Thanks everyone

It was very peaceful. They gave us all the time we wanted to say goodbye before and afterwards. Craig explained again to OH that the time was right to avoid any suffering. What made it harder is he was purring for us - something he would never do at the vets normally  :( - He was even nuzzling us. At one point, he even sat up. I think he used up the last of his strength doing that, as he then turned away and buried his face in the towel. Craig explained to OH that it wouldn't frighten Clapton and that he really would just go to sleep but it would go one step further. Dennis kneeled down and cuddled & stroked him while Craig syringed the fluid into Clapton's IV tube. He was gone in seconds  :( - They allowed us to stay with him for as long as we wanted and leave by the back door.

He really had the lovliest temperament of any cat I have ever know - despite having so many health issues. We are going to miss our boy so much  :'(

Sorry to say that I am just off to pick up Dennis from the station so we can go to say goodbye to our lovely boy  :'(

I spoke to Craig, the vet in my break at college. He was doing an op but wanted to speak to me - I knew then it was bad news  :( - he said Clapton is severely anaemic (he wasn't when bloods were done last) - he gave him a bag of haemoglobin but it didn't help - apart from that, all his other numbers are off the scale and the nausea hasn't improved. He said it wouldn't be fair to keep him going as he will only get worse. All we can do is spare him some suffering  :(

I feel sorry for Dennis having to sit on the train. I lost it at college and one of the girls gave me a cuddle. She went to tell the lecturer that I wouldn't be back today. I didn't hear her as I was leaving OH a message, but she came out of the lecture and called down to me that she understood  :shy:

Anyway, not looking forward to this but we have no choice for Clapton's sake.

Ironically, the next slide had I gone back was pica and other behaviours.

Force feeding isn't going to happen though. I think quality of life is important and to me, it doesn't include fear and stress. His wellbeing is the only thing that matters. I still have hope and even ordered him a large flectabed today.

So glad you are being positive Mark.  Just want you to know you, OH and of course Clapton are very much in my thoughts day by day
