Thanks everyone. I didn't realise just how draining it is. You are fighting for normality but frightened to leave them alone for a minute. Now she is drinking, she isn't eating - there are so many dishes around with things to tempt her but no luck. The vet said we made need to make a decision in a matter of days depending on what happens. She has been drinking lots of water - so much so that amazingly, her the skin on her neck has gone supple again. It is so confusing.

I now have to keep cleaning her chin as well as her eyes.

 so sorry to hear this Mark

On the bright side, within a couple of minutes of getting back, she ran up to the bathroom and started licking the tap. I turned it on and she drank solidly for 3 or 4 mintes then had a pee - amazingly, in the tray rather than on the new John Lewis rug.

I am sorry to hear things aren't looking good Mark. I have had anti-nausea drugs for cats though, just can't remember them off hand, and got a cat on my knee, let me do a search, as am sure I had some for Rosie and Tino.

The vet said we are reaching the end of the road. He said the best thing we can do is to try to get as much water into her as possible. I told him that I had been syringe feeding her water and he thought that was good. He has given me a larger syringe. He mentioned things I am doing already such as adding water to food etc. He said the dribbling is nausea. I asked if he could give her something for nausea as she may drink if she didn't feel sick. He said there wasn't a licenced drug in the UK but he could give her an unlicenced anti-emetic if I asked for it. I can't remember the name but I thought it said convenia in the book although I thought that was an antibiotic. He looked at her mouth and sais there was a spot of blood which was ulceration. He also showed me that you can clearly see the blood vessels in her eyes which is another sign of toxin build up. I asked if it was worth giving her more B12 and Laurabolin but he said it was too soon. He said if she doesn't improve or gets worse over the next week, they can try one more 24hr on fluids but he doesn't think it would help  :( He said we know the road we are travelling on and we know the destination - it is just a case of how long. We agreed that quality is what matters. I have told OH - there was no easy way.

On the bright side, within a couple of minutes of getting back, she ran up to the bathroom and started licking the tap. I turned it on and she drank solidly for 3 or 4 mintes then had a pee - amazingly, in the tray rather than on the new John Lewis rug.

I had a book a while ago about older cats, and their problems, and remember reading that cats with CRF will choose to sit in strange places, such as in dirty  puddles out in the cold

it sounds as if Willow is doing something equivalent

We decided better safe than sorry. Her mouth has white stuff around it like dried milk only she hasn't had milk. Although she is hovering over water bowls etc, she is happy to eat and devoured a piece of ham fat. She is wandering around the house doing a funny meow. She is back in the bathroom sink - very odd but she seems to be making a point of sitting in the coolest places, like near the bedroom window in the draught rather than in he warm bed by the radiator. She is definitely more coherent today but not enough of an improvement. OH said to ask if they can do subQs while I am there but doesn't want her kept in overnight again as he thinks it upset her too much. I said that if they do them with instructions for me to do them again later, I will need help as I only have 2 hands which aren't enough for an uncooperative cat.

Sometimes we have to try and listen to the vets advice and then balance it with how we know the cat and then just bloomin guess, such a worry

There is a definite improvement but she is still sitting hunched by the water globe. It is so hard to decide if it is worth putting her through the stress is she is getting better. This probably sounds selfish but I really need to get on with my revision and everything has gone on hold lately. Today is pretty much a washout as I ended up with less than 4 hours sleep. I wish she could speak to me  :(

I really do agree but also understand that some of us are more practical about these things. I got up at 6am (she was meowing and wandering round) and made her up some sheba with water and Renalzin in which she ate/drank 1/2 of and then went to one of the water dishes and had a REALLY long drink. She is ignoring the 2 different fountains in the bedroom I think I will be going to the vet this morning as she still seems out of it. Now she is a bit more hydrated, they can probably run full bloods to get a better idea of what is going on.

I syringed another 2ml of water down her throat (I do it slowly to make sure she swallows) - I would have done more but OH couldn't bear to watch   :-: - so  a hand with SubQs is out of the question.

Sorry to be a bit brutal but, it seems to me that your partner needs to understand that Willow's medical needs are far greater than their sensibilities. In addition, you seem to be shouldering more than your share of responsibilities . I dread to think what would happen to Willow if you weren't around!

Although she has been getting a fair bit of fluid today as well as eating OK, she is still doolally  :( - she is desperate to get outsdie but just heads for the fence at the back and sits under one of the vets bins. We can't risk her going AWOL so have locked the flap. She keeps hammering at it for hours on end - it is driving us crazy. She won't settle on the sofa. I keep taking her up to bed but she ends up lying in the bathroom sink. I think we will be back at the vet tomorrow.
