Cats have selected memory I reckon

Yep, they remember where the food dish is and what the sound of the tin opener sounds like, but conveniently forget you fed them five minutes ago and start asking for more.
They remember their name when you take the packet of treats out in another room but conveniently forget what their name is when you're shouting at them to get off the kitchen worktops from another room.

Cats have selected memory I reckon, they remember only things that have affected them in some way good or bad.

They can make maps in their heads for getting to place to place which is so clever and when they come home from a cattery, vets etc often do a tour of their territory to see if its all there or has changed in some way.

I have never had a cat who didnt do this and the worst is when they make a dash for the cat flap while still recovering from sedation........sigh.

Yes she may be able to smell the other cats but it will wear off but thats not as bad as a furmate who has been to the vets cos apparently they smelll just terrible, so the birmamns tell me  :innocent:

I am sure by tomorrow she will have settled down  ;D

How long is a cats memory?

I just ask as yesterday I collected Amber from the cattery where she had been for the first time alone. She was really vocal which is not her and when she came in she kept searching around the flat. I dont know if its

- she wants to see thats nothing has changed
- shes looking for Mogs who would normally be there
- shes bothered by the smell of my brothers cats where I stayed

Apart from that shes totally fine although with her being vocal Im keeping an eye out for cystitis but hoping its just a glad Im home yow

love
