My dear Leo is back at the vets.. He is on a drip as he is stillnot eating much... They are doing bloods againI made the appointment yesterday as he was very subdued yesterday and really had not eaten much in 2 days..But actually he seemed perkier this morning wanting to go outsdie. But i still went to the vets anyhow..

The vet mentioned "kidney" but his bloods where fine 2wks ago.. But i knoe that things change.. Still i am ringing later on 5ish if they do not ring before to see how he is.. At least i can take some comfort that he is getting something into him that may perk him up...

Really pleased to hear that Leo is progressing well. Animals seem to adapt so quickly, they're amazing.  I suppose they must just feel as if something is a bit odd, not really realise what has happened and then just get on with things, quickly figuring out what they can do and what they can't - one of the benefits of not being able to count I suppose!

My friend's (admittedly young) tripod manages to scramble over 7' fences...

They do adapt amazingly to life as a tripod - Suki's a back leg short of a picnic (has been ever since I got her - ringing CPL for a moggie and saying you're a sucker for a hard luck story tends to have results like this), and when I rehomed her it wasn't long after the amputation, her fur hadn't grown back or anything - but she takes on stairs, has the most amazing routes worked out to get up to places she shouldn't get up to and things like that. When she encountered a kitten, she hoiked herself up on its back and used it as a stump rest! She was still pretty scrappy and would lean on you to keep her balance and things when we got her for a fair length of time.

The only real issue we've found is with it being her back leg - she can't "up jump" well at all because she's functioning on half the spring of a normal cat - while she can get on and off the sofa, she'd rather sit there and look pathetic and get a human to lift her up - and anything higher than that she struggles with... she can climb a cat tree but it's a somewhat ungainly and very unladylike process. The limp does elevate to oscar-winning levels when anyone gullible is in the vicinity too.

Hopefully it's the end of his problems.

Leo has to go back to vets today for checkup.. He is dong okay just things take longer for an older boy. He has lost some weight which was my concern but seems to be doing well today with eating.. Have taken him off metacam and he is allowed free reign of the house now... He is asleep in the conservatory today and has to go back on We dor stitches to be rehomed.. I think i

So far so good for the old boy and he seems to be coping with 3 legs... Does not seem to be in discomfort and his eye is getting better.. But it may take another wk or so.. He has not been outside yet, but did manage to get out side the catflap the other night and caused me to have kittens!! Jumps okay and with some help seems to be okay with getting onto back of sofa... Is drinking fine and has used the litter tray...He seems more alert today.. The vet was happy with things.. just hope he picks up with his eating and puts on the bit he has lost

IT didn't take PEbbles 6 weeks - she had cage rest for 10 days, the first thing she wanted to do after that was go out, but I wouldnt let her. She managed the stairs within half an hour, and the bed within a day, so I let her out after 2 days. Mind you, she got out of the cage when I tried to give her some company the day she came home, which would have been 2 days after her op.

So pleased that Leo is home and doing well

I think that it takes two to 3 weeks to start getting back to normal but prob should take about 6..............I know that Desley knows cos she had a cat who had to lose a leg.

Slowly slowly is best

Sleeping is good Sharon .... his body will be using all it's energy to repair and heal and like you say if he was in pain or discomfort he wouldn't sleep or curl up so I guess all the signs are good   :Luv2:

Sharon, it sounds like he is coming along well. If I'd had a limb removed only 5 days ago I would not be being so friendly and sure as heck would be sleeping all the time. Give him a cwtch from me and Widget.

I have a few fish4cats 99% Salmon pouches which are high in Omega 3 which is good for cell renewal (and therefore healing) I will bring them with me later. Clapton said Leo can have some of his Royal Canin beauty pouches as well, which are also high in Omegas. They also have egg in which is good for cell growth.

Well Leo sat on my lap while having my early morning tea this morning. He is now sleeping...he has not eaten muchthough, but i suppose its still early days...things to take a bit longer when they are older...He is still on meds the vet said to use Metacam rather then the stronger, pain relief he has been on (morphine type)..I find it really hard to judge what i should be expecting at the moment, he isnt very noisy, loves a nice stroke, but is sleeping a lot and still not eating vast amounts (but drinking and using the litter tray okay). It is after all only the 5th day.. I have left his collar off while i am around as he seems to be very good and does not seem to have a go at the stitches...He also sleeps on his missing leg side which he maybe would not do if if it hurt a lot..He wraps himself round in a ball and has a sleep.. I will try later on with some cooked fish i did earlier...

Oh my, poor Leo. I'm glad he is doing well and is home. You must be worried sick about him.

I had a bit of a tumour scare with Widget a couple of weeks ago. Thankfully his lump turned out to be a cyst, but for the 3 days waiting for the op and the hours waiting for him to come round  (he's 14 years old and it took him ages to wake up) and the day of frothing at the mouth due to a bad reaction to the aesthetic were some of the most worrying days in my life.

I hope that Leo has a fast and full recovery and it turns out that the tumour he had was benign.

Good luck Little Leo, Widget and I are both sending you love, cuddles and happy healthy vibes. :Luv:

Leo was so good last night.. He has had abit of food but not alot..but i still think the meds are in his system.. He is currently sleeping but i did have him in the conservatory earlier for a change of scenery... Will temp with some chicken later.. But he finds it very hard to eat with his buster collar on...His eye looks abit gunky but it odoes not seem to cause too much problem for him.. He has managed to use the litter tray and Paula has lent me her CP puss radiator bed for him tonight.. Although he is very nr the fire in the hall way.. But its abit colder today.. was sunny earlier but not know..

He has had a good wash but the dressing did not last that long, its still on him, but shifted position.. But best to leve well along.. So are things are not too bad
