Lexy not an angel anymore

I am sure she has got used to the place now and demands to be treated as she expects, which will not include meds

As long as she gets better and they are looking after her and she is doing all that is necessary, thats all for the best......get that claw out Lexy  ;D

 :thanks:

Lexy is, how can I put this delicately, ahem..well known in the hospital  :naughty:  There is a label on her pen titled "care" now. She's stopped being an angel. Oddly enough she makes her feelings known when they have to medicate her.  :evillaugh:  Her claws have been clipped so she can't injure the nurses  :evillaugh: Aunty T if you read this, Lexy's Claw has been put to good use  :naughty:

She has a catheter in her leg to give her the ABs. So apart from that she looks fine, normal, and was purring away for me and cuddling with me.  :Luv2:

For now all is good. She wouldn't let me see her leg but that's ok  :Luv2:

Food, water, poop and pee all normal!!

So will see her tomorrow again. For now, all ok.

Poor you and poor Lexy but it sounds like she is in good hands now, or will be from monday when the specialist takes charge. I hope that it all works out for her and you'll have good news next week.  At least you can go and see her every night which I'm sure is a big comfort to you both x

I'll be seeing Lexy tonight. She's going to stay there for the rest of the week until Monday. The specialist surgeon who did the first surgery is going to be there on Monday. He's apparently the european top guy on orthopaedics. Anyway, he's going to assess. For now there are different options, but their key goal is to see if we have a sterile infection (which means the implants must be removed) or a tissue infection which means we don't.

Overall, she's comfortable, eating her meals like a good girl and giving the medical staff her claw now and again. Clearly showing her frustration. So I'll go see her every night so that she gets some comfort.

I actually did sleep last night. I'm just tired from not having to cleann up after her (if that makes sense)  :evillaugh:

Anyway, thank you to all of you, and to my two special mates who sent me lovely emails, one wiv der paw ter leans on  ;)

Lexy is on 3 antibiotics at the moment to tack any and all infections. My little girl is taking them intravenously. She's quiet and closed up in her little medical cell, under a blanket in her igloo.   :(

I'm struggling to keep it together knowing she must be hating every minute of being there right now. I'll know more later on the flushing.

what a nightmare

but the 3 abs will no doubt be making Lexy very drowsy so she probably isn't as stressed as you Ruth

:thanks: everyone and  :thanks: to everyone who has sent a PM. I haven't had a chance to reply to all yet.

I just spoke to vets. They will flush the joint at around 3pm. They are not going to commit to any surgery until the culture is back on the last swab test. The type of treat will depend on that result and the head surgeon will be the one to make the final call on what they do. They want to save the knee and the leg to ensure that Lexy regains full use of it. At this stage they cannot say either way.

I got a call from the vet, they are giving her antibiotics intravenously at the moment to aggressively tackle the infection.

They're going to wait until morning to reassess. If they can, they want to save the implants and try to make this work. Their fear is that infection has made it into her cartiledge and that may mean that her use of this leg will be greatly reduced once this settles down. If they can avoid surgery they will as we go back to square one.

For now Lexy is comfortable and resting.

I'm off for a while, am exhausted and will expect another sleepless night.

Thanks everyone for your support.

There is infection in the knee, she stayed with them to do a haematology and she will have surgery first thing tomorrow to remove the implants.

Infection has to be eliminated which could take up to 4 weeks.

Then we go next steps.
