Hello all
Good news and bad today regarding little Teoh
It was a bit of a palava today tbh, the receptionist claimed that she had no idea when the results would be back as (and I quote) we don't usually send brain scans away for second opinions so this is all a bit new to me!
I asked her if I could telephone the other laboratory myself, I was on hold for an age and then she told me that our vet would chase it up for Jules and I today
The vet has 'just' telephoned me at home at this late hour to say that Teoh's second opinion on his brain scan is clear of tumors and has come back 'normal'
It was sent for a second opinion to an expert at the laboratory as there were 'increased signals/activity in his brain and spine'
The diagnosis is that Teoh has not had a head injury as first thought. He also does not have a brain or spinal tumor. Our vet originally said that although the MRI scan did not look like an 'obvious' mass/tumor, it was increased activity and she wanted to be sure that there was no tumor there and find out why there were such increased activity/signals when MRI scan's usually show nothing at all out of the ordinary
The expert at the lab told our vet that she is 95% certain that Teoh is suffering from epilepsy caused by electrical activity in his brain hence the increased electrical signals seen on his scan
Teoh's level of electrical activity in his brain is very high
Our vet confessed that she did not think that it would be epilepsy as it is very rare in cats
Jules thought this pretty much all the time, perhaps he should be a vet!
So, we have to 'monitor' Teoh now, he may not have a fit again, but the expert suggested to our vet that if he has another seizure within the 2 months of the last one that he should be given medication to control his seizures
The medicine does has side effects she said, so it may be that we have to monitor him for a while and find out the frequency of any future fits to be able to get his dosage correct before he starts any medication
So, very good news that our boy does not have a brain tumor and we will have him for a nice long life
But, not so good is that we now know that he is epileptic and could possibly suffer with that all his life
There is a chance that he may never have another fit, so fingers crossed and thank you all for being there
Sorry to ramble on
Debs xx
