Thank you for all your thoughtful replies, it really means a lot. Yes, it was a terrible thing to witness - every cats lovers nightmare
And you know the worst thing is the driver didn't even stop. If I had had my wits about me then I could have taken down their number plate, but my first priority was obviously to help the cat...
Anyhow, a bit more about Sparkey. He was a star. I work as a postie and part of my route covers a rather rough housing estate, so I come across a lot of stray, uncared for animals and hence I end up making good friends with them! Sparkey was no exception and, being a black and white cat, he obviously felt the need to take on the role as "Jess" and so would regularly come for a ride on my trolley (much to the amusement of passers by!) He really was a great pal and so affectionate. The sad thing is, his owner really did not care for him and when I told her the news about what had happened, her main concern was the vet bill!
So as much as it was a horror to witness his end, on the positive side I was able to take him to the vet immediately where they gave him pain relief and oxygen, otherwise he could have lay suffering for who knows how long...
3 out of the 4 cats I own have been rescued from my "route". Sparkey's predecessor, Megan, can be seen in my avatar (more about her later!)
So that is Sparkey's story. My heart breaks just telling it. Today was SO tough as I had to go back to where he stays. His little buddy named Brodie is lost without him
I know how he feels!
Thank you all again for your support
