I bought a hooded tray in PAH for willow. It has a catflap at the front and vents at the side with charcoal filters - it was about £18.00. It really does help with the smell (I know I shouldn't have a tray in a B&B kitchen but sure you cat people undestand, where needs must  ;D ) Also the bouchard "Odour zapper" Juicy apple & pear. Its £1.49 in wilkinsons (£2.99 in PAH) and has a trigger spray so no butane. It has "over 40 natural odour neutralising ingredients" and lasts for ages.

Also, I try to bag & bin ASAP after missile has been launched - although when you can feel the warmth through the bag

omg thats an awful feeling isnt it when u feel the pooh still warm through the bag

i will try that air freshner u mentioned mark

Really smelly poos are a thing of the past in my house now since feeding a raw food diet - thank goodness!  ;D - obviously they still smell - thats normal, but its brief and doesnt linger.

A good way to remove the smell is to strike a match or two and let them burn almost down to the end (mind yer fingers!) blow it out and waft near to the tray and around the room, and the smell is gone - honestly - it really works  ;D

I'd maybe think about changing their food though, some foods high in cereals and grains can make the poo more smelly.

I know some people used to keep a box of matches in the bathroom - they have to be Swan vestas type though

I've no idea if this works but a Royal Canin rep told me that they make a variety of food for indoor cats. Apparently it is formulated to help prevent smelly poo.

Is there any way the tray(s) could go outside? Mine have a tray in a kennel on the other side of the cat flap, so they don't have to get wet to use it! It has reduced the smell in the house and the dust too. Also that catsan litter stuff seems good - I've got a foster cat in the spare room at the minute, and the rescue sent some of that litter, and I can hardly smell the tray at all

cc please check that the Dettol air freshener doesn't contain phenols, as these are VERY toxic to cats and found in Dettol

You are quite rght about phenol, it is absolutly toxic for cats.

Another old trick is to strike a couple of matches (not the safety kind).

To get rid of the smell of particularly smelly poos, I use incense. By the time it's burned down, the smell has gone. Another old trick is to strike a couple of matches (not the safety kind).

It might be wise to change their diet. Sam and Pol's poos don't smell too bad. They eat Whiskas chicken supermeat. Try various different cat foods until you find one which comes out more pleasantly!
Cats were once gods; they have never forgotten this, nor have the people they own.

A change in diet can also improve the smell a lot. What do you feed them? Whiskas in gravy had bad effects on the cat i had a child.

We use Neutradol because it seems to be the most effective at breaking down the bad smells. I do, however, remove poos immediately after they've been done - if I'm alerted by madam(my oldest mog) or the smell, that is!

Try oust air freshener.  I find that very good.  I use the 'clean scent' one and find it works well.  It doesn't just cover up the smell but really does seem to get rid of it.  If one of mine does a poo when I'm sitting near the litter tray or I have visitors due I just spray some of that around the tray and it does the job.  But then again, mine dont' do overly smelly poos.  If it's really bad then maybe changing the food and/or litter may help.  I use a covered litter tray in the corner of the lounge and unless they've just done a poo I can't smell anything.
