Well , took my eye off the ball spending too much time with Alfie.

Went in to put foster cats to bed and one of the kittens was all limp and floppy.
Judith and I rushed to Emergency vet with mum and kits.

little floppy ones temp was too low to register but we gave fluids, aBs and steroid. She died shortly after getting home when I was sorting out heat pad.
Others have a high temp, all not eating. I hope we've caught them in time and no one else gets "it". (especially little Alfie)

Thought mum felt hot this morning when I had her at vets to take stitches out (different vet), I should have asked them to take her temperature - always go with instincts...

What a lovely little family! Romeo sounds much tamer than my "semi" feral Squeak, i can only stroke him when hes got no way of getting away from me! Hope you find homes for them all

Well what can I say about Romeo?

Cleaning his pen out is a right nightmare.

All he wants is fuss, fuss , fuss, to be groomed and have his tummy rubbed. Using a pooper scooper results in poo everywhere as he headbutts everything in sight.

Juliet was spayed tuesday and is FIV negative. Romeo went up to her cage yesterday and gave her a good face washing.
 

The terrible four are slowly getting better.

Just returned with the 4th kitten! he/she has been keeping away from the trap after catching the 3 siblings yesterday.
Took two of the kits back in a carrier at 7pm after the fundraiser and call at 10pm to say we had caught the little blighter.

So we now have mum, dad(?), and 4 kittens - oh yes, all black!

Well having been the very proud Mother of 2 FIV Ferals - Miss Hissy Holly who came for Christmas and stayed 9 glorious months and died 5 weeks after moving with us and then Sadly Sailor who we tamed and homed on with his siter Amber who both came back to us when their parents lost their home he was 7 when he died in my arms - he was unhandlable his while life until the last 8 weeks when he suddenly becma eindoor/outdoor and loved to have his chin stroked.

Ours were house cats at our choice and mixed with the then 37 members of the Clan and we had no transfer - we know for deffo at Oct 2008 as we lost a rescue cat Gem to FIP and had them all tested and all were negative - have to say all the newbies have been tested and all were negative but I know that it wouldn't have made any diference by then they were named and Clan cats and would have styed - Sailors sisiter is negative and always has been - she is now 8

Outside ferals do adapt to home lfe as long as they have friends - we have indoor only cats mainly ferals who are like one big colony and welcome any newcomers - I sadly have more probs with the dogs who want to be their friends and end up getting shredded when they try the first couple of times to sniff rear ends!  Have to say all my ferals adore the dogs now and some still have nore isues with the humans!!!

Our rescue will neuter and look for either indoor homes (if its thought the cat would adapt to indoors) or to a home where the garden is cat proofed, or a cat run.

If you neuter to stop aggression, roaming etc, could you not release him back into the feral community?  Assuming he's been around for a while, he won't pose any more of a threat than before he was tested?

Obviously if he could be homed to an indoor environment that would be great, or an enclosed garden or similar, but in case he can't, I wonder if that could be a possibility?

AFter all, how many FIV+ cats are out there already that we don't know about?

Trying to trap a mum and 4 kits we have so far got mum and a male cat that was following her around.

Romeo went straight in to be castrated and tested. he handled quite well this morning when we were checking him out, but the vets tell me he has been getting more and more 'restless' as the day has gone on.

He's now in a pen here.

So, being as he tested FIV+ , What's his future going to hold in store?

I suppose I will have to assess how well he will cope in an indoor environment and make a decision then.
What would other rescues do with him?

Juliet will also need testing when she gets spayed. At the moment she's filling up with milk and not a kitten in sight - can't believe the pilchards are going to fail! (apparently they were in and out of the trap yesterday evening eating with gusto but not setting the thing off)
