Perhaps the fur being softer is down to how much she is grooming and the quality of her saliva? Both could conceivably be affected by her physical or mental wellbeing.

The rx66 is down and hopefully working its magic...it smells really nice for a cleaning product!!

No more naughty wee's and Marble has been down with us all more and her fur is still feeling really soft.

The VN called me today, she has sent me a comprehensive questionnaire to fill out and she also wants me to draw a floor plan with position of litter trays etc detailed on it.

She will then take everything into consideration and put an action plan together.

Gonna try and get a wee sample over night so I can take it for testing in the morning just to rule out cystitis.

Thanks Helen, that's much clearer now! I guess cos it was already in spray format I assumed it was diluted. Did you use big bin liners to cover the suitcase? I might have to cut one up and tape it down to the carpet. I'm getting the vax tomorrow so will start tomorrow, cover it over night then vax it all out on Monday.

I covered the suitcase in a bin liner, when Lu had his little vomit/wee/diaorrhea episode the other day I just put a carrier bag over it with something on top to weigh it down. It says to leave for 1-3 hours but not sure if leaving overnight would cause any issues?

Rosella the vet said that they use this stuff for nervous cats coming in to the vets and it works within 90 mins!! Its hard to tell if its the feliway or this but Marble has definitely improved already. This may sound weird but the texture of her coat has also changed. She is semi long haired with quite a thick undercoat type thing and her fur has been feeling quite coarse for a long time now. Last night I was stroking her and she just felt sooooo soft. I'm thinking it may be because she is feeling more relaxed???

Anyway, ingredients for this gel are:

L-Tryptophan
L-Theanine
Thiamine
Nicotinamide
Vitamin B6

And its tasty salmon flavour (apparently lol)

Although I'm a bit confused...I got the 500ml spray bottle but the instructions say about diluting it and spraying it. Is the spray not already diluted?? Am I being stupid lol!?!

It took me a while to figure it out too!

You actually 'clean' the area first with diluted spray, I had a mini spray bottle from Boots so diluted some in there but it doesn't need to be in spray form so you could just dilute a bit in a bowl. You don't need much, I made way too much diluted stuff first time.

Anyway, once you've cleaned with the diluted stuff you spray the full strength stuff on until it's saturated and then cover with plastic to prevent drying.

..... but recommended another product which she knows works and has been more effective than zylkene (sp).  Its Nutriscience Kalm Aid Cat Gel so I got some whilst I was there and will try to find it online.

My order of 100 Zylkene arrived this am  .  Not heard of Kalm Aid and will be very interested to hear what you think of it Steff.....

Didn't manage a sample unfortunately but will be taking one in next week. Still went to see the lovely cat vet and she was great.

She took down the full story from me, all the ins and outs with Marbles behaviour. She then checked her all over paying special attention to her bladder etc. She said that without testing a sample so couldn't rule out cystitis 100% but everything felt fine and with all the info I gave her it was definitely leaning towards a behavioural problem which is what I suspected but wanted to rule out anything else. She said we could go even further and have a scan done but she didn't feel it necessary. So a sample will be dropped in next week.

We had a further chat and she was impressed with my knowledge and it was obvious I wasn't just an average Joe off the street. I told her about Purrs and she thought it was great. She agreed about the whole Esco/Marble relationship and because she feels safe with Esco she feels safe to wee where his scent is.

She was pleased I already had Feliway, she hadn't heard of Serene Um but looked it up while I was there and sees no problem with me using it but reccommended another product which she knows works and has been more effective than zylkene (sp). She also reccommended another litter tray for inside. The two out and one in was working previous but will get another tomorrow (they are all covered).

She has also put me in touch with one of their vet nurses who is cat mad and although not qualified in animal behaviour should be able to help us. She wants me to keep in touch (she loves Marble) and said if needs be she can then put me on to one of their VN's qualified in animal behaviour and last resort would be the feline specialist animal behaviourist (but hopefull we won't need that stage).

I'm feeling slightly happier and the visit has put my mind at ease.

RX66 has still not been delivered but going to the carpet shop tomorrow and getting the vax on Sunday although I'm starting to get used to eau du cat wee lol!!

I think I will keep the appointment Trigger (it was the vets that said I could cancel), I will just make sure its ok to bring a sample in separately which I'm sure it will be.

I've let her out this evening and she seems fine. She has been using the tray in the spare room and will go back in there tonight.

The feliway is on 24/7 and I bought some Serene Um drops tonight which I gave to both Soap and Marble and will continue to do.  Also bought some RX66 last night from your link Helen so thanks.

I'm looking forward to trying to get the sample tomorrow...mmmmm more cat wee lol!!!

Personally, I'd still keep the vet's appointment even if you haven't got a wee sample.  The vet will probably have a good feel around her tummy which can help the process in diagnosing if it's a health problem. If the vet puts pressure on her bladder, it might produce a fresh sample on the table (this happens when my cat is examined). The vet will also be able to assess what's in her bladder at the time.  There's nothing stopping you taking a sample in in a day or so, but at least your cat has been seen.  Good luck and let us know how you get on with the sample.

Marble is back in the spare room cos I'm sure she wee'd again (on the stairs) when she was let out. Will be getting the testing kit from the vet tomorrow and will set it up Thursday lunchtime in the hope that she does a wee before the 5:10 appointment at the vets...if not I can cancel.

Borrowing my mums Vax in the hope that it might help the carpet a little...I can just constantly smell cat wee now...yuck :-S

Many years ago an ex-boyfriend's b1tch took to peeing and pooping on our bed: it started immediately after she had her first litter which stressed her out immensely. I never understood why it was our bed as she got on well with both of us. Recently I read something about the bed smelling most of the owners, so the culprit is marking their territory or mixing their scent with yours. Can't see why it is any different for Marble to mark Esco's bed if she gets on well with him? Maybe she is associating the current changes at home with the changes that took place when Soap arrived?

I've picked up the special litter sampling kit (bag of crystals, pippette and sample tube) and used that with Millie. 

Can be very hit and miss as it needs to be brought to vet as fresh as poss; within an hour is best (refrigerated meanwhile) but it's been a couple of hours with Freddie as he seems to like to pee a few hours before vet opens  Never had a cat pee at vet. 

I've also caught some of Fred's in a jug and just poured it into sample collecting tube as he has a horror of trays

On two out of four recent visits to the vets re: cystitis, after the vet has had a good feel around my cat's tummy, she's weed over their table providing a fresh sample! I think the pressure of feeling around her stomach and kidneys caused this, so if you are lucky your cat will produce a fresh sample in front of the vet. The vet can insert a needle into your cat's bladder and extract some urine. This doesn't sound nice, but it will provide a very fresh, sterile sample to test.  I think you can buy special litter to get a sample of wee, but I personally think it's better to have a fresh clean one for analysis.

I let her out of the spare room but I think she has wee'd on the stairs more so back up to the spare room. I'm trying not to worry about the carpet now cos hopefully I can get a replacement bit fitted for the turn and bottom two steps as its all in one piece.

Tips for catching wee would be great though please peeps...oh the joys!!

I hesitate to offer any advice coz we are having awful probs with Freddie; recent kitten addition has made his peeing stuff even worse.  Zylkene hasn't helped but I think it may have helped Millie last year after she started peeing following her night spent on the roof  .

I have brought pee samples in to vets for testing and cost less than a fiver for the test so was worth it to rule other stuff out.  It does sound stress related though. 

I soooo understand how debilitating it is Steff    I don't know what I'd do without Urine Off.  It really helps get rid of the smell at least......

I think keeping her in the spare room is a good idea to try and get her used to using a tray again.  I am hoping Freddie's forthcoming week in a cattery might help him back on track but who knows?

I think it would also be a good idea to get the vet to check Marble over, just to eliminate anything medical.  If ever you do see blood in the wee or the puddles get smaller, then Marble would need to be seen by the vet ASAP.  If the vet rules out anything medical, it might be worth trying Zylkene(Zyklene) which I've read can help wonders with stress (which it would be as the weeing is in your other pets comfort areas).  You can buy it online in trial packs.

Maybe she's trying to frame Soap! 

Have you tried Feliway spray? You could spray it directly on to Esco's bedding and it's effective straightaway - rather than having to wait for the plug-in to work.

I would take her to the vets regardless (or get a urine sample to them), just because you can't see blood doens't mean there isn't any, I couldnt see it in Busters, but there were microscopic traces. He was also still using te tray as well as weeing on certain things.

She has always been the "funny" one, a bit nervous and skittish, quiet and a bit of a loaner which is why I was really careful with Soap being introduced (I never planned on getting Soap, she was being badly treated so I kinda rescued her - from her previous owners pantry cupboard). I am insured or could even stretch to an animal behavourist personally. I'm hoping with a bit of time on her own in the spare room she might chill out and then maybe I can start intergrating her again slowly. Its just weird cos they were all ok...no major incidents or upsets.

If the weeing everywhere at this frequency continues I will take her to the vets just to double check all is ok and she what they say.

I'm sure I saw SereneUm drops mentioned somewhere on here...maybe I will try those as well as the Feliway. Has anyone had good results?

I've cleaned the stair carpet (and the underlay and the wood underneath) as best I can for now and will see what its like when it dries...I'm hoping the smell of dog may eventually overpower it in the end!!

I really hope you manage to get to the bottom of it, it must be horrible to a) think that she's upset about something and b) have to deal with the mess/smell continually If she's insured or you could stretch to it you could always consider asking your vet to refer you to an animal behaviourist

I forgot to add that I also caught her lining up ready to wee on the clean dogs bed on Sunday morning. I don't think it is spraying because of the amount and because of the positions I've caught her in...although I don't know how female cats spray. The amount is always quite a lot so I have always just assumed spraying.

I've just managed to get the carpet up to clean underneath and I'm using washing detergent.

Is keeping her separate in the spare room with her tray the best thing to do for now?

are you certain she is weeing, and not spraying?

if she is spraying on stuff with the dog's scent, then that is almost certainly a territorial thing, and despite their seeming to get on, would indicate she does feel threatened by his presence

Soap's arrival may have been a catalyst, which pushed Marble over the edge, so her feelings about Esco came to the surface - cats can hide stress behind a veneer of being chilled out

It has been going on for quite a while now but its been pretty sporadic and I'd always blame something else like the trays not being quite clean enough for her or Esco being out in the garden all morning so she wouldn't go out to the pen to use the tray but now it seems like she is just doing it for fun (obviously I know she is not really).

Its hard to tell that its her everytime but I've caught her in the act more than once so I think it definitely is her.

Esco (the dog) was introduced to the house last year and although she was a little unsettled initially she never wee'd anywhere and they very quickly got on well together. Soap (the kitten) joined us in January this year and they have never been best friends but Marble has grown to tolerate Soap. The weeing only really started when Soap joined us but it was fairly in frequent and she usually wee'd on Esco's bed which I could luckily just put in the washing machine and clean the area underneath with scent removing disinfectant.

I bought a feliway plug in a little while ago from Zooplus and thought it was helping a bit but unbeknown to me the 2 into 3 adapter was faulty and it hasn't been working. I realised this weekend after I checked because of the incidents that happened over the weekend...as follows:

Friday - Marble wees on Escos bed
Saturday - because Esco's bed was drying Marble wees on Esco's chair cushions and throw that had fallen on the floor.

Everything cleaned up and extra tray put in spare room in case she has decided she doesn't want to go in the pen. Come home 2nite and am sure I can smell fresh cat wee...

Monday - Marble wees on the bottom step of the stairs where Esco sleeps.
