Shame that you have missed out, but I am sure there will be another match for you - don't think i would be waiting 3 days to get there though (although most rescues do shut one day a week, so that could slow things down). With regards to the posters, i dont think 7 days is nearly long enough - what about people who go away for a fortnight, the cat could go missing the day after, so they wouldn't be able to see the poster in time? I know the person who I used to foster for, one of her cats left home everytime she went on hol, and came back the day after she did, even when her partner stayed at home!!

Hope his owners look after him properly, it does seem a very relaxed attitude to pop down after 3 days - I'd have raced there and camped outside until they were open if that was one of my boys.

Good news/Bad news depending on how you look at it. After me phoning them again a couple of times today "George" was reclaimed by his owners who had seen one of the posters. Seems odd that it took them THREE F***ING days to drag their lazy arse across town when I've been carrying a cat carrier in the boot of my car waiting to take him home for the last week, ordered a new LoCATor collar from the USA and had an ID tag made for him.

That said, looking at the bigger picture, even if these people took a risk and proclaimed to be his real owners then hopefully his new owners will care enough to look after him properly. Lets face the ugly truth - there are tonnes of cats in shelters, if someone just wanted a cat then all they would have to do is adopt one.

On a more positive note, its just an idea, BUT for long term prisoners that clearly do not have a home and are not cute little kittens, would it be worth putting "Found Posters" up near schools and playgrounds with a time bounded condition i.e. will be up for adoption in 7 days if not reclaimed? I only put 30 posters up for George and he was "reclaimed" in 14 days.

Whilst some may question the fundimental ethics of this argument, others may view this as a more pragmatic solution to a genuine problem. If I were a cat and faced with long term incarceration versus being put down, I personally would opt for the easy way out.

...anyway, thoughts on a postcard please

Boys & Girls!!!!

a couple of weeks ago I found a little fella that was in need of some TLC and a home. My plan was to reunite him with his owners or find him an alternative home - hence the reason for posters and Internet "found a cat" posts . If someone has lost their cat and has now found him then great. Job done. If Gizmo ever showed up under similar circumstances then I would most certainly want the opportunity to reclaim her 2 weeks or even several years later. That said I am a bit pissed that it takes them 2-3 days to get over and ID him. May be they are out of the country???

As far as the Vet bill is concerned, when I told the RSPCA I was going to adopt via the Home instead of the RSPCA the lady at the RSPCA told me she did not want any money from me as it was all sorted by some agreement between the two organisations. Realising that the RSPCA survive on donations and appreciating the amount of work they did for him I just donated a sum of cash equivalent to his Vet bill. That way I could put in what he took out. Nobody is trying to scam me.

Rest assured that either way the litlle guy is going to be fine

mmmmmmm I agree with Rosella on this one. Don't let the grass grow under your feet on this one Andy. Keep on hounding the RSPCA ... they may be just testing you to see how serious you are about giving George a home. Keep on phoning up and asking about him and make sure they know you really want him and can offer him the best possible home.

Am I right in thinking you paid his vet bill before the homecheck? Just interested how that came about. You've prob said and I've missed it in which case apologies.

I've never had anyone ask to see vac cards of existing cats when rehoming altho perhaps they should

Certainly RSPCA did not ask to see anything when Freddie came to live with us (after I hounded them for a home check day in day out

)

Not quite. Got the home visit done on Saturday. He was still being treated on Monday. He got the green light yesterday but then I was told that I needed to bring vacination cards for our 2 cats. Today someone has phoned in and said that it might be thier cat! At some point this week, when they can drag thier lazy arse down there, they will visit to ID him. I really can't see why they can't drop everything and get on with it - I would.

I do homechecks for varius doggie rescues and they got refs from my vets and bit my hand off for checks - I also do research if its not a JRT or Border Collie my mob but have Alsations, Labradors, Pointers and a great dane next door so do speak to their owners to!

i would check with the RSPCA if they would accept a different home check first - we wont accept another rescues homecheck, but some will.

I damn well hope so! I only met the little guy last Friday afternoon for an hour. I paid his Vet bill today and it significantly exceeds what I normally spend on XMas+Birthday presents for my wife & we've been together for 9 years. She cooks, cleans, does accounts and everything

Yeah, the wife eventually buckled yesterday

He will be transferred tomorrow to the rehoming place next door to the RSPCA. At that point he is ready to roll. That said, the rehoming people want to do a home check, part of their process, which will take 4-5 days to sort out. In the meantime I'll ask if there are any "Volunteers" on Purrs that could do a home check in order to expedite the process and bust him out

I'd just like to echo what everyone else has said. Sam is right about them happily co-existing. As long as they all tolerate each other and have their own space they will be happy.

Bourneville gets on with Soap and Marble, Soap like Marble but Marble is not too keen on Soap but they all co-exist happily.

Feliway has helped settle my 3 more and it may be worth getting before George joins you just as a little help in case.

I think you may have already made up your mind

Even if all 3 don't end up as best mates that doesn't mean they can't all co-exist happily. I have 4 cats and none of them sleep together or particulary interacts with the others but they all live happily together with no fighting or arguing. Zephyr (my boy) is the dominant one ... he is in charge and he decides what goes. When I adopted Oliver (the sofest most laid back male I have ever met) Zephyr made it perfectly clear he was in charge and given the chance will happily assert himself over Oliver (this involves standing about two inches from him and yowling in his face

). As Oliver is very submissive he simply lies down and tries to make himself small! Zephyr then gets bored and walks off.

As long as George doesn't come and upset Judo by trying to take over as the domiant force I can't really see any problems. As long as all parties have their own space and are able to get away from each other it'll be fine.

Go on give this boy a second chance in life ...he has obviously touched your heart.

the more dominant of mine is a terror outside with the neighbouring cats and was a trial to intergrate with my first cat (who is a complete pushover) but i foster now and although shes not delighted and is making sure everyone knows that, shes happy to sleep a few feet from newest, happy to eat and accept fusses and tbh shed accept him into her house once shed made sure he knew his place so i think the rules might be different for outside cats and approved cats that they first come across at home, smelling suspiciously like their human

so i vote that option A is much more likely. As mark says you could ask to trial him

or if it really really didnt work George would be in no worse a place than he now and your two would soon forget

I remember reading all your threads when you rescued Clousseau (sp) and you did a fantastic job with her as I am sure you would if George was lucky enough to be adopted by you x

As you know integration is not always easy but with time and patience is almost always possible.

I think you never can tell until the cats are together. Kylie & Willow were mortal enemies for 5 years. Others can get along from day one

Hi Kids,

I found a cat last Friday, Ref 1, and he is adorable. Currently stuck in aπ cage with the RSPCA.
I already have two cats, Ref 2, they have settled quickly, are very happy, love each other and are thick as thieves. Life is a peach for them.

I know no one can guarantee to be correct, I'm just after gut feelings, opinions, questions etc based on your previous experience.

The exam question is, If I were to adopt "George", is it most likely that
a. These 3 cats will get on and be happy with life or...
b. Am I unwittingly about to initiate World War 3 likely to result in all 3 being unhappy"?

The facts,
1. All 3 are neutered.
2. All In/Out doors cats.
3. George, boy, is the friendliest cat on the planet with resect to humans. I don't know how he gets on with other cats. I could ask RSPCA?. Age 4-5.
4. Judo, boy, age 2, very territorial. Hates 2 black cats and regularly fights with them. One is a big alpha male type, bold as brass, hardy etc. This does not deter Judo and it seems that Judo had succeeded in the fight for land! The other black cat is a wuss. That said, Judo gets on well with another Ginger moggy who is also a big wus, is often spotted in our house scoffing our cats food or sleeping under our bed with our two

5. Clouseau, age 2, very submissive towards any other cats. Mega distrust with any human. When we get home she gets out of bed and seeks refuge outside

6. My wife and I live live in a 2 bedroom house in a nice cat friendly suburban neighbourhood. No kids. We are both out of their way during the day.

This is an open book test so please ask questions!
