Perseus was back in 2004 .....

I think in this case you just have to accept it happened - and even if you had got up ....

I did at one point, when the  vet checked, hope that maybe the cat we had found still had a spark of life in her

Then I thought about her injuries  :'(  She would have had to be put down anyway ....  or been very, very badly disabled .....  (you really dont wont to know details )

Its better she went quickly - and thats probably the same for the poor little soul you found.

I was extremely upset, I wish I had got changed and went out looking for it.

Oh, you poor love!!

Dont blame yourself - if I went out of here for evey noise in the street .....

When our little cat, Perseus, was killed on the road here, he must have been injured first and trying to get home ....

You know, we searched and searched but couldnt find him - couldnt even HEAR him  :'(

Finally, a neighbour in another block of flats found him outside her door - I think hed been confused .....

My point is - even if you had gone out, you still might not have found the cat  at the time ..... :(

I am so sorry to hear about Perseus - that must have been so difficult.

That cat was literally 20m away from me though, but your right, it would have been very difficult to suss out where the cry had actually come from at the time and i live on the beach too so it could have been anywhere.  I don't even know if there is anything that I could have done.

Sadly, there was a cat killed outside my flat a couple of weeks ago - I heard a cat cry just as I was crawling into bed but I never heard a car.  I thought it had sounded like a cat in pain but couldn't really tell as we have a lot of cats fighting with each other in my area.  There's no way I could tell where it was coming from either but it just cried twice then it went silent.  So I went to bed.  Next morning, there was a poor wee cat lying at the side of the pavement - I think it died very quickly.   I was extremely upset, I wish I had got changed and went out looking for it.

I was the same. I was horrified and grossed out but just went onto autopilot. When I picked OH up at the station straight after and said there was a dead cat in the back of the car he was horrified but when I said I couldn't just leave it there for others to drive over or for kids to find, he agreed. I even got some blood on me but told myself it was no different to touching a piece of beef.

Sweetie when Bunty and Poppy went missing in the past if they had happen to them what this poor cat had happened to them and someone found them and took them to a vet and I got Poppy or Bunty home even though I'd be upset I would have been eternally grateful to the person who found them and brought them home to me as this is what you did

What you did was so brave

I'm glad her owners were found. It's sad enough when something like that happens, but I think the idea of someone wondering where their little one has gone is awful.

RIP Little One.

I've only just seen this and I'm sorry you were so upset. Thank you so much for caring enough to take her to a vet to be scanned. At least her owners will never have the pain and anguish of looking for a cat that will never come home. When my darling Luna was hit by a car, my partner was the one who found her just minutes after the accident. She died almost instantly but at least we were able to get her to a vet. It was the worst feeling I have ever had and I just collapsed and cried when our vet told us Luna had gone. I can't imagine how much worse it would have been had she been missing for days only for us to find her dead after all that searching. I'm so glad there are kind and caring people out there like you Wibblechick, who are willing to take the time to ensure a family are not left never knowing what happened.

So sorry Chris - did the vet say he would let you know if they got in touch with the owner throught the chip - you will feel like you've done something good then.

You was so brave.  When I had to go pick Smudge up after a phone call I received I stood there with him in my arms and screamed so loud that all of Yorkshire must've heard me.

The owner will be so greatful for what you did.

Sent you some more pics last night - the ones of Chloe and Charlie's engagement :Luv2:

Just seen this WC.  Can't read all replies as so upset for you and girl cat's owners.

Am sure someone will have already said but what you must concentrate on is that the owners know what happened and will not be constantly looking and hoping for her to turn up which I always think is torture.  You did a very very good thing and I hope you know it

I went to pick up my son who had been away on a school trip, Friday at 11 PM. I saw a little body on the road and stopped, asked my son to get out and put it aside. He could not lift the body  :'(
It's always horrible, you were very brave to take it to a vet

You did well WC and pleased the cat was chipped and hasnt become one of the lost and missing for many years

Afraid I still cant get out of my head one that was lying on the side of the M4 and I was stuck in a slow moving jam that would suddenly speed up.

I was sat right where it was, think someone had put it at back of hard shoulder. Just as was thinking I wonder if I could get out and look, a car came flying down the hard shoulder and I would probably have been killed if I had got out.

I had to stop at the service station cos was too upset to drive and couldnt see.

This was a nearly 3 years ago and I can still see the poor cat lying there, pretty certain it was dead but couldnt get there to see.  :(

Sorry WC

Its horrible and I was in the same boat a few weeks ago. You did a great thing as at least the owners can have some closure and also decide what to do with their baby's body
It is upsetting though  :'(

Thank you

Just posting about it helps - and thankfully the friend I was with feels the same as me - it was the last thing we could do for her, poor little soul

If only we had found her a little earlier - but on the other hand perhaps ita as well - the vet said death would have been almost instantaneous.

And such a caring vet .

We found her (the cat) opposite Kempton park Race course - just in case anyone out there knows anything about her

We couldnt just leave her there  :'(

And I can detach this from the rest of the day .....

Maybe, just maybe, we were sent to find her and I take some comfort that her owner wont be left never knowing what happened ....

Talk away im hear,  its a horrible thing to see but a sad fact im afraid, hopefully this little one was killed instantly and didnt suffer and well done for caring enough to forget your pain and distress and taking her t the vets, at least her owners will know whats happened rather then just wondering

far far better that she was killed and not horribly injured - better for you too

and someone somewhere will get very bad news, but at least they will know

and that is thanks to you - loads of people wouldn't have bothered with her, so you can dry those tears, missus, and feel proud of yourself

 :'(

Coming back from Avebury tonight, we found a cat who had been the victim of a hit and run

She was at the side of the road.  Must have been killed instantly

We knew it was too late, but took her to an emergency vet we found

She had massive head injuries

And she had been chipped, so someone somewhere will get some horrible news

And I'm sitting here sobbing my hear out

Anyone want to talk to me ?

Im not going to be able to sleep  :'( :'( :'( :'(
