Oh wow she is utterly amazing  Look at the beautiful coat she has!  She looks very happy and I'm so glad she has such a caring owner. That coat must take some grooming!
Thanks for sharing lorna - I was thinking about you and thinking we hadn't heard from you for a while :)

Yippie!!!

I have finally received pictures of Socks from her new mum Jill, she is now called Tabitha, I can't believe it's the same cat, she looks fantastic.

You can just make out resident cat Thomas under the bench on this last picture, apparently they are now on speaking terms!

Here's the e-mail from Jill
"Hi Lorna, how ru? Just thought I would email you some long awaited photos of Socks ( now Tabatha). As you can see she is beautiful ,most people who meet her are convinced she is a Maine Coon, and from reading about the breed on the Internet she certainly has many of their characteristics!  These photos were actually taken a few weeks ago and she is bigger and even fluffier now! I don't know if you or Jackie can fill in any gaps as to her parentage. Hope the kittens are ok, I expect they are re homed now! You are welcome to call round if you want to catch up with the giant fluff ball !! Xx"

I am soooo pleased to see how well she is doing I could burst :Luv2: All I need now is to get Jill on Purrs.................Socks knows how to login after all

I have had another talk to Jill tonight, she said the two cats getting together was an accident as her boy slipped in to the room behind her legs as she was going in, they have not been deliberately allowed together.
I have spoken to Jacky (CPL) and told her I feel out of my depth re giving advice as I really have no experience of introducing cats, she has offered to come with me and do a home visit to see if we can help, this won't be till after the weekend though.

I have done both extremely slow intros and intros after a couple of days and both have worked. Bourneville and Marble were kept apart for about a month (maybe a little longer) which did mean that Marble was kept in my spare room whilst I was at work and they weren't left together unsupervised until I was happy. They did have some spats which did look worse than they actually were. Soap was introduced after a few days of isolation in the spare room, as were the twins.

Has she been swapping scents? How about trying rescue remedy or feliway?

It may be that they will never be best friends but just tolerate each other.

I think you are right about being concerned about bringing Socks back home whilst you still have the kittens as she may not get on with them now. I suppose it is a option to try if it really doesn't work out at Jill's.

Just reread this and think that JIll is not doing the intros properly, she should not have met the other cat yet, let alone pinned it down.

This is not a good start and she needs to isolate the cats from each other and take time. loads of time, not days, they shouldnt be allowed to meet but the damage mmay already have been done.........sigh

Re: Now comes the hard bit. Socks still not settling.
« Reply #50 on: April 26, 2011, 20:28:19 PM »
We had a family re-union at the Vets this afternoon, when all 4 kittens and Socks gathered for their 2nd lot of jabs (and a cuddle off me).
Eenie and Minnie (now called Jessie and Woody) are doing really well, however Socks is still having trouble settling, this morning she attacked Jill's other cat and pinned him down, luckily Jill still has another week off work to try and settle them but she is worried about going back to work as if Socks still won't tolerate the other cat she would have to be locked in a room on her own all day which Jill is not happy about.
I was half tempted to suggest to Jill that Socks comes back to me and she tries a kitten instead, however this is probably a rubbish idea as having been away from the other kitten for well over a week, there's a chance that Socks might not accept that either, and if things didn't work out with the kitten at Jill's then I would have needlessly split up a bonded pair of kittens................any suggestions?
I'm thinking that I should probably just keep quiet and hope for the best?

I have had another chat to Jill this morning (I have been watching the 'Welcome to Newbies' section like a hawk lol and she hasn't joined yet :().
Socks has been there since Sunday and she has not yet settled in enough to attempt introductions with the resident cat. She is improving slowly and is very friendly towards Gill, but still jumpy and hissing and hiding under the bed at the slightest noise.
During the day when the other cat is outside she has been allowed the run of the house, but at night time she is confined to a bedroom. They see each other through the patio doors and Socks arches her back and spits at him, apparently she is also spitting at her own reflection in the mirror!
Meanwhile Eenie and Minnie are having a fine time at their new home in Congleton, they have settled in really well and are doing all the things that kittens do, eat, drink, poo, cause complete mayhem etc.........
Miney and Mo remain here for now also doing all of the above!
I really want to wear shorts as the weather is so lovely but I need trousers to cover up all the scratch marks on my legs

Hope Jill comes on here with Socks

Mary and Bonnie

Me too!
Have had a quick update from Jill this morning,
Immediately before I took her yesterday Jacky (CPL Co-ordinator) gave me a collar with a bell to put on Socks, this is for a tag that says the cat is chipped (she didn't have any of these left anyway!).
I have to say I was not entirely happy about this as we all know what Socks thinks about collars , Had I known it was needed I would have asked for a collar weeks ago and got her used to it gradually rather than have it be an un-necessary stressor on her rehoming day.
Anyway luckily Jill realised it was upsetting Socks and has removed it, she is now gradually getting used to her new surroundings (and Slaves), She was temporarily misplaced at one point but turned up under someones duvet  :naughty: Introductions to the resident kitty will take place very slowly to give socks a little time to get out of protective mummy mode.

Today Socks has gone to live with a lovely lady called Jill, I shall miss her very much but I know that letting her go was the right thing to do.
Hopefully Jill will be joining us on the forum soon, she also has an older neutered boy with thyroid problems so I'm sure she would appreciate our support during the settling in process.
I will be seeing Jill and Socks again in about 10 days time to take Socks for her second Jabs.

Here is a picture I took this morning before we took Eenie and Minnie to there new home, Miney and Mo are having a right boisterous play fighting session tonight now there's just the two of them - and I thought it would be a bit quieter with fewer kittens

Am so pleased for Socks and both of her kittens that have found homes.  Try to think of it as you gave them a helping hand when it was most needed until they found their forever home, I know it is hard but try to be happy that they have got forever homes rather than still being with you.

Hope all goes well and the other two kittens soon find loving forever homes also.  The hardest part of fostering is the letting go with the first fosters after that you know what to expect and can spend some special time with them to say goodbye and wish them well in their new home.
