I have two large ceramic dog bowls, one at either end of a one bedroomed flat. Shared between two cats. They do both drink from both bowls.

Sorry, no suggestions for how to stop the bowl being moved and tipped over :(

As to number of water bowls - I have 2 in the kitchen.  They both drink out of both of them (and are on wet food anyway) so I'm satisfied they are getting enough water with just those bowls.

Unfortunately moving the food bowls elsewhere won't solve the problem we have laminate flooring everywhere apart from the stairs.

I am now thinking of something like this http://www.orvis.co.uk/store/product.aspx?pf_id=43AC&dir_id=6259&group_id=7741&cat_id=7745&subcat_id=7748&adv=9652&cm_mmc=channeladvisor-_-google-_-2008-_-9652&CAWELAID=153295160

The smaller ones and cutting the legs down, I'm going to see if my Dad can make something similar.

I changed the bowls over last night and we awoke to the sound of Milo crashing it around  >:(

How much of that food is going to end up on the floor and mixed in the water  stupidly full dishes!

And, we know that cats don't like to drink water alongside their food. Would have been better to have separate food and water dishes so that you could fix them away from each other I suppose.

Gillian I love your bowl on a stand!!

I love that dish Gillian!!

Thanks  :thanks: and so simple to make, just take one of those double stand feeders - you know, the ones with two metals bowls. Remove bowls, turn upside down, place dish of your choice on the upturned legs and voila!  ;)

Leanne could you perhaps velcro your heavy bowl to the floor?? This feeder is beautiful and practical, but VERY expensive:

I love that dish Gillian!!

Byron seems to prefer a plate (like the one which I have their dish placed in) or a glass/cup, every night she follows me into the kitchen for her glass of water it's the highlight of her day  :evillaugh:

Mine won't drink out of bowls  :innocent: :innocent:
They'only drink out of glasses that are full to thr brim so muggins here is always on glass filling duty. I bought them a fountain a few weeks ago and Arty won't touch it and Pixie only uses it if I don't get up to turn the kitchen tap on when she demands it.

Would the bowls that rest on circular rims on a plastic tray be no good?

My bathroom has no skirting board and was debating taking them out in front room but probably will put in just a narrow one.

I have three of these around the house - my patented design!  ;) Would a shallow dish like this be better than a bowl perhaps? Mine all prefer to drink from shallow dishes than bowls - I've got them raised up on the metal stand just for a bit more height, but maybe just the shallow dish on its own might stop him moving it around?

Ahhh, gotcha. I've never encountered a room with no skirting board before....how new fangled! ;)

I hate it  we've got no door on our kitchen either - I live in a very odd house

Did you try fixing an L bracket to the wall? It stopped Toby from dragging the bowl and it really doesn't look as bad as you think it will!

Can't do that in a tiled kitchen  :-:

Why? Do tiled kitchens not have skirting boards? I'm confuzzled! :-:

Not in ours its a galley kitchen with no skirting boards, just units the entire length and s***ing kickboard which we can't attach anything to  :evillaugh:

If you put the bowl in a tray with a lip with double sided tape or blue tack holding it down, he wouldnt be able to move it.

You need to put a plastic sheet under the tray as well just in case he slops the water

What about the elevated feeding stands? I know they put metal bowls in them, but if you were to get a small plastic one it could fit inside of the metal one. Otherwise I'm thinking non tip plastic spaniel bowls - but they might be a bit hard to get to the water.

I have four ... 12 inch metal dog one in the kitchen, 12 inch in the dining room, both hold 1.5 litres. I have a deep retangular tupperware container on the landing and a regular sized metal cat bowl in my bedroom. The cat one is the one that gets moved/spilled whereas the big metal one only get moved when nearly empty. All bowls always get knocked or end up with toys in them followed by kitty fishing.

All bowls are on place mats .. the ones with the protective layer on them.

Yup on a mat, 2 mats in fact to make them stronger but Milo still gets them over the lip of it!

I caught Milo doing it over the weekend, he doesn't tip them, he puts his paws around them and drags them, he is really strong I don't quite understand why he does it though.

He does it too his food bowl too its never where we've left it. We always put his food down far away from Jess as they don't like to eat near each other, and we always find Milo's bowl in the lounge and his food all over the place.

Over the years we've moved the water bowls all round the house and we've had the same problem so I don't think its a case of trying different areas for the water, the flooring in our bedroom is coming up now as well.

Could Milo be tipping it over when he's covering it up  :sneaky:

I have one fountain and 6 cats, they all use it. Harry also uses the bathroom sink  :innocent:

Its not an opiton for me to have anymore water bowls around the house cos of the kids  :shy:

We have one giant ceramic dog bowl that is kept in our library.

They all love drinking out of it (but will go for my glasses of water if I’m not attentive), and the reason we went with the ceramic one is Penguin likes to splash which caused water to go everywhere when he tipped the bowl.

He’s not tipped this yet.

We had a fountain but it stopped working and I threw it out, but when it did work he never tipped it.

I've tried non spill bowls before, Milo doesn't like them he won't go near it because he can't get to the water which kinda defeats the object of having a water bowl.

The bigger the bowl the more he spills, I've tried bowls from work before (in fact I have a cupboard full of the damn things)

Neither cat likes mirrored bowls either so thats out.

Again last night I got home and found the water bowl where it shouldn't be and water all over the floor  :tired:

This is starting to worry us as its ruining out flooring and raising it, and I don't want to think about what damage its doing underneath  :shify:

Hubby said again about taking the water bowl up as they have their fountain on anyway, but I don't know whether we should?

The bowl in question is supposed to be a heavy bowl that can't be moved, but somehow Milo manages it.

Jess doesn't drink from it (we add water to his food to make sure his getting fluids)

Any thoughts?
