I'm not sure why your cat would lose fur in that area but my cat Schui used to pluck his fur there when his anal glands were compacted.  Hope you manage to find out what the problem is

Is she pulling it herself? I have a cat that likes to pull the fur from her paws- the vet says it physiological
Just because your out of sight, does not mean your out of mind <3

My cats fur is also shorter and rougher there, could it be moulting and time of year?

On my cats its nothing to worry about but if baldness was occurring then maybe a reason and a vet check needed

fur loss?

Our cat has started to lose fur around the base of her tail & lower back.
It's not total hair loss but it's thinned a lot and the hair that is growing is very short and rough.
Any ideas what could be causing it?

She's treated for fleas and I've had a good check and haven't found any although she does groom herself a lot.
