Sorry to hear about Elles condition, but i do have a nice story for you.

When i was at school a friends dad bought a real runty siamese from some dodgy breeder, she was never a healthy cat, was never able to keep weight on and by the age of 5 had hardly any teeth left. They often took her to the vets, they ran bloods and just kept saying theres nothing wrong shes just a runt. One day the cat was seen by a young locum he was shocked no investigative work had been done and took her in straight away for xrays. Turns out all her organs were shoved up towards her chest, she was operated on to move them back to a more normal position and she has been fine since  :)
Cats are strong beasties and she has a great mum to see her through this

very pleased she had a peaceful night smudge.

The bruising probably will get worse before it is better but tell me how extensive is it over her abdomen ??  I only ask because if it was REALLY alot of bruising i'd ring and double check the vets are happy as they know what they did in the op so will have a good idea if the bruising is more than they'd expect.

Has she had blood tests done at all smudge with haematology in mind ? (her blood cell and platelet counts etc)

to pick her up if you need to smudge try and put your hand under her chest between her front legs and under her bum if that makes sense so you dont have to touch her tum at all.  Or i normally scoop cody up just by putting hands on his shoulders and back legs and he sort of falls over into my arms if that makes sense, she might be abit rigid though if shes sore.  or you can just lift her on the sheep skin so not actually touching her at all.

vetergesic good stuff. it can have slight sedating effects aswell which is also good just now.  (think i have couple of vials in house actually)

Oh Smudge - I'm so sorry life has dealt you another cruel blow   I hope it's like Lynn says and that her organs being on one side of her body isn't a problem - if she's not had any problems so far maybe it will all be ok.  I certainly hope so and will be keeping everything crossed for you and Elle   I'm glad you've got a good vet too.

Good news about Daisly.  I'm glad everything went smoothly with her and that she's recovering well.

It was midline which makes it really hard to know how to move her when i have to  :( :( :( I'm so scared of hurting her I know it sounds silly but I try not to let her see me sobing as they do pick up on emotions dont they

The pain killer is called vetergesic and I have to give her the next injection at about midnight unless she is still asleep. Unfortunately the injections only last for 6 hours at a time but have no repercussions on the kidney apparently. they did say her surgery took a hell of a long time because nothing was where it should have been... she is far from out of the woods yet I know and we have a long few days ahead

I just wish my mum was alive to give me a mummy hug and to tell me as she always did "she will be OK darling"  :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

Smudge I really don't know what to say ... sending a "cyber" hug really doesn't seem enough .

At times like this I wish we all lived nearer to each other so we could all pop round and offer more support when a member of the forum needs us.

As Gill says your vet sounds wonderful and  hopefully Elle will soon be feeling better.

Take care hun and know we are all thinking of you.

oh what a shame the poor wee mite.  Was she operated on midline i guess smudge ?

It sounds like they would have done a heck of a lot of looking, prodding, moving around inside her to see exactly what all was adrift.

What type of painkiller is it she is getting ?

My sooty  :Luv:  used to have his own real sheepskin rug and he loved it to bits  :Luv:

You are right, if she's sleeping she is getting a bit of restbite i reckon.

Poor lil elle, yes the more sleep she can get the better it is I think.

All that bruising must be so painful.

Gentle strokes to her

oh what can i say..my god something is being very cruel to you just now to enflict so much grief and worry upon you.

Did the vets manage to remove the reproductive organs that were there then ?  Its is always a risk if something is abnormal or not right then other things might be abnormal too..i guess thats why your vet wanted a look.

But hey..fear not this isnt necessarily bad news !! the rest of her organs are maybe totally normal even if they are in odd places and she didnt need her reproductive bits anyway.  I hope the results all come back with good news for you.

   Hope they are both feeling better soon aswell

Lynn X

Thankyou all

I remember saying it recently but I didn't think I had anymore tears left.

They did manage to remove all the bits and pieces and they said thats why she is so uncomfortable today, she has her own proper sheepskin blanket that she loves and I have just lifted her on it from the cage into the carrier so I dint have to disturb her too much. Her tummy is black and blue, if thats on the outside I dread to think how it is on the inside and how painful it must be, it doesn't bare thinking about

she is so very fast asleep at the moment having at last eaten a little chicken so everyone in the house is banned from making any noise even the dogs lol my theory is all the time she is asleep its less time for her to be in pain and recovering a little at a time

Daisy sends head kisses to you all for your good wishes and at the moment Elle is sending little baby snores

Thanks all again

DAISY AND ELLE'S SPAY :( :(
« Reply #1 on: April 25, 2007, 21:07:17 PM »
Hi all
Just wanted to update you all about my babies spay  :'( :'( :'(

Daisy was absolutely fine and went extremely well, although a little uncomfortable she is happy and content :)

Elle's was not such good news.........I knew they were going to investigate the kidney that couldn't be felt and the worry of that was bad enough, I had no idea what sadness was going to greet me when I went to collect them for their discharge.... Elle was in a poorly way and they were gobsmacked with what they found...... she had no cervix, only half a uterus a very deformed ovary in the wrong place and a tiny bit of another ovary growing somewhere it shouldn't be AND YES ONLY ONE KIDNEY.... :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

She has no organs on one side of her body, everything was pushed to one side and they have no idea why or how she could have shown no signs of anything wrong............my poor poor little wee princess

They have sent of samples and cultures etc etc and have to wait for the results to come back, they also have done a test to see what capacity the kidney she has is working at and I have to wait for that too................... she has been back to the vets twice today for pain killer injections as she is not allowed metacam now they know she has only one kidney. she is allowed pain relief every 6 hours and now I have the injections so she doesn't have to go to the vet tomorrow or during the night

The sad thing is she kept spitting and hissing at me when we got home and she started to come round as though she hated me which really, really upset me........at 4.30am as I was laying on the floor next to her cage her little paw reached out and touched my face and she was my friend again thank god

My husband came in got emotional as Elle and I had fallen asleep with her paw through the bar just resting on my face and he said he could see I had fallen asleep crying  :'( :'( :'( :'(

I'm so glad I have such a good vet and every single one of the staff are wonderful............the waiting for the results seems like its taking forever but I will let you all know the outcome of my little wee princess  :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
