I don't think it's Ripley either I think he probably likes the idea of 2 homes  ;)
Please consider the harder to home cats in rescue.

if he's an only cat in his new home, maybe he fancies a bit of feline company from time to time

my first Russian Blue, Kushti, spend every day hanging around with a neighbour's five cats, but he came home for food and sleep every evening

I dont reckon its ripley either, maybe hes decided he wants to come home but after being a single cat for a while doesnt want to share. Is he making a straight and safe trip from them to you?

Yes the trip from them to us is safe,  it is just about a mile but it is all over fields,  I spoke to the lady who now owns Gerry and apparently he was cuddled up in front of a radiator in their bathroom this afternoon so he seems to know where he lives. Steve has been home all day today and not seen Gerry (Steve works on Saturday's so has a day off during the week in case you think I have a lazy husband  )  so hopefully he just came for a look and he will go away again.  I dont mean that in a nasty way but I have to look after the cats I have here and cant have any cat, even Gerry coming round here and being nasty to them,  mind you Ripley would probably just snuggle up to him because that is what he does with all the others,  even Lou Lou Flump who growls and growls when Ripley comes near,  but he doesnt seem to take any notice and gets all snuggled up and then she washes him   :Luv2:

Cant see Ripley being the cause somehow but then I`m biased, just maybe Gerry is one of those cats who likes to roam a bit and choose his home.
Think I should start a hold on to your bits Ripley petition, only joking

I assume Gerry is still a young cat?

an older cat might become confused about which house he belongs to

is the journey he is making between you and his new owners safe?

The Toms round here could smell Suzie - our neighbours cat - when she came into season.  They came in droves from, literally,  miles around.

My guess is they can also pick up the smell of an un-neuterd Tom on what may still be considered "their" patch - as in the case of Gerry.

Its got to be bye-bye b**ls time asap!! :evillaugh:

I would say he's come back as he's smelt another male about, I had a cat coming round when Harry was coming into manhood.
Just because your out of sight, does not mean your out of mind <3

I assume JOR hasn't gone out yet DM?  If that's right, is it actually possible for Gerry to suss that there is a new male cat in the house?

Did you pick Gerry up and check him over?  Very odd situation but know how worrying this must be for you.  I'd keep in touch with new owners and bring him back asap if you can each time he turns up.

No JOR has been out but with us supervising,  he has only been out a handful of times usually on a sunny weekend.  Gery was absolutely fine,  I picked him up and he is all groomed and chubby,  I will phone the new owners again today and also phone the vet and try and get the to see JOR to see if he can be done earlier as he has grown so much they may be more agreeable.

I think, if it was me, Id phone my vet and see what advice they had to give re the neutering of Ripley.  See if its possible to bring it forward ....

I think that it takes a little while after that for the hormones to settle down and the "male cat" vibes to stop - but at least its a step in the right direction

It does sound as if Gerry might be back to "sniff out" rivals ....

I will be thinking of you - not an easy situation

I dont know if you many of you know but about 20 months ago one of my cats called Gerry Scissor Paws went missing,  we put all posters up etc but to no avail,   about 3 months later we got a phone call from the vets saying they had Gerry (details from his chip) and I went and collected him,  it turns out that he had wandered off and had been living with a lovely couple about a mile away,  they didnt realise that he might be someones cat they thought he was a stray but their daughter said to take him to the vets to be scanned etc and that how we got him back.   Anyway when we got him back we kept him in for 2 weeks going through the whole intro thing again etc etc and as soon as he got out he went straight back to the people that had been feeding him a mile away,  this happened a few times so after much heartbreak we decided that Gerry should 'offically' become their cat and we changed the chip details etc etc,  I do visit him occasionally and he is always really happy and his new owners love him to death.    Things have moved on at our house as you know we now have Ripley, Gerry had also never seen Picalli and Ruby Red Pants as they were born after he left,  but last night Gerry turned up at the window crying to come in our house,  I phoned his new owners and although they were out to dinner they werent aware of any problems with Gerry and had indeed seen him about 2 hours before curled up on their bed.  I didnt let Gerry in but I went out into the garden to see him and he was all hisses and growls but let me fuss him,  as soon as another  cat came anywhere near he went absolutely crazy.  (even the cats he used to live with),  I went in the house and waited for a while,  went back outside and he had gone.  This morning I get up and Gerry is there again doing exactly the same,  wanting attention from me but being really vicious with the other cats.   I dont know why he has come back,  dont get me wrong I am pleased to see him,  but he isnt our cat anymore and he really is upsetting the others.  Maybe it is because he can smell another male cat (Ripley) on his old territory and he has come back to see ??,   Ripley is due to be done at the end of this month maybe I should get him done earlier than that ? (he was born in May) but the vet did say he would rather do it nearer 6 months as he was so tiny,  so my problem is I need to stop Gerry coming to the house.  Any suggestions ??,  it is all a bit surreal at the moment.
