Quick update - I picked the girls up today and they are now safely in my room with me, both spark out on the windowsill at the moment! They were very jittery when we first got here and made a litle den to hide in behind my suitcase but they seem much better now and more relaxed. Also discovered they absolutely love being brushed today!

i would definitely take them with you, and at least you have a second plan if there is major issues - I think it would be very hard on your friend to look after them for x time and then give them back
Please spay your cat

sorry to hear about your split hun but I sort of guess from things you've said in the past it's been coming for a while - I'd take the cats home too as  well, you'll find a way

Sorry you've split up with your boyfriend

Bryony plug in the Feliway, get some Zylkene and take them home to your parents

I agree with this advice.  If your parents have a large house, it should be possible to keep them fairly separate if they didnt' get on at all.

I definitely think they will be better with you , even with Casper spicing up the mix. It will be very unsettling to move house and have new 'owners', even if it is only temporary the girls won't know that and will miss you loads.

I'd imagine it's a pretty tough time for you right now too so having your girls will help you too

This is what I was going to write too.

  to you at the moment

Thanks everyone, that's pretty much what I was thinking but I wasn't sure if it was me being selfish about wanting them near me.

The breakup itself has been really easy as it had been over really for a while, but the moving out stress is starting to get to me a bit. I've been living at a friends for a last few days (the cats are still at the flat as the moment as he begged me not to take them yet and I thought it was better for them to stay in familiar surroundings for now). I've been going back to check on them most lunch times and he's been looking after them so I'm not too worried, but want them with me as I miss them!

I agree with the others, I think it will be less upsetting for them in a new house if you are with them

Sorry to hear your news hun, hope you're OK

I would say take them with you to your folks house as well, as long as you are there with them I think the upheaval will be OK, if they're taken somewhere else entirely without you, then I think that would cause greater upset to them to be honest

Bryony plug in the Feliway, get some Zylkene and take them home to your parents - careful introductions and you will still have your girls keeping you warm at night - I did this 18 years ago and never regretted taking mine home for 4 months - parents dogs did though and I still have HRH Princess Sweetie keeping me warm she is now 18 and the best thing was to keep her and her brother with me - they both loved their new Daddy when the tiome was right

What do you think would be less stressful for my cats?
« Reply #1 on: July 13, 2010, 13:47:14 PM »
I left my boyfriend last week (which is why I haven't been on the forum much recently) and the flat that we rented together is going back to the landlord at the end of August.

I have 2 options for the cats until I've sorted out my own place and was wondering what you guys think would be the less stressful option for them.

1st option - I am moving back to my parents for a couple of months and they are happy for the cats to come with me, but they have 3 legged Casper, who only seems to get on with other male cats. They have a large house and Casper is indoor/outdoor but I am concerned that it may stress out my girls and Casper.

2nd option - My friend at work wants to adopt a cat/2 cats and has said she is happy to look after them at her house as a way of showing her husband that its a good idea. She loves cats and lives not far from work so I could easily visit them.

I guess the question is, is it more stressful to be with me in an environment with another cat or to be with other people but in an environment with no other cats?
