Thanks all, I'll try him on some cat milk and salmon tomorrow. He's more a meat eater than a fish eater but that's because I don't eat much fish so he never gets a chance to 'beg' any from me. He does like prawns so I'll get some prawns too.

We just had a little cuddle and he was sleeping on my foot which was at a funny angle on the settee. I tried to move my foot and he jumped down and then went to cuddle up to Lu (who was snoozing on the fleece that I tried to wrap Riley in earlier to give him a tablet

) Riley flopped himself against Lu and Lu kept turning his head round and hissing at him still

Riley was unperturbed and just snuggled his head into Lu's tummy

I agree about the cat milk it was the only thing that Leo would have other than drinking large amounts of water. I swear it also kept Nigel going during the last few months of his life. The vet also told us to keep him on a renal diet but did say anything is better than nothing. Hope hes back to normal soon thinking of you

Helen having been through this with Bailey last year and the vets being so negative and running up a nice 3 figure sum as to what was wrong with him - armed with cat milk and a feeding bottle I duly fed him this way for nearly 4 days at the vets whilst he was on a drip to

My strategy was well I will try anything and Bailey is a milk fiend so I bought in every type of cat food and human stuff to and thought it doesn't matter what he eats as long as he eats and drinks something - 12 months on he is now our Alpha male and a ginger hooligan

We can only cross all the clan cats paws and will chuck in the extra 8 from the dogs for your boy, his brother and you

No advice, but I know how you feel, although you don't expect it with a young cat

I agree anything is better than nothing. I have been struggling to get Clapton to eat any renal food and the vet said the wrong food is better than no food.

Have you tried tinned salmon? - not sure if he is a fishy cat or not. I hope he picks up soon

What started his illness?

No idea, I went to work at 10pm on Weds 1st and he was completely normal, came home at 7am on Thurs 2nd and couldn't find him anywhere despite calling and calling for him. He was under the bed just laying there so took him straight to the vets at 9am.

The vet I spoke to on Sat said he felt that the not eating at the vets could be mostly to do with him being stressed at being there and sure enough within 10 mins of being home he was tucking into chicken. Obviously the meds (Zantac injection and Dexadreson) have worn off and now he's stopped eating again. He said to bring him back Monday if he still wasn't right and they would do some blood tests.

The vet said not to try him on the liquid Zantac as he's impossible to medicate (too strong, struggles and gets stressed) so I tried to give him a 1/6 of the tablet version I have with no joy. Now he feels poorly and frightened of me

I racked my brains for what I had in to tempt him with and remembered a trip to Home Bargains a few months ago where a tin of John West stewing steak had found it's way into my basket (those who have been to HB will know what I mean, you buy things you'll never need/eat because they are ridiculously cheap!). I washed the gravy off as it contained other bits and bobs and he's just eaten some! I know it's not ideal on a sensitive tum but he had to eat something so fingers crossed he can keep it down.

He's not good

The only thing he ate was the chicken in the few hours after he got home from the vets, he has drunk a little since then but is refusing chicken and the RC sensitivity stuff. Lucas is still hissing at him too

Definitely back to the vets tomorrow morning.

Hope he is feeling better - maybe try him on some white fish like Coley? I have had very few cats refuse RC Sensitivity though.

If you can make sure Lucas doesn't eat it all I would be leaving food down for him. He could just be feeling poorly and sorry for himself and sensing your anxiety so won't eat whilst he is stressed.

Fingers crossed he will be more like himself tomorrow.

If he hqasnt eaten for a time it will take time for him to be able to eat regularily again.............I would be tempted to leave some cat food down for him so he can help himself when he fancies.

Try rubbing a cloth over Lucas and then rub over Riley, may help with the vet smell.

When Leo got home from the vets Ozzie hissed at him and Larry sniffed him and frantically ran at the cat flap trying to get out. I figured it must have brought back bad memories of going to the vet and losing his man hood

Biscuit used to have the RC sensitivity pouches, he quite liked them but wasn't keen on the dry, so I put him on Hills I/d dry which went down well (and continues to do so with the other two)

I'm sure he'll love the chicken though (and bet Lucas is pretty happy with it too, I bet you're sharing

)

Poor Riley. I don't blame him for hissing. Jaffa is like that at the vets or cattery. when he had his dental at the vets a few years ago they said he hid under a blanket after the op. I'm sure he will do better now that he is home in familiar surroundings

He's home!

He still hasn't eaten but the vets thought it might be as much to do with the stress of being there so thought it best that he comes home and we see how he goes. He's just had a wee so I'm going to let him settle back in for half an hour then try him on some chicken.

Just rang and they said he is a bit better this morning, he has stopped hissing quite as much (she called it kennel guarding) and allowed them a little stroke. The nurse said he licked a teeny bit of the sensitivity stuff off her finger and that he seemed quite interested in the biscuits but didn't eat any.

The vet is going to examine him again and then I have to ring back at 11:30 to see whether he has to stay in. I did ask about the Hills AD, she said she she thought it was a bit rich for him considering he hadn't eaten in 48 hours but that she would speak to the vet.

They haven't done blood tests yet, when I left him yesterday morning they said they would have him on the drip for 24 hours and if he hadn't improved then do some tests. 24 hours is up now so I guess they will do blood tests if the vet thinks he's not well enough to come home.

I suspect being at the vets is not helping him as was seperating him from Lucas.

I know Kocka was suddenly taken ill and then spent a week at the vets in isolation cos they were scared she had FIP or somethin g terrible...........she didnt and I visitred her every evening and in the end I said I was taking her home and they said it may have been a blood infection but never found out what was wrong with her.

I agree about the ad diet and it would always be the first thing I would try with a very sick cat but Kocka would only eat it off my finger but it was good to add bits of mashed tablet in.

I do hope he is improving and am afraid when Franta was in this situation about 18 months ago, I could hear him howling when I walked into the vets and the vet said he had trashed his cage............he just wanted company and to come home. Gradually he started eating again and xrays showed he had only one good kidney, the other was shrivelled and useless but Bristol said it was best to leave things as they were.............it may have been like that for many years.
