw me waiting and said that Furdie's results had gone up really high again as he'd expected them to.  He said that there's nothing more that can be done for Furdie, and that we need to keep a close eye on him.

 :'(

In himself Furdie seems to be OK and still wants to eat, drink and to go out and potter around in the fresh air as usual.  I suppose we'll just have to keep watching out for any changes.  Even though the vet has given up, Furdie hasn't yet.

Many thanks for all your hugs and good wishes, they are really appreciated  :thanks:

Furdie behaved really well at the vets, even though he had serenaded me all the way there in the car, however I'm now worried because he has lost 0.2kg since 2 weeks ago.  He wasn't that big to start with, and now he only weighs 3.6kg  :scared:

While we were there, I got them to check his hydration, and at least he seems to be OK for that  :)

Now we have a nervous wait for the results.  The nurse said that Furdie's vet is in on Friday and Saturday and that he would probably try to get in touch on one of those days.  I hope he doesn't make us wait until Saturday  :waiting:

Thank you Rosella and Gill  :thanks:

The worry before was that I didn't really know what I should expect to happen, so I will be looking out for the symptoms that you mentioned Rosella.

He did seem a little quiet yesterday evening, but he seems to have regained his voice and is a bit more lively tonight, so after a bit of a tearful day today, I'm allowing myself a small one of these  :)

Sadly, with CRF, there comes the inevitable time when you have to decide whether the intervention of IV fluids is too intrusive.  Everything of course will depend on the individual cat and whether the vet trip and giving IVs stresses them or not.  Still can't think of Fred without breaking down but, if I'm honest, I think I left it a little too long as Freddie's blood results were off the scale.  Only a matter of hours really so that I could get OH to agree but I could kick myself for giving in and agreeing to one last attempt to save him.

I hope you are not there yet with Furdie but, if you trust your vet, hopefully he/she can lead you to the right decision when the time is right.  At least you have been given more time to have another read of Tanya's site.  Please particularly look out for drooping head and not being able to get comfortable.  Sorry if this sounds blunt.  Can't begin to tell you how much love and feeling are being sent in Furdie's direction

Thank you to everyone from Furdie and me for all your good wishes  :thanks:

They must have worked, because the vet rang and spoke to Jim this afternoon, and said that Furdie's blood test results were very much improved, and that my nurse appointment to visit Furdie had changed into a vet visit so that I could pick him up and bring him home  :yayyy: :yayyy: :yayyy:

When I spoke to the vet, he said that I need to take Furdie back for another blood test in 2 weeks, but he also said at least 3 times that the good results may just have been because Furdie was on the IV fluids, and now that he was off them that he could be just as bad again in 2 or 3 days  :scared:

I was so happy when I first heard that the blood tests were so much better, but now I am very worried at the same time, so I will be keeping an even closer eye on my baby.

I feel like Furdie and I have been at that precipice that they talk about on the Tanya's feline CRF website, and that Furdie had taken a huge great leap off the edge, and that I was only holding on by my toes in the attempt to grab him back, but at least we are back for now  :tired:

Thank you again for all the support  :thanks:
