shes now refusing ad special food but eating other stuff i bought her in sachets that looked appetising :innocent: I have a feeling she is going to be one of those fussy cats who changes their mind each day :innocent:
daughter said mo;s ribs dont feel as prominent, shes also got some weight on her belly and opening u her mouth too as before she found it very uncomfortable.
i texted lady to ask for her surname and home adress in case her vet needed to know to transfer her details to my vet but she hasnst replied :innocent:

I have to say, post bath she already looks better (poor girl!).  She shows a lot of promise.  I bet once her mouth has stopped hurting her she'll fill out beautifully.

To be honest I dont think that she looks that bad and Ducha would probably look worse cos he also only has one back leg.

So much of cats is their big fur and reckon you will find that she has already put weight on since she arrived with you and now she has used the tray it means that she has something going into her body and coming out.

I am sure that she will be around 2 kgs when she is next weighed .

She is going to be a lovely girl  ;D

horrendous bath pic...sorry folks, just want to show what poor mo is going through. she was very sticky and dirty with the gunk all over her face and paws so despite trying to flannel it off it was simpler to give her a quick bath :(

thxs gill
well mo is now bathed and cleaned (well face clean up lasted about an hour till it regunked :-[) her ears are now pink but still need mite stuff putting in when vet thinks its ok..
i took some pics of her in the bath so you can see the full extent of the state of her :censored:
poor girl just stood there like she was on show, the only place she hates being touched is near her mouth but not suprised.
poor little mo , she must have been stunning once with those huge blue eyes, just pray she will be again. the kids are being good as they demanded to know why shes locked in bathroom but even the youngest understands that mo is very poorly :shy:
oh a result..mo has done a poo :wow:  strange how its something to celebrate

Am pretty sure that the gunk coming out is good but sounds like she needs more abs as she has a huge infection.

I think that she is doing remarkably well with your loving care

gill i can actually see her eyes today :wow:, they are a very pale blue, the centres look a bit red/albino, not sure what that is but sure vet will know... shes going into isolation in top bathroom now though :-[ i know its best for all the cats but visualise myself sat in there with a book to keep her company :shy:
the gunk is still coming though, never seen anything like it, its never ending..she woke me up by coughing up a load of it on my bedroom carpet
shes not eaten so much today yet but got a chicken in so see if that tempts her later. ive got some shampoo and eye cleaner etc so im going to attempt to at least wash off those gunky paws and wipe off her chops properly.
I aslo bought her another bed...a triangle house this time and a new snuggle blanket, dont ask why as i bought her a bed on weds  :shify:which she has refused to use :innocent:
hopefully Georgia and miyagi will be happier as they can reclaim downstairs again, just got to make sure its all sterile before they start their patrols...for some reason now mo has four bowls, one for her ad meat, one for her canin biscuits or chopped chicken, one for milk and one for water  it does keep disapearing though so she is working her way though it......miyagi and georgia also had a double breakfast as i fed them then daughter came down and fed them...accusing my of neglecting them :innocent:

Yes, this is the smiley you want  :brick: and I know exactly how you feel.

Personally I think the previous owner needs to be found and prosecuted. No matter what she told you, the state that animal has been allowed to get into is cruelty of the highest degree, and the owners need to be stopped from doing this ever again.

The only explanation that MAY hold water is if her previous vet had written poor Mo off and advised PTS which the owner didn't want. I would get the pics to the RSPCA with your statement and let them investigate fully. You may be saving countless other animals from the same fate and your conscience will be clear.

I'm very pleased you've committed to this poor creature, I do hope she's going to be OK, and I know that if she's only got the slightlest chance of making it, it will be wholly down to yours and your daughter's love. I salute you.

As for the possible FelV contagion, it's awful contemplating the worst case scenarios, but there's an elephant in the room here that no-one was mentioning. Someone had to say it as your other cats may be at risk. Sorry it was me  :innocent: but better safe than sorry AND once you've accepted the possibility, everything else is good news.  :)

Delighted to hear she's perking up, it really does sound like she's making a fight of it with your support. Bless your hearts

thxs all
oh shiela, is there a smiley on here for banging your head on the ground :-[
Ive been reading up on some of the dieases so have got concerns but trying not to fret till i see vet on tues. basically she was close to death when she arrived so the vet said tests etc, all the worming, ear mites etc will come later when she is in a stable enough state to be able to endure it.
he did give her an anti biotic shot for her mouth ulcers but other than that there wasnt anything else he would have liked to do in her present state.
re the milk..shes drinking water as well, i could dilute the milk though just in case :shy:
she has really perked up today though :wow: shes started grooming and eaten a tin of the ad stuff again (fed by daughter who is now mos food slave :innocent:)
the gunk is still coming out but im sure her mouth may be feeling a bit better if she is able to now lick her paws..althugh she tends to slime them instead
Its not so much the tear stuff im worried about as just keeping the whole area clean in general at the moment, the gunk sticks like glue so having to wet flannel her face at moment and make sure its not going up to her eyes although after watching her groom her face with her paws its likely it has :-:
she is moving quicker, trotting about and laying stetched out, she looks more relaxed which is good to see although that may just be her character rather than her health.. Im yet to see.
i dont want to isolate her in a room on her own really but if its for the best then i do have a room upstairs and a spare bathroom. Ive let her nest in my room mainly as the first night i was so wrried i wanted to be next to her in case she took a turn for the worst...
I will look at your links though for sure to make sure im up t date n all the possibilitys. Mo's had an awfull life lately and im not giving up on her, shes melted all our hearts :shy:

At risk of making your night worse, I've thrown a few ideas down here - too much time on my hands tonight.

It's stuff I wish I'd known years ago when I started rescuing sickly cats, much of which I've learned from this forum.

Have a shuffle through this page:

http://www.fabcats.org/owners/mouth/info.html

There are definitions of most mouth problems, you can see better than we can what's happening, there may be a clue for you here.

The constant drooling will be contributing to her dehydration. Can you let down the kitten milk with a little water to help her fluid intake?

I would leave her stained fur until later, the preparations that deal with this might not be good for her right now.

Here it is, though:  http://www.vetuk.co.uk/eye-products-c-663/tear-stainum-remover-p-4805

As for the poo in her ears, that's precisely what it will be, earmite poo is the black stuff she's clogged up with and needs to be removed. There are videos on line showing how to do this using cotton pads.

http://www.vetuk.co.uk/ear-products-c-8/cleanaural-cat-ear-cleaner-p-32

The mites themselves usually need to be killed off using Canaural lotion that your vet will prescribe. Everyday for two weeks. She needs an effective flea treatment like Frontline to help kill of any mites that may not be directly inside the ear canal, and her surroundings will need to be treated with an insecticide like Indorex. Earmites are easily transmitted between animals, so this is quite important.

If she's had fleas and earmites she will certainly have worms. Your vet will advise when it is safe to administer worm and flea treatments, as she's so frail just now you need to be sure not to overload her with too many preparations, and they need to be done in order of priority. When you see the vet take a notepad with you and get him to order each of the treatments for you, so he may worm her for you, but advise leaving her for a few days before applying the flea treatment.

Please also bear in mind, if you are likely to ask for a blood test, insist this is done BEFORE the vet administers ANY anti-biotics, as these skew any results and mean you may be dosing her with ABs she doesn't actually need for weeks before you can get her tests done.

I will mention FIV here. If she is FIV positive, please don't freak out. Many false positives are found on the preliminary tests. If the secondary test is also positive, you need to come back to us for advice because this is not a dangerous condition and new research is disproving the old wives tales over and over. In fact, if my new intakes seem healthy I choose now NOT to test, because I know I would not treat them any differently if I knew they were FIV+ve or not. FIV is transmitted only by deep bite wound or direct transfer into the blood stream or sexual contact. It is not transferred by sharing food bowls, litter boxes or casual contact (cuddles).

FelV, however is a far more serious matter and as she is frail and sick already, I would ask for the FelV test.
This is a highly contagious and lethal condition that can be spread to other cats by the saliva and nasal secretions and has a longer shelf life outside the body - up to 2 days, so can be transmitted by shared water and food bowls, litter boxes and on human hands. If she has FelV there is little you can do for her, especially as she's already sick. Felv does not affect humans or dogs, however.

She is already showing some worrying symptoms and you do need the FelV test, as soon as you can.

Hi
Poor Mo.
Eye envy is good for stains and think its antibiotic too. You can buy from Purrsonal touch (online too ) its around £16- £18 as got mine a while back and it's the best you can buy for eye stains.
Also if you have Asda nearby ,you can get their own make cosmetic eye pads to use with the eye cleaner. There are only £1 for over 100.

lord knows whats going on here at the moment-thanks all..im trying not to worry about will(my son) as the specialist seemed a bit mad/eccentric and was twitching more than will  so hoping its a precaution , his eye  test was just a shining in the eyes rather than a full on test...i may take will to opticions this week to see if they pick anything up as well as not sure when an appointment from hospital will arrive :scared:

re mo.. shes very messy around eyes and face fur, ive wiped down , picked out loose bits and groomed out as much as i can but is there a good product for eye stains in cats do you know, looking online they all seem to be in america! I have ran out of wipes i used on miyagi so having to use a wet flannel at moment with a bit of dilute cat foam on the cheeks but she looks awfull bless her.
I dont want to get her over wet though as scared it may be too much at the moment. she has also thoughtfully chewed her tail fur and think the mouth gunk has acted like glue on it

hi been a hectic day today
just got back from hospital with son, hes been having muscle spasms and does other stuff so they think its possible he has tourettes although worse is the man said it was cloudy behind sons eyes and he now needs an mri to check there isnt a mass behind his eyes :(
so life is all over the place....
mo has been eating finely chopped chicken prepared by oh (he seems very upset over mo and been fussing the other cats for first time!), mo has also been lapping up the cat milk and seems to love it :wow:
shes still slobbering gunk from mouth though but does seem a bit perkier than when she arrived.
she has her own bowls and has the domain of kitchen during day and sleeps with me at night when i carry her up to bed. the other two have the run of rest of house, there has been moments where they have passed due to children leaving doors open etc , its hard to control with people coming and going every minute but thankfully my two furrballs seem to be keeping their distance from mo and dont have any desire to try to get to her or her food.
If i go to my room i take mo up too and let her sit on the bed (shes spurned the new bed, blanket and furry rug :innocent:)
Miyagi is sulking as i normally let him sit on my window sill :scared:
Georgia is banned from my room anyway as she has the habit of running in jumping on duvet, peeing on it and running off...why i dont know
she did stop that behaviour when it was summer as she was out most of the day in the garden but think her and miyagi may be going a bit stir crazy as weathers awfull, fireworks still going off here so i dont want them out.
Miyagi actually forgave me last night after i had a little chat with him :evillaugh: he did wander off after our discussion to sit on my laptop giving me a smug grin as if to say ha what you gonna do now huh  so i just smiled and went upstairs so he followed me up to sit and watch me in bath as he sat in the sink, then played catch the bubbles
poor mo doesnt seem interested in playing with any toys etc but no wonder really :innocent:
she is definately more of a cat ..cat though as loves to follow you about wind around your legs and do fridge patrol. Miyagi is more dog like, he likes to sit at ohs feet with his paws in ohs flipflops or playing fetch
Georgia is slightly bonkers but her mom was feral so think she still has a little wildness in her hence her permament play stalking of anything and everything and growling over her food

probably best that they keep a distance for now anyway, poor mo could have something catching - I'm sure she hasn't but just in case

Oh my word, I just saw this. Bless you for saving her this far. I too would be cautious about letting her mix with your other cats this soon, though.

Something nasty (I'm thinking possibly FelV) lurking in the background may only become apparent with blood tests, by then it may have spread to the others. Can you house and feed her separately from the others until this has been ruled out?

OK- if the previous owner claims she took Mo to the vets 2 weeks ago and she was given antibiotics - ask for vet details, say your vet needs to know what antibniotics Mo was on.... Your vet needs to be able to request past history anyway and I do not believe Mo seen a vet in the last 2 weeks and that the vet never notices how poorly she looked... :(

I am sure the fur is a symptom of her mal nurishment and once she gains health again it will improve although it will take time.

Ducha who is very thin still has nice fur although like with Franta they shed a lot but then he is 18  yrs plus.

hi than for all the advice and support
re the ulcers, i thin the vet just wants to get her weight up first before we discuss tests etc as she really is that skinny. in the pics you cant actually see that she has no body fat...at all :'(
im to go bac next tues to see if shes gained weight and if the ulcers are responding at all..poor girl had puss like gun on her mouth so just cleaned that up and then she lapped up a lot of kitten milk so she wasnt amused i wiped her off again :innocent:
i will order some of the powder, that sounds a good idea as her immune system may be very low at moment vet said so anyway i can get her to perk up will be brilliant :shy:
do you think her hair is so thin because of how malnourished she is, its very sparse, not like miyagi who has top coat, undercoat and a lot more just for spares :evillaugh:
such a shame poor girl, i stroked two lovely cats on the way to collect kids and even the street cats round here look in tiptop shape compared to mo :scared:
she has also left a fair amount of her hair on my bed so guess its falling out as well..

pandora has it and has been fine so far.
Smartie has the Herpesvirus ,but never had any mouth ulcers, but wonder now if that could have been part cause of his nose tumour ?

Poor baby , I am so please you now have her and she has the potential to be stunning with love , care and good food.

With the ulcers , have they thought about calichi (sp) virus ? That causes ulcers in the mouth and snuffling/ sneezing.

Loads of small and often meals and the kitten milk will help too, also a heat pad and fleecy blanket to keep her warm as she has no weight on her.

Good luck ,will be looking forward to updates on her and hope she improves every day.

Also , there is a good vitamin powder she would benefit from called Aviproplus , it's £8.50 delivered from.
Petsense and can work wonders . You can put in drinking water or mix a small amount and give it direct in a syringe , I use it a lot on my Persians.

Poor little soul.  I bet she'll feed up to be an absolute beauty, assuming her general health turns out not to be so bad as a result of renal problems.

I guess, maybe the woman did love her very much, but was ignorant how to care for her.  Cats can lose weight and condition very quickly when they're ill, and as many of us know, they're expert at concealing the true extent of their discomfort.

Whether she had her to the vet or not, she may be too ashamed to own up to it.  There was a bit on TV this morning saying how many animal shelters are seeing animals brought in because owners can no longer afford to care for them, many of them having illnesses of long standing which clearly haven't been treated because either their owners couldn't afford it, or couldn't be bothered to seek help.

Your babies will be weighing up the new intruder on their patch, hence the cold shoulder treatment.      I hope everything goes well for you all.

probably best that they keep a distance for now anyway, poor mo could have something catching - I'm sure she hasn't but just in case

personally I wouldn't get into a dialogue with the previous owner, it could get nasty, just concentrate on what you are doing with getting mo fixed

Anka, im going to text lady later to as for details. i cant actually speak to her on phone as too emotional, in reality id love a frank and honest discussion as to what happened so i know how best to proceed with mo but so hard..
the woman seemed like a lovely lady hough, thats whats really messing with my brain. i wonder if she came back from away, no ones fed mo and she was too ashamed or scared to take mo to vets?? its no excuse at all if that is the case but im having trouble with dealing with how she seemed to love mo...but let this happen
Mo has now taken up residence under the stair cupboard in the kitchen, she has a routine of cupboard, food, stand and stare at me, wander up, go bac to food, then cupboard :innocent:
the other two cats i have are now ignoring me :-[ nd run for the hills if i come near as i presume i stink of mo... they havent gone for her and sneak peeks but arent impressed at all to this new invader of their house. :-[
mo however seems blissfully unaware as to the cat tension :innocent:

Could your vet contact the previous vet for the cat's history notes perhaps?

Hope all is well with this poor baby, good she landed with you ...

Poor little baby Thank goodness for people like you :) this is the first day to the begining of a new life for her and just to be away from that so called owner is a step forward I'm sure with all the love care and attention that you give her she will be the back to full health and beauty very soon , (I can already see her potential to be a real stunner)  ;)

Best wishes and Hugs to little mo   and hug to you for saving her
