Help needed for pregnant cats living on the grounds of a care home

Yes do get them to keep pestering CP for help - our branch has the luxery of having 2 experienced trappers in our team, but head office should loan out traps - it's only going to get worse...

If only people realised what problems they caused by NOT getting their cats neutered!!!!  Makes me so cross the problems we get all the time because of this!  Such a shame for the cats too, as I'm sure they'd be lovely pets if they'd have been treated properly from the start!        (Sorry rant over!)

Just let me know if there are any pregnant ones about and we'll do our best to help you out!

Bit of a disaster really.

Although the hearts of the carers are in the right place, it is a bit of a long shot catching this lot.  Most of them look like this year's kittens to me and are pretty wild.  There are definitely more than the original five spoken of, 11 were mentioned today!!!

Have left the trap with them as they are still trying to catch the one that is going to the Blue Cross and another black one that is going to Cats Protection in Southampton.

have suggested again they contact RSPCA or Cats Protection to get vouchers for neutering.  My old Vet hospital is literally 100 yards away from them so they can easily get them to the Vets for TNR.

Apparently, the root of the problem is a business run next door to the Care Home where they keep cats for rat catching but then deny the cats are there, refuse to get them neutered and basically tell the RSPCA that they are not their cats when they call.

None of them looked obviously pregnant to me but I may be wrong so your offer Sally, although wonderful, may prove to be unsuitable as I think they are all teenagers.

Will keep everyone advised of the situation.

Chewing the cable was bad enough as I'm lost without my laptop!  Still, new cable has arrived this morning so I'm back online!

Least yours wasn't peed on and blown up by a cat, 

Have spoken to Care Home and they didn't manage to catch any yesterday.  I am taking my trap over lunchtime so hopefully I will have a better idea of the situation then.

I think one of them went to the Blue Cross yesterday.  Am just finishing feeding everyone here and will then phone the Care Home for an up-date.  Will let you know what happens.

I'm in East Sussex, so not too far I guess from you.  I could possibly take a pregnant mum, mum & kittens or just kittens if that's any help for you?  They'll have to go in my spare double room, hence why it's not fair to take anything teenage ish age as they'll be confined to a room.

Where abouts are you Lesley?

I could possibly take in 2 kittens or an adult, but only have my own bedroom spare and have never looked after a pregant/nursing cat before... i'm in Leeds and don't have transport, but the offer's there if things get desperate!

That's very kind of you but I am on the South Coast, between Southampton and Portsmouth so distance could be a bit of an issue.

Things have progressed and it seems that the Blue Cross in Southampton may be able to take one of the pregnant ones and the Cats Protection in Southampton may be able to take another couple.  I am waiting for Jean at the Care Home to confirm things to me and then I just have to sort out some transport to get them there as my car is off the road and I can't afford to MOT and tax it until Thursday.  Once these are sorted I can see what we are left with.

I have had a call from a local Care Home that has approximately five cats living in their grounds, some of which appear to be pregnant.

Unfortunately, I have over 50 residents in at the moment and, due to the loss of our business, no money to help any more out at the moment.  Is there anyone who can take any of these kitties in - a long shot I know.

She has tried other rescues in the area who are also full.  I have passed on the numbers of the other rescues I could find in my area from CatChat and have also given her the CP Headquarters number to at least try and get neutering vouchers so that, if no one can take the cats in, at least they can be neutered to stop the population growing.

I don't know how tame these cats are, but I can help with trapping if that is necessary.

Edited to say - three of the cats can be picked up but the others are pretty feral and will not even eat in front of the staff trying to help them.
