OOPS  OH just informed me cost £!200 per dose not per day, so £2400 per day

Julie any pennies raised from playing games to be spent on ferals

Anyway last couple of days I have enjoyed reading old threads about former rescues and couldnt resist copying this written by a very young Pedro for his favourite Unkle Paddy when Paddy was pawly.

Uncle Paddyyyyyyy I has been learning a song for you,it was Lily the Pink but dont like that so now its called

Paddyyyyyyy the Purrfect

We'll drink a drink a drink
To Paddy the Purrfect
Saviour of the feline race
For he invented medicinal laughter
Most efficacious in every case.

Sister Marguerita
had sticky-out ears
and it made her awful shy
and so they gave her Paddys medicinal laughter
and now she's learning nom nom nom.

Brother Diablo
Was notably bony
He would never eat his meals
And so they gave him Paddys medicinal laughter
Now they give him meals on wheels.

I am Pedro pre school kitten
And I couldn’t do a poopy poop
And so they gave me Paddys medicinal laughter
and now my poops are biggest in the land.

We'll drink a drink a drink
To our bestest Uncle Paddy
The saviour of the feline race
For he invented medicinal laughter
Most efficacious in every case.

So uncle Paddy I thinking of youz and I sending medicinal laughter to you and lovely Aunty Sue
Get well Paddy my hero

Strange how such little things bring such happy memories

Hope the meds help you feel better.

And don't you worry, fight as long as you can. We're all here for you (like it or not!).

Never trust how long the doctors give you anyway, they gave my friends mom a week and she lasted more than a year when fighting breast cancer.

Knock on door this morning, drug had arrived sooner than expected so chemist kindly delivered it, so I have had this mornings dose which means £600 in my lungs as 2 doses a day  Bet these rubbish lungs will soon be worth their weight in gold
The hardest part of finding out how ill you are is telling people and I feel a whole lot better this morning now this huge weight is off my chest, though I confess I confided in Clairer, Blip, Paddy and Lexy last year and they have been wonderful

Its taken a lot of courage to write what you have

Yes, I agree.

Take the treatment you are offered: if it does not cure you it will alleviate your symptoms.

And take each day at a time.  We none of us know our future span and any one of us could be gone tomorrow   That's what makes life so precious.  Look after yourself.

I couldn't agree more with this

Teresa, I'm sorry that you have been told that, as others have said none of us know what is around the corner however now that this is out in the open I believe it is more of a reason to take the medicines prescribed, if it can help you stay at home with your family rather than be in hospital that can only be a good thing - you have your new grandbaby to focus as well so you must stay as well as you can with any help that you can take - it must have been a terrible burden to have carried around for nearly a year

Oh Teresa. None of us know how long we have and it's not fair to tell anyone what their life span may be coz no one really knows.  Averages are just that, a mathematical thing averaging out numbers.  1 to 2 years may be right and then again may not be.  Thing is, if these expensive ABs  help to prolong your life and make you more comfortable, they are worth the price.  Like everyone else, I would prefer the tax collected from us all to help prolong a life rather than many things it is used for atm so why not help us feel useful?

meanwhile, I see there is research going on to transplant pig's lungs into humans, so who knows - something to go with that pig-headedness, maybe ;)

Teresa you really are silly not to want another prescription.  It doesn't matter how much it is and whatever the cost of meds and whether we pay it doesn't mean that meds will not go up in price.  You not taking another prescription will not put a stop to price increases.

You must take every day that is given to you and make the most of it.  Do not give in.

In 1969 my father was told he had 2 weeks to live and my mum brought him home from hsopital and gave up her job and looked after him.  He died 2 YEARS later.

Its taken a lot of courage to write what you have and it shows how special you are. May you have as much time as you can with us on Purrs

I second that.  I've said it before and I'll say it again - only you can decide when enough is enough but PLEASE don't make that decision on the grounds of cost to the NHS.  So the drug is not going to cure you - thats really sad, but if it improves your quality of life or extends a life that still has quality then its worth every penny and more.

The fact that you had 3 weeks at home and not 3 days  says everything

Its very sad what the doctors told you and of course we know that you a very very ill but being you are such a fighter, time should be taken one day at a time, just like in little Pedro. Every single day is a bonus to be lived to the full............ummmmmm within reason  ;)........and we are never going to write you off cos doctors are a bit like weather forcasters  :evillaugh:

You take your medicine for as long as they offer it, never ever turn it down.

Its taken a lot of courage to write what you have and it shows how special you are. May you have as much time as you can with us on Purrs

I Have had this drug before from 23 rd Dec to when I went back into hosp in Jan, it is an antibiotic which is nebulised and so goes directly into my lungs in order to hold off the Pseudomonas A-------- which causes the pneumonia, last time it bought me 3 weeks at home, so its not a miracle cure more a delay of ,the inevitable so in my honest opinion poor value for money,  I rest my case.

I have struggled with the decision as to when to make this public and the time never seems right but here goes

In March 2009 specialist gave me 1-2 years to live; I told family and a few very special friends as I needed to carry on as normal for as long as possible for the sake of the cats and my own sanity, I guess I owe you all honesty now, I will not be getting better, but I`m  a fighter and believe it or not still a non smoker  .

I am afraid the cost of this has really annoyed me and I wish I could get the prescription back and tear it up, OH collected it and left it with chemist so I had no choice. While people are stupid enough to pay huge prices costs will rise, but £1200 per day no way, I will use this lot as have no choice but will not get repeat when due.

teresa you must not treat yourself worse than your cats, you would do anything to save thier life and cost did not come into it, and neither should the cost of helping yourself.

all of us have paid ni contributions all of our lives for moments like this, so dont you dare refuse necessary medicine on the nhs!

i will personally bring a litter of cat ladies from purrs round there to deal with you if you spout this nonsense again, sorry  :innocent:

unfortunately those sorts of prices are what give pharma companies a bad name - yes a fortune does go in to r and d but really £1200 per day

Just catching up with things as not been on for a little while and can only add my agreement to what others have said T you are most certainly worth the money. When I think of all the money that has been given to banks only for them to pay out miliion pound + bonuses and the dosh that MPs have claimed over the years I know where I'd rather my taxes went! No wonder my sister who is a nurse is getting so disallusioned by her job  >:(

Glad you are out of the madhouse and hope that the drugs work when you get them

Sending lots of love and purrs from me and Hobbes. Hobbes says he's sending some of his special miaows too now that he has learned to speak  :Luv2:
