definately worth a vet check, my friends cat was doing this and it was put down as behavioural and turned out to be bladder cancer - not trying to scare you but its always worth checking first

Doing it in one spot doesn't mean it isnt medical, they tend to use one spot due to the smell. Cystitis is quite often stres related, so if he is bothered by being kept in, it could bring on cystitis.

we're trying to catproof the garden but it's costly so it's taking a while. Bought a high fence today so that should be up soon.

Yes we had problems with the neighbour. She stopped taking him in now, but I've had 3 phonecalls in a week that he's in someone's house or the pub down the road lol & won't leave & I've had to fetch him. He's not going out until we've got the fence up.

The newspaper didn't stop him, he just buried under it to wee on the carpet That makes me think it's not medical cos it's always in the same spots, will go to the vets anyway to get him checked out.

I've sprayed the whole hall with the cleaner & deterrent spray, it stinks but hopefully will stop him.

From memory this member has issues with the neighbour interfering with the cat so in trying to prevent this the cat has got upset.
Extra trays and cleaning the area throughly are important aswell as a vet check to make sure all is ok.

Has he ever been to the vets over it - if he will poo in his tray but not wee, cystitis should be ruled out.

We've had to keep him indoors as he keeps wandering off & getting lost so it might be his way of saying he's not happy about staying in.

 

I think thats your answer - If you are worried about him wandering off when he's outside, could you cat proof the garden so he doesnt roam out of it?

and of course microchpping him is a good idea if he is prone to wander in case he manages to get out!

There are other things to bear in mind.
Some cats do not like to poo and pee in the same litter tray so maybe using a second one will help? How old is he - has he been castrated? Six months is the best age to castrate and will reduce wandering and any spraying inclinations.
Sometimes soiling in inappropriate places is down to territorial scent marking, and the hall being an entry point is often targetted

thanks for tips. I'm off to pets at home today so will get a bottle to try.
I've covered the whole hall with newspaper which will hopefully stop any further damage til I get the spray.

You will need to get rid of the smell completely otherwise they keep going back to "top up" the smell. You can get various cat urine removes that actually "eat" the proteins in cat urine - they have friendly bacteria & enzymes in. One you can get easily is "Simple solution" from Pets at Home. Hopefully that will be enough to do the trick. Otherwise spraying Feliway on the area should help as well. One brand of urine remover says it also contains something to stop them reoffending - it's called Urine-off. Bear in mind that if there is a stain, the wee area will have spread to a larger size underneath. A lot of them claim to remove the stain as well but I don't think they remove stains completely - at least not on wool carpet. http://petfoodwarehouse.co.uk/browse_343

It actually works out cheaper if you have an ongoing problem as this needs to be diluted.

Might be better to try simple solution first.

Once it is sorted, if possible, putting a litter tray in the area often helps. It stopped mine peeing behind the TV 

Another idea is to put the food in that area as they are unlikely to pee near a feeding area. Not always practical and doesn't always work. I know how frusrating it can be as one of ours has ruined thousands worth of carpets and curtains.

Our cat has started weeing on our hall carpet, he's ruined it as it smells so bad & is really stained 
His litter tray is in the hall & I keep it clean for him. He will poo in the tray.

Any advice on how to get him to stop? I work from home with people coming to my home so it's not nice that the hall stinks of cat wee
