Listless Cats

I think cats sleep an average of 16 hours a day and on top of that they spend a lot of time watching life go by and contemplating what to do next. Obviously you're keeping an eye on them giving they are acting out of character. If either goes off their food or shows any sign of ill health, then I would suggest a vet's visit (which I appreciate why you're trying to avoid at the mo).  How long have you had them by the way and what are their names?

One of my semi-ferals had been acting sluggish as well.

I realised he hadn't been wormed for a few months (the ones I can handle get wormed every two months but Chubby is a bit hit and miss as he's strictly hands-off) so I gave him a Panacur sachet in his dinner which does seem to have had the desired affect.

He's FIV+ and arthritic and I do fret for him when he's off colour, but simple flea and worm maintenance and a manicure is usually all that's needed.

Thank you for reassurance.  They both semi feral and are taking some befriending .. ESP the little fella so I don't want to subject them to vets if it's just me being paranoid.

So will keep an eye on them and monitor.

What's a normal amount of hours per day for them to sleep??

if they go off food then speak to the vet, otherwise I wouldn't worry too much as Gill says they can get lazy in hotter weather and mine sleep a lot when its raining too!

The weather can affect them quite a lot and especially change of temperature.

If they are using their trays normally, then they are probably OK but none of us are vets and if you are worried about them its best to speak to your vet.

They mainly eating normally ... They are mum n kitten and mum is being fussy but wolfs back the food she decides she likes ... Which changes on a daily basis!!!!

Never thought about the weather ...

Are they doing everything else as normal, eating using trays?

Has the weather changed?

they may just be settling down, mine sleep for hours!

Don't know if I'm worrying unnecessarily but I have two young (8 month and 18 month) cats who are usually very playful who over the last week seem to have no energy and are sleeping more than normal.  They aren't v interested in the usual playtime with me and don't seem to be chasing and playing with each other as they would normally do.

I am a newbie and paranoid cat owner who adopted these two when they turned up in my garden so don't know if worrying unnecessary or it's a sign they aren't well ... Aren't used to being handled so I don't want to traumatise them with vets if I'm just being OCD.

Any advice???
