Definitely get the lifetime cover! I'm with Petplan and I think it costs roughly £24 per month for my 2 cats.  The premiums only go up by a couple of £'s each month each year.  I have never had any problem with them so far.

My wee Harvey has a heart murmur and chylothorax so will continually need medication/check-ups etc.  He has cost over £6000 in vet fees over his 5 years.

I don't think it's per year per condition - just per year.  I don't think  many offer per year per condition?  That would mean offering e.g. £7000 per condition each year which could, theoretically, run to many thousands in an insurance period.  Per year means there is a pot of money that can be used for whatever - so you could spend it all on one condition  or could spend it on more than one condition, but once your £7000 is spent that's it for the year.  The following year the pot is renewed and you have another £7000 to spend on either the same condition or something new.

I've just been looking at the policy again and it doesn't actually say per year, per condition, the wording is 'per period of insurance'  I think I'm going to call them tomorrow and check it is per year, per condition which is what I want!

As for Maisie being a 'normal' moggie - how very dare you - she is not merely normal, she's a Princess  :naughty:

SSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Helen, she's bad enough as it is!  ;D

The massive price hike I had was last October for the birmans and it was so high I cancelled the insurance cos couldnt get close to it anywhere else either but they were 17yrs old.

Have to say that the massive bill I had for Napoleon would have been paid but I really didnt think anything serious would go wrong, gonna take me nearly two years to pay the lovely vet and he knocked of loads off the bill.

Abnomally is that I did a quote for a 5yr old birman and was very good quote about £7 a month but done one for 10 month old birman and its nearly double!

Gonna try one for a year old and see what happens......sigh

Jaffa and Mosi are with Axa.  Jaffa hasn't been with them for long and I pay about £15.80 per month for him (he's 14).  Mosi has been with them for a few years and whilst it goes up a little each year, I've not noticed a huge price hike.  I pay about £8 for him I think (he's 5).

Definitely 'per year' with lifetime cover is the way to go. Think of it that she could live for another 15 years or so, so *potentially* over that time you could spend 15 x £7000 on vets bills ie 105k but if it was per condition you might use the £7000 up on a condition over for example 3 years and then the next 12 years she wouldn't be able to claim for that condition.

Axa premiums seem to go up quite a lot for older cats but I've had very small rises for the last few years for the boys (they're now 4). I claimed for Riley last year, and not for Lu, but their premiums were still the same so they don't bump the premiums up if you make a claim. I think I pay about £90 a year each for them with Axa. Petplan are the gold standard in Pet Insurance but their premiums reflect that too!

Thanks guys! I've saved the quote so I'll check the details again to make sure we're getting what I think we are!
Thanks for the tip on excess Gill, I'll check it out!  :)

You are right Axa and Petplan the best but Axa despite increases gives better rates, especially for young cats.

Goooooooo for that quote it sounds good, check the excess though, they have 3 raqtes, 50, 75 and 100.

I recently did a quote and they put in 100 automatically and I changed it down and doesnt work out that more.

I insure mine with Petplan but they are initially more expensive than AXA.      However whereas PP put the premiums a little each year I'm sure I've heard complaints re AXA having huge increases.    And yes it is better to get per condition per year

Hi Everyone

Firstly, sorry I know you must all be fed up of this subject!

Am I right in thinking that the best insurance to get is Axa or Petplan because there insurance is per year not per condition?

The reason I ask is that we are with More Than and the renewal is £112 but from what I've read on here I seem to remember Axa / Petplan is better so I just got a quote from Axa for £69.00 for the year.  Does this sound right?  It's seems alot cheaper for better cover??  Or am I missing something vital?

Just for info our cat Maizie is 2 years 2 months old and is a normal moggy.

Thanks to anyone who can advise  :)
