Im not sure what dakota is but her spay area is normal now, i didnt notice much difference tbh as she has a black silver kind of coat.

Its a very quick op now and the GAs are so much safer so try not to stress yourself too much

I have a colourpoint persian and the only thing I noticed with her coat when she was spayed was that where she was shaved grew back a darker colour.

Can you tell me if the coat colour change evened out over time, ie when she had moulted and got a full adult coat? I have a 3 month old grey kitten ( Birman x maine coon ) and am a little concerned that the spay scar will leave her with a very patchy coat. A minor concern I know.....but in fact I am already worried about the operation itself....I was worried sick  when my Nellie was done years ago, nearly died when the vet called me as I really thought he had lost her. Turned out he needed consent for termination as well as spay!

I have a pedigree Birman (very similar to Raggies) and his coat was none the worse for neutering. My BSH Stevie is also neutered , and he has the lovliest coat! ;D

DO NOT BREED OR BUY WHILE SHELTER ANIMALS DIE

I believe I am not interested to know whether Vivisection produces results that are profitable to the human race or doesn't. To know that the results are profitable to the race would not remove my hostility to it.  Mark Twain

DEFINATELY neuter him and make sure to keep him in for 6-8 weeks afterwards as well.

I have zero experience of Ragdolls but neutered NFCs usually have much better coats than entires as they put all their effort into their coats rather than all their efforts into being pregnant/having kittens or generally calling for the opposite sex.

also my sister was thinking of breeding him with her Ragdoll.

The chances are that if you got your Ragdoll from a responsible breeder your Ragdoll was sold on the Non Active register which means that they are NOT to be bred from and any kittens would not be able to be registered as pedigrees (even if the other cat was a pedigree Ragdoll also). Breeding cats is not simply a case of putting a male and female together and 9 weeks later having gorgoeus fluffy babies. All sorts of horrible things can and do happen and at the end your sister could have no kittens and no female either. Boopy's sister had what appeared to  be a normal pregnancy, when she gave birth it became apparent that a kitten had already died and caused a massive infection. Despite an emergency csection and sterilisation she and her kittens died that night  :'(

Defiinitely neuter him.  And don't let him out for at least 6 weeks afterwards as they can still make babies for a few weeks post neutering  ;)

I have a colourpoint persian and the only thing I noticed with her coat when she was spayed was that where she was shaved grew back a darker colour.  This should not be a problem in a male cat - he may just have a slight darker backside

It takes up to six weeks for the hormones to completely calm down so definitely think the feliway is worth a try.

You will find that his coat will be thicker in the winter than in the summer months - try making grooming him into a game and just do little and often.
Neutering him shouldnt alter his coat at all and he may still spray for a few weeks until his hormones settle down completely - it may be worth trying a Felliway plug in.
Well done on having him neutered, you will have a happier cat and hopefully a pee free home.  As others have said I definately wouldnt let him out - a lot of pedigrees get stolen.

I dont understand why his coat would change with him being neutered? surely he would still be as gorgeous anyways  ;) As for the spraying- is he doing it to mark his territory or is he doing it because he's just came into season? One of mine started weeing on carpets when he came of age, I had him neutered and it stopped right away  :)

Never had a pedigree so can't tell you about the coat change. But the spraying won't stop straight away as far as I know due to the hormones still being in his system.

Sorry, not very up on "posh cats." ;)

I'll pass on the breeding then, do you think he'll stop spaying straight away and do you think his coat change

Nine months isn't all that young to get Casper neutered - I'd definitely go for it. With regards to breeding, sorry I'm with the "discouraging it" brigade....just look on Kelly Joys site; there are a LOT of ragdolls already needing homes that had them and got put into rescue.

Hi all i'm looking for some advice on my 9 month old ragdoll baby Casper. Now he is coming of age he has started spraying EVERYWHERE  >:( over the weekend he has managed to spray on my daughters bed, under my bed, a pillow,2 pairs of shoes,a Primark bag left on the floor thankfully empty and last night by the front door
My hubby is going mad at me to let him outside like the others saying the house stinks of cat wee  and he'll be happy if he went out but after what happened to Ice baby i can't and also would he be picked up by someone being a Ragdoll?
My other 2 cats were neutered at a young age but being a Ragdoll i was unsure wether to have Casper neutered in case his coat changed and also my sister was thinking of breeding him with her Ragdoll.
Anybody on Purrs have Ragdolls that are neutered?
