There was a knock at the door early yesterday evening, it was Duke's owner, with a box of choccies for me. I was already desperately trying to dry my eyes (yes, crying yet again!) before I answered the door, well you can imagine can't you? He came in and met the cats properly and I explained my red eyes, and then asked how Duke was, the vet apparently had warned him that Duke may not be with them for much longer (vet is thinking not just the hyperT and kidneys, poss cancer  :( ) - and Duke's owner also had tears in his eyes when he told me this  - nearly started me off again, talk about emotional  :)

Great to hear Duke has caring owners after all.  Suppose even the fact that they allowed him to stay with someone else overnight is excusable bearing in mind he's done it before  :-:

HyperT and CRF doesn't make for a well kempt puddie but so nice that he's loved  :)  Well done for assisting on the grooming front Gillian and glad it provided a distraction from your troubles

Glad to hear the story has a fairly happy ending, and your overnight guest has a caring forever home. I had hoped as much since he had a collar and phone number!

That sounds more positive, poor old kitty, yep thyroid can make the fur quite greasy and knotty.  I was showing OH the photo last night and I said I bet Gillian will sort his coat out  ;D

He was picked up a few hours ago. Apparently he has been 'catnapped' before! and he does wander, and has always had access to outdoors - when I said he'd gone into the town hall his owner said he also likes to go to the hotel next door!!

So, he's about 17 (they've had him since he was a kitten) and is hyperthyroid - he has been to the vet just last week and the vet thinks something else is going on - I suggested kidneys because of that 'ureamic' (sp?) smell, which he thought too, and I said there are things that can help. They have been struggling with his coat - and I must admit the coat can suffer when they have hypert, and the knots were all underneath (the rest of the coat was okay ish) so not the easiest to get to - especially when he is apparently quite feisty! - he bit the vet last week  :evillaugh: He didnt mind me brushing him last night though - and when his owner came I said I'd get the underneath knots of while he was here to hold him if wanted, so I managed to get most of the big knots out, and gave the rest of the coat a good brush - he looked a lot better than when I brought him back last night  ;) - I gave the owner one of my cards  :evillaugh:

Anyway, for me, with all thats going on at the mo - it was actually quite a good distraction - gave me something different to focus on  ;)

Im glad he found a good place to spend the night. Personally at that time of night I too wouldnt be happy to drive as I get night blindness and wouldnt feel safe. That said I would have been out looking if my cat was missing. On the coat again I know that Mogs is looking a tad scruffy around the back end as shes stopped grooming and isnt happy for me to do it. I try and she tolerates its and then tries to bite me so we stop for another day etc. But the condition he is in is too bad and I would have whisked him off to the vets

Be careful though Gillian if you start to feel too sorry for him he might just move on forever  ;)

Surely there may be series of valid excuse for the owners not being able to collect him tonight, but certainly not for his physical condition.  All this could NOT have happened after being lost for a day.  I really feel sorry for him returning to these "caring" people :shify:  but glad he was found and kept safe by the excellent Persian specialist for the night

Not everybody can drive or owns a car, and the owner could certainly have had a drink at this time of year.  Depends how far it is, I would have got a taxi if possible especially if Noah had been lost and not simply wandering. Doesn't really explain the matting or underweight tho ...  :(

OK so there must be loads of perfectly good reasons why the owner couldn't collect Duke tonight and he is so matted  :-:

Putting myself in the shoes of his mom and dad, those reasons escape me for the moment.  Perhaps they have had a drink and can't drive?  Hope Duke settles for the night Gillian.  Well done for taking him in bearing in mind you already have a lot on your plate

Do you think maybe he has kidney probs?

Yes, he IS just here overnight!  ;)

A friend of a friend of mine found him wandering in the town tonight (its tipping it down here!) - in fact he walked into the Town Hall  LOL! and for some reason my friend phoned me - is it because he is persian I wonder?  :evillaugh:

Anyway, he had a collar on and a phone number, which my friend had trying to ring but no answer, so I brought him back here and then called the number and his owner answered this time, apparently he's about 17 yrs old. So this is Duke and he's staying the night (only!) Owner collecting in the morning. His coat needs attention (some matting) and he's quite thin.
