No word from this woman who reckoned she could get a photo of that cat asap for me. I will text her tomorrow. My Dad was able to go knocking on a few doors in that area though this evening for me, and took Billy's photo, no one he spoke to recognised Billy but they knew of a few black/white cats on that road, but just not Billy. Still hopeful that this woman can photograph the cat she's been seeing though.

I think any cat that might have been used to stealing food would panic of they realise a human is there behind them, he could have been used to doing it where people shouted at him to getout and chased him out. I know it's a long shot with the blue collar but that suggests it's a male cat that someone thinks they own, maybe a family found him and put the collar on but he's used to stealing his food so going into this ladies house to eat as well. Billy is a very hungry cat and always ate a lot despite being thin. This lady says this cat that she sees is thin and I didn't prompt that she just described him that way.

Oh dear, most frustrating. We'll keep hunting while you sort this one out, won't we Rosella (oneglove) Moggy?  ;)

PS he sounds a bit flighty to be Billy. But when I really want to trap an intruder I just set the flap to "IN" only.

They create a heck of a racket when they realise, and if he does escape, the little guy thinks twice about coming back. Might be best to go softly here in case it is Billy - don't want him spooked at this stage.

I don't know and I'm confused...

she said on the phone that this cat comes in her cat flap and eats her cats food. I asked was this regular ? She said yes everyday. I said is it worth me knocking doors putting up posters etc and she said wait until she gets a photograph and emails it to me! I don't know when this is going to happen and quite anxious now. Texted her after the phonecall toask her if she could trap him in her house and she said as soon as she goes near him eating he runs out the catflap :(

So I am just waiting at work and hoping she gets a pic soon!!!!

So I've heard from the lady from animal search UK. ............ She lives 5 minutes walk from my parents house!

So what's the plan?  Has she got a photo of him yet?  Any chance she could have him scanned?

Sarah just texted me back to say the same thing, sorry.   :(

So pleased for the other kitty though - I reckon Arnold is awash with lost black and white cats, so it's only a matter of time before Billy pops up somewhere.  :)

Still positive here, Elle  :head rub:

Elle, have you seen this Found post on NPR?

http://www.nationalpetregister.org/fp/37395.htm

Hi Sheila, yes I have been in touch with this lady, she contacted me cos of my preloved advert for Billy and she sent me some photos of the cat which I could see wasn't Billy. However, because I put her in touch with the rescue I foster for, the cat has found its owner because RACR rescue have contacts on facebook who identified the cat as being one who went missing 6 weeks ago from Bulwell. He's an entire tom not chipped as RACR scanned him, but through the pwers of facebook....!!

So I#ve heard from the lady from animal search UK. The cat in question comes in her cat flap and eats her cats food regularly. This cat she says looks very like Billy but is wearing a blue collar. She lives 5 minutes walk from my parents house!

I am not discouraged much by the collar as I reckon someone may have adopted him and put another collar on. The fact she is saying this cat does look like him but the collar (knowing that I put Billy online as having a red collar) confused her.

Hello, I was just wondering if this cat is still missing? I live in Arnold and a cat looking very similar to Billy keeps coming into my house! At the moment I'm trying to get a photo of him for comparison.

this was through the animalsearch UK lost/found register and they saw my ad. Emailed back straight away, waitng for a response.

Right I've just gone back to the listing to get the ref number to email them and now a photo has been uploaded!!

http://www.animalsearchuk.co.uk/view_found_pet.php?petref=AFP49730

Clearly not Billy. However, no email from the finder to even acknowledge me. I've still emailed the site to ask them if messages are actually getting through as you said it might be innocent and tyey haven't actually received anything from me at all.

Can you e-mail the moderator of the site and check the e-mails are getting through? Just a thought but I know sometimes technology goes all wrong, so it might not be the folk at fault, but the system?

Saw this:

http://www.animalsearchuk.co.uk/view_found_pet.php?petref=AFP49730

A long shot as they say un-neutered but have known vets to get that one wrong.

Thank you!! I saw this at 6pm yesterday, contacted the finder but the animal search website holds the replies in a queue to be moderated. It was like that for hours but this morning my reply seems to be listing as sent so I am waiting now hoping!!!!!

The fact that they say microcipped unknown gives me hope that the person hasn't even been to a vet yet, because a vet would scan if they took it in as a stray, so I'm thinking the finder has decided the cat isn't neutered which as you say, people can get it wrong :)

I'm waiting........... checking my emails constantly!!!

So Sorry it wasn't Billy but I agree with Helen.  There are more kind people out there than the press would have you believe.  I'm sure Billy will have found someone to look after him until you are reunited.  Good idea about the car  ... the more posters on it the more chance people will have a look  ;)

Sorry it wasn't Billy - but it goes to show there are kind, wonderful people out there, one of whom is probably looking after young Billy for you. Don't give up hope.

Seconded

I would guess by now that he has been taken in by someone or is at least being fed by someone so maybe a renewed leaflet poster drop saying something like 'are you feeding a stray or have you/someone you know taken in a new cat in the last 6 months' might be the way to go. If you can spare your car at the weekends leave it someone prominent in the supermarket carpark with posters plastered over every square inch of glass, people can't help but look.

This cat is the one with the silver collar that 2 people have phoned me about. The person who took the cat in put an advert on g*mtree looking for the owner and the cat has been taken to the scanned but the chip is wrong. Apparently it leads back to a womans house in Swansea who had a cat years ago that died and she's not had one since. So faulty chip the vet said.

So this person sent me this pic and also requested at first a pic of billy and he confirmed it wasn't the same cat, then sent me this one so I can be reassured it's not him. Quite a lovely little thing. Hope they find the owners.

Sheila - my Dad will come with me as he has always done when out searching for Billy. He's been really good.

Did the original caller say whether she had noticed a collar at all? It could even be there are two different cats - the one which the first caller saw, who rang you as a result of the g*mtree ad and then the one the two callers from yesterday had seen with the collar, who rang you as a result of the posters seen.

The first lady that alerted me to the carrington area emailed me (and has since) through g*mtree has said the following:

Quote
I dont remember a collar on the cat i saw, i was more worried about it crossing the road........ but these 2 responses are great news.
As previously said there are 2 b/w cats that live around here and neither of them have a collar at all so at least we know its not them.

She asked which roads the 2 callers said they'd seen the cat and I told them to her and she said they were right near where she lived and she seems to know the 2 black and white cats that live in the area, which is good. The young lad that rang said this b/w cat with silver collar had only been there about a month and he said it was outside all the time trying to get into the hostel he lives in. I know the hostel on his street funnily enough as my nephew went to live there for a while.

I'm going tomorrow with my Dad and he says he will knock a few doors to ask people. Whatever happens, it seems this b/w cat is unusual to that area.... maybe it is lost if it's not Billy, in which case I'd be happy to take it to the vets to get scanned.

I think a 17 year old boy would probably mistake Billy's bum for girl bits  :-[

Worth chasing up, definitely. Beware of bogus callers, though. If you're in the least bit suspicious, make sure you take someone with you, OK?

Still got everything crossed, Elle. Think you're doing brilliantly.

The collar with the 'I am microchipped' would be odd if it was Billy but still worth following up nonetheless

As you say photos would be helpful, but he has been missing a time now and if he has been hanging around and been fed he may have been adopted!

Its very hard to sex a cat so would take that with a pinch of salt.

One problem I do see is that the time delay between sightings and you being able to get there can mean a cat has moved on.........this one maybe not.
