Ive got 10 tins of sardines in tomatoe sauce that my neighbour gave me when his dog was pts , ive never given it to any of mine before as i thought the tomatoe sauce may give them the runs  i may try them with it and see if they like it or not  :Luv:

I checked the can - its a small tin and it says 0.5 grams of salt per 100 grams - so nearly 3/4 grams of salt is a lot for a cat I would have thought, especially as they can't sweat it out like us (as they only sweat from their pads)

So a once in a while treat is fine - say 1/2 can per mog - He will be after it all the time now if I know clapton  ;D

PS - when I opened the can I thought I wouldn't mind some on toast  :evillaugh: - I used to love pilchards on toast but haven't had it for years

Its something I always keep in the cupboard for cats that lose their appetite - works a treat, and also seems to 'kick start' the appetite for normal food again, though luckily I havent had to use it for a while. Glad it worked for Clapton.

If they just have it as a "special" treat then there shouldn't be a problem and as Mark has discovered when a cat has lost his/her appetite they are a great way of getting them eating again.
In ancient times cats were worshiped as gods; they have not forgotten this.

Good tip from who ever it was that gave it.  Winston never liked the tomatoe sauce but when he was off his food, sardines used to help him get his appetite back.

Sorry, I can'r remember who gave me this tip.

I have had a tin in the cupboard for a couple of months for emergency use. Clapton has barely eaten in the last 2 days. I really didn't think he would go near it and thought there was no chance of him eating tomato sauce but he is lapping it up! I find if I can get him to eat something, he will eat some regular food afterwards so fingers crossed. I know I can't give him a lot as it is fairly high in salt but its better than nothing at all.  ;D
