Reading between the lines, the collar is only if she does start chewing at the glue. We tried the collar on her last night to see how she would react cause some don't really care- she was not happy! She was flopping all over the place and so we know we will only use it if she does start chewing at the glue which I think is unlikely. I think she would do herself more of a mischief with all the flopping around to get the collar off!

I remember my first foster that got spayed liked to sit on top of a single bed I had on its end, so 6ft tall - I split it so she couldn't be tempted - she went on the wardrobe (which was higher!!) instead, pulling her collar off in the process. Luckily she made enough noise, as it was after I went to bed. The second foster was hyper to start with, but more hyper for 2 days, if she didn't have a bald patch and collar, you would never have known!!

I am surprised they are recommending a collar with glue though, seems a tad extreme, the idea is they aren't as bothered with glue.
Please spay your cat

I'm glad she's good :)  :Luv:

I remember the vet telling me to keep Mia still and resting after her op and that was impossible  :evillaugh:

The vet has given me a buster collar to put on her when I'm not around to check she's not eating the stitches. She has glue but a determined cat can get through that apparantly so we will see what a pickle she is!

I cant say that any of my females have been calm when the stitches are in, hence me leaving the lampshade on!  :evillaugh:

Glad her op was fine!  :Luv2:

I was told to encourage her to rest and keep play fighting and climbing to a minimum- not sure what chance I have got of her listening to me on that one!

She's home- and already tearing around, attempting to climb bookcases and generally causing mischief! I thought she was supposed to be sleepy after an anaesthetic!  :shify:

I can imagine Liz!!! The vet is recommending all 3 things but we'll see how she gets on with the buster collar and if it drives her mad, then we'll make a decision to trust the glue. If it doesn#t bother her, then we'll leave it to be extra safe. It will all be about what she's happy with.
She was such a cutie, vet had trouble listening to her heart cause she wouldn't stop purring at the extra attention- she's such a lil tart!  :Luv2:

Hope all goes well for your little girl

|If you do the glue and internal stitches no need for a buster collar - we have our feral girls done that way cause we would need hospital treatment after they woke up wearing a collar

Well we've taken the food up and she will be going off to the vets for 9am tomorrow! Our vet is absolutely lovely so I know she's in good hands, not sure she'll be impressed with the buster collar (Think it will make wrestling interesting! ) but it means she's growing into a grown up pud!!!

Yeah Jaspie is a real hunk- I love all my babies but Jasp and I are especially close.  :Luv2: He even went through a phase of being jealous of 'Daddy' and got the hump with him for hugging me!  Luckily, he's got over it now and has realised I have plenty of love to go round!

Thanks, I'll contact them and see who they use then as I'd be much happier getting all pet/show kittens neutered before they leave me. At the moment I have it in my kitten contract that they must be done before they are six months old and I give them a certificate of neutering for the vet to fill in when they do the op (and I put their microchip number on the for the vet can check the cat presented for the op is actually the cat the form is about!) and I won't send out registration paperwork to the new owners until I get this form back.

P.S: I think we might need some more pics of the lovely Jasper :Luv: He looks so cute!

It does depend on the vets to be honest Lottie. Many forward-thinking vets believe in early neutering but there are still plenty that will only neuter at 5 months minimum and prefer 6 months. It really does depend on the vet! As long as they are an experienced vet though, it is perfectly safe. Perhaps if your vet is not keen, check with your local CP as to which vet they use as CP policy is to neuter at 16 weeks (some branches to 12 weeks) so you will be able to have them done somewhere. I am sure it would feel much better to know they have been done before they go I imagine, if they are being homed as pets rather than for breeding. :)

She's around 2kg although I think she has put on a few more grams in the last couple of weeks since she was weighed.

Thanks ever so much, it is obviously just my vet being a pain then rather than a size issue as my kittens are usually that at 10-12 weeks so they'd be plenty big enough at 13-15 wks.

P.S: If you don't mind me asking how much does she weigh? (just so I can say to my vet that someone I know has had a kitten who weigh's xkgs done, please neuter my kittens)

She's around 2kg although I think she has put on a few more grams in the last couple of weeks since she was weighed. At CP we have done kittens as young as 12 weeks and much smaller than Tabs with no problems- our surgeon is of the opinon- if you can neuter a hamster, you can neuter a small cat!. I tend to see the logic!
I'm sure as long as your vet is experienced, it will be fine :)

She's beautiful - I love tabbies  :Luv2:

If I ever get another cat, a tabby will be at the top of my list. They are real cats - I don't mind a ginger or a grey silver  :)

« Reply #1 on: February 08, 2010, 11:54:26 AM »
I can't believe my little baby cat is big enough to have her spay now! She's going next Monday as she is now 5 months old and I am very keen to have her done before her first season as well as being quite an advocate of early neutering. She isn't big enough to have been done earlier but now seems like the right time. Because she is so petite, she won't be doing outside any time soon but at least if she is spayed, there won't be any hold ups when we feel the time is right.
Am gonna take some piccies in a min so will post those up. She really is just the happiest, sweetest little cat-person and loves to chirp and chat away!
