Sainsbury's website is not easy to navigate - gthe  title of the product does not contain the words 'cat' or 'food' just a diagram on the front! Sad to say the Basics tinned cat food is "40% meat and animal derivatives", I assume that means it is 60% plant matter (and jelly?). Arguably it is a darned sight better quality than the vast majority of dry foods sold by the supermarkets, as there is a fair amount of animal protein present.
:'( My beautiful Noah rescued 13/02/09, adopted 11/10/09, taken 11/02/11 :'( You deserved so much more.

Your right Mark, have just checked the 4 different boxes of Felix I have in the house, and the gravy ones are th only ones with cereal, I might risk trying Buster on a bit of Felix.
Please spay your cat

I will need to check but I think felix pouches are also OK except for the 'in gravy' ones.

What's wrong with the gravy ones?

I bought Buster some Sainsbury's own a while back cos it had Probiotics in, but dont recall it having that much meat in it. I stick to Classic for him now and he is solid on that, but my neighbour put some JWB out for one of the neighbours cats and within a day we were back to smelly diarrhea.
Please spay your cat

Yep, mine like Whiskas supermeat, and Simply - some of the Sheba varieties don't have cereals or veg protein, but you have to check the labels carefully.

I always think Whiskas supermeat is a good bet if they will eat it as it has no cereal. OK, it may only have a min 4% of named flavour but all the rest of it is meat or meat by-products - which are perfectly nutritious; they have to be better than soya etc. Whiskas Simply is the same. I will need to check but I think felix pouches are also OK except for the 'in gravy' ones.

it says it has derivative of vegetable origin and cereals in it, but I was under the impression most cat foods do, I was just pleasantly surprised at the meat content for something I had assumed would be absolute rubbish! lol.
I can't give it to Benji because of his dodgy tummy and the cereals in it, but it might be a good alternative for cats who don't have a dodgy tum due to the high meat content?

A lot do, but not all, I always avoid anything with cereals and the dreaded 'vegetable orign' as far as poss. Mine can't have cereals either, particularly the cereals in wet food. Its strange that the meat content is so high - and yet they feel the need to bulk it out with cereals - crazy!

Has it got cereals or soya in it? (usually says vegetable protein extracts or something like that)

Yup,it's one of the only supermarket brands that Daisy will eat! Sadly the nearest Sainsbury's to me is 20 miles away & their delivery service does not cover my area,so financially,it makes more sense to buy more expensive stuff closer to home..

I was in sainsburys getting some cat food for my mums cats and michael pointed out the cheapy cheapy sainsburys basics and I pulled a face (as you do) and said it was probably not any good, but, low and behold it is 40% meat content! it was £2.50 for 6 tins, but thought I would let people know, I can post the ingredients list if anyone wants it, but was surprised that the sainsburys basics range seems to be better than the likes of whiskas etc.
