Cupcake and kittens have been to the vet this afternoon after Carol and I had the heartbreaking task of dealing with a second death. Please keep everything crossed for the remaining 3 kittens who dont have a lot going for them and for Cupcake who is very stressed at present.

I dont do Rainbow bridge, I dont do candles or RIPs but I do feel grief and this evening we are grieving for a little boy who only came into this world yesterday. Not long enough to make his mark on the world but long enough to leave a pawprint in our hearts. I do know that poor Carol will be equally devastated, yesterday was filled with so much joy and Carol was like an excited Grandma.
Cupcake is fine.

Our beautiful Cupcake gave birth to kitten NO.5 during the night. I was delighted that Carol saw the birth it is such a wonderful thing and Cupcake was the perfect cat to watch. Carol was beaming with delight and was very careful to watch the clock and see when she could do the next round of inspection  Cupcake has eaten well this morning and is a very protective mum.

Am very jealous Carol.  Have never witnessed a birth either and to have Teresa's experience on tap as well must have made it far less stressful than it could have been  :)

She is a very very beautiful girl  :Luv2: :Luv2: :Luv2:

Sorry about that.  I wasn't teasing - I  really did have to go and eat.  :innocent:

Well I met Cupcake for the first time this morning and she is gorgeous - she has the the most beautiful green eyes.  :Luv2:   She was very relaxed and friendly and purred like mad when I stroked her but didn't want to come out of her bed.  I took some photies for the Paws Inn thread and when I showed them to T she homed in on the still half-full food bowl that was visible in one of the pics saying 'she's not eaten all her breakfast, I think she's ready.'   You can't fool T.  :)

Which is how I came to check on Cupcake with uncharacteristically impeccable timing and witness the first birth. :Luv2:  We left her alone to do her own thing after that but went back to check periodically and she produced the kittens at approximately hourly intervals.  As I've already mentioned that was my first experience of a cat giving birth so I have nothing to compare it with but Cupcake seemed very relaxed about the whole thing.  I on the other hand was on teneterhooks the whole time and am exhausted now.

Here she is just about 2 hours prior to the birth.  She was understandably being very protective of her newborns so kitten pics will have to wait a few days.

I wonder if we are getting un-necessarily excited and the update/surprise/secret is poop related  :evillaugh:

Oh Helen you know us so well.   I'm used to Paws Inn cats expressing their happiness at seeing me by rushing to the tray to poop and that's exactly what I thought mum-to-be Cupcake was doing was doing when I peeped in and saw her standing on her back paws with her front paws on the side of the box.  But as I watched she dropped her first kitten onto the pristine white vet bed.  ;D   :Luv2:

By the time I leftPaws Inn xxzshe had produced another 3 and she looked to me as though she was calling it a day at that but as this is my first ever experience of kitten birth I wouldn't have too much confidence in that.  :evillaugh:

Colours?  Exactly what T predicted.  ;)

Sorry got to go, OH has just put my dinner on the table (hungry work this midwifery).  Photo of mum-to be before the excitement started to follow.

Clare adding them together won't strain the finances that much just booster and flea treatment - we haven't changed food that much and we are well in to double figures and then you can have one each to help ease the loss of Miss daisy

I think Happy and Rainbow would be purrfect additions and playmates for JO Ripley :innocent:

Being the same colour steve would take a while to notice and by then their paws are firmly under the table :innocent:

Havent been around on Purrs much but still follow Paws Inn and have recently lost my beloved Daisy which has been heartbreaking,  with much support through the whole ordeal from Teresa which I have to give heartfelt thanks for,  we have decided to adopt another baby and have reserved Constance from Paws Inn,  I actually have no preference on colour for a new baby and am thinking that if black kittens are harder to home then maybe we should rehome Happy ?,  so what do you guys think ?,   Paws Inn baby and female is my only stipulation  ;D

From what we read on here (round the clock feeds, bathing several tiny wriggling, uncooperative bodies, coaxing cats out of overgrowth...) I'd hope noone thinks what you do is easy. I know I don't - and not just the physical side of things. The emotional side too....I think that is probably even worse in some ways.

You and your team do an amazing job. I really hope you feel massively better soon.
