I phoned the vet again and told them she was hovering over bowls smacking her chops etc. The VN said that it can take their bodies a while to adjust after coming off fluids so she may need a kick start. I tried doing subQs but she was having none of it - she has about 6 holes and took about 2ml  :( - I took the Catit water dome thing out of storage and she has been drinking from it a bit. Also I gave her another pouch of sheba with lots of water added and she drank the liquid. The VN said whatever happens if she isn't drinking properly later on to bring her in.  :crossed:

The VN said their bodies need to adjust to hold more fluid in after so much being flushed through them. Willow still has the Uraemia smell.

She shouldn't be doing it after being rehydrated? - I will speak to the vet again but it isn't fair on her or me to be backwards and forwards to the vet every couple of days.  :(

I don't want to keep her going and stuffing her full of meds - its no life for her.

I gave her a fortekor this morning. She is still acting odd - ie sitting in the shower or sink and hovering over water bowls. She did eat a pouch of sheba with lots of water added. We will have to see but I don't think it is looking good.

She is slowly returning to normality and has just eaten a 2nd meal. I didn't have the heart to scruff & pill her tonight but will do it tomorrow morning when she is more with it. I just feel like I need to give her a breather - maybe the wrong decision but one had to be made. She just seems so thin and frail - although she was certainly strong at the vets

For some reason she has picked the dining room to chill in so OH is going to sleep on the sofa in there.

Well I went to pick up a lunatic cat. She was thrashing around the cage and screaming at me or anyone that tried to go near her. They said she was the same in the morning so the vet had to sedate her to get the drip off. The VN said it was probably a combination of the sedative and not being happy there. Anyway, she calmed down when we got back but we need to keep an eye as she is falling off things. Hopefully she will sleep it off now she has had a feed and a drink  :Luv2:

I now have a supply of SubQ kit.

Glad to hear this, so she is perking up with the fluids?  :wow:

I think that is the idea. So hopefully if I have a bag of fluids, I can nip it in the bud if I see her acting odd.

I phoned the emergency number and got the voicemail of the vet I saw yesterday. I got a call back 10 minutes later from a VN apologising for not calling earlier but they have had a horrendous morning. She said the vet had been in surgery for the last couple of hours. She asked if I would be able to pick Willow up. I said rather acidly that I had been ready since 9am but could I collect her now. She said she has a lot of animals to sort out so can I come at 6pm and she will give me a SubQ demo.

so know how that one feels

Hope the news is good for Miss Willow and her daddies

take it you will be there with a flask before they are open!

I would but they are going to phone me around 9am to give me a time. The vet said 24hrs would be good so I don't want to push them to take her off any earlier. I am trying to be positive and think it is an opportunity to take some bits to the dump on the way  :)

It is so hard with OH because as soon as I say anything about likely events in the future I get told off for being depressing. OH won;t even come to the vet as it is "too upsetting"

Thanks everyone. I'm trying not to think of her at the vet. I told Dennis that I'm prety sure they give them a light sedative so they don't get stressed?

Anyway, there is a flat upstairs to the practice and not sure if the duty vet stays up there or one of the VNs. What makes it more worrying is my friends cat, Kev, died while at the vets on during the night while having fluids. He was 17 though.

It is hard discussing it with OH though as he asks questions but when then says I am depressing so I really have to pick my words carefully. I have made it clear that although fluids etc are helping, they are no cure and he will have to get used to the idea of making a decision at some point.
