Tell us something we dont already know!

Our Staffie was actually an american pitbull but was passed off as a Staffie by the rescue, they said nobody would of wanted him other wise

He was a lovely dog with humans but would kill any animal he saw, he even went for horses

I know in all cases its the owners to blame, but I do believe once the dog has got to a stage as in the article there is not much else that can be done and the dog should be "removed"

They have something bred into them which will never be removed

If the dog belongs to someone it shouldn't be left running round a park it should be kept on a lead.

That article is really saddening, as are the hideous comments after it.

I personally feel the dog should be caught and taken off the current incompetent "caring" for it. With a dog like a staffy there are people that have endless patience retraining or ensuring it isn't allowed near another animal unless they're in control.

RIP, poor cat.

i too have to say its the deed not the breed, staffies are really gentle by nature, a child is more likely to get bitten by the family labrador because of the assumption its a soft gentle lump, animal to animal agression is NOT the same as animal to human agression, i myself witnessed a greyhound chase and kill a cat not that long ago, yet when caught it was very affectionate towards people i still love the breed and would have one if i didnt have chinchillas, this particular staffie obviously has a high prey drive and has been taught to chase by its fluffyfeet for a owner, probably for lamping

I weas bought up staffordshire bull terriers and teethed on Torque our brindle boy!

Its not the animal who starts out this way its the owners who make them like that

I for one am sick of kids in the vet wanting to stroke the dogs or check out the cat boxes and their parents thinking I should let them lift the towel on a cri=ush cage to let their darling see the nice cat - in my ferals case not bloody likely

I for one have 3 dogs I trust - they don't chase the cats all have had very badly inflicted claw marks in their faces and now treat the cats with repect - in Sunny and Sky's cases their best friends barring each other are feral cats!

I never leave kids unattended in my house as I don't trust them what ever the age not to poke, prod or steal the dogs or cats toys as a game!

It works all ways my animals are inflicted on children and as such would like folks with 2 footed to respect my first telling that your kids can't touch - some adults always know better - with my animals they don't!

Yes Den I know we used to have a Staffie!

I currently have a cat that will kill anything smaller than himself although he doesnt go for my rabbits which are free running. I know its all about ownership but you cant say a dog would never go for children, if the prey drive is so strong thats something that COULD happen.

Personially I would prefer to protect my children from a savage free running dog than the dog itself!

What if a child had of been in the way as the dog rushed into the house? Im sorry but the dog has shown by its behaviour that it needs to be taken out of harms way, its savage and no matter how much training it gets it wouldnt take that out of it!

Grrr I had a long reply but lost it and don't have time to write it again.

In short - a cat is very much a prey animal to dogs. Much like a rabbit. Just like cats and mice. Many dogs are either well trained or have no prey drive towards cats. Having a strong prey drive does not make a dog a risk to humans .. Just to small animals. A dog like this should NOT live with cats or be loose. But with decent ownership and training they can be rehabilitated or managed in a way to not be a risk to cats and small animals. It does not mean they have to be PTS. Dogs know the difference between animals and humans but if it attacks another dog or animal it does not mean it will do it to a human. Staffies are actually very good with children - by like any dog don't leave hem alone.

Im sorry Den but not every dog is child friendly, not dogs like this! And if its as savage as described I wouldn't want it running round near my kids

So Im taking it this dog is left to roam by itself? any dog that came into my house like that would be killed itself!
