I did wonder if it would be too much of a risk to be honest, ohh well, I shall just have to give him extra cuddles when I clean his pod out and hope he finds a home, I really feel for this chap, to look at him you would think he was 16, he is thin and moves so slowly and carefully and with his calici and what not, but he is only 3 years old!
thanks for your opinions though guys! :) Benji is my priority and I would only get another cat if it would not put Benji at risk.

I'll be honest that I don't know enough about Calici to know about transferrence rates etc, but as Julie has already said, I would be nervous about putting an FIV cat at risk where their immune system is compromised to whatever degree

I've known cats with Calicivirus (FCV) who live with FCVneg cats and the FCVneg cats haven't always picked up the virus. Having said that, FIV is a condition known to compromise immunity across the board. I would say there's a high risk of FCV being transmitted to an FIV+ cat. So I would start from the viewpoint of 'Can an FIV cat cope with FCV as well?'

I have to say I wouldn't personally take the risk.  :shy:

Mixing Calici and FIV?

Hi,
I volunteer at the local cattery for a few hours a week and I have fallen for a lovely gentleman called Timber, today he was really down and depressed and it really broke my heart and made me cry (I am a sap) which made me seriously think about maybe offering him a home with Benji, but he has the Calici virus, he has had most, if not all his teeth removed, but would he pose a health risk to Benji, as Benji is FIV+ I would have to discuss this all with my fiance, but I thought before I even go that far I would get some opinions, also is there a good website where I could read about Calici?
thanks for any help,
Jen and Benji :)

p.s. if this is in the wrong section, please feel free to move it, I was not sure where to put it!
