I am owned by 4 Bengals and 2 moggies and TBH I think you should give Evie and Ava plenty of time to settle and get over their ops etc.  I noticed that you are looking for a retired Bengal queen - have you researched the Bengal breed carefully?  A retired queen could come with behavioural problems.

There are other breeds that are more dog like but would fit better with 2 existing cats, have you checked cat chats pedigree rescue page? You can find most breeds with a rescue these days  :(

http://www.catchat.org/adoption/pedigree.html

I have a lovely ginger mog for rehoming who is just like a dog (the size of some too  :evillaugh: ) but he doesnt do other cats very well  :tired:
Hes awesome with people, loves to play in the garden, he chases and catches but doesnt fetch yet

tbh I love bengals and have one myself but I do know a lot of people who have them that are disappointed that they aren't lap cats, Tilly likes affection on her own terms but cannot be held for very long without getting very stressed - she does have the naughty and noisy gene though!

I want a bengal cos they are much more like dogs in their behaviour, very active and need the constant stimulation.  OH like the wild cat look.  and we already have our lap cats, so the search will continue, but they will have to be the right cat and fit in with out two girls.

he is slowly caving!!  He has 'named' them both, Evie is Chips, cos she kept stealing his chips, and Ava is 'Gremlin'

Noooooooo

Eva and Evie are such beautiful names.....
and now that both cats are staying they can keep their names too  :evillaugh:

well done Evie and Ava - and you too, of course

a lone male in a house full of females stands no chance, and he might as well find that out sooner rather than later :evillaugh:

he was putty in their paws, he said they both could stop.  His decision honest. nothing to do with their cutsy routine this afternoon.  Have to get rid/rehome 2 tanks of fish though :( but one had to stop active until his babies have grown, they were only spit out today so I have a while yet.  As to the bengal, she is not coming, the owner will not allow a trial period :(

Bengals are very active cats, most people keep them as housecats due to the risk of being stolen, but if so, they need a lot of stimulation to stop them being destructive - and they are prone to things like overgrooming if they dont get enough stimulation. Sometimes they aren't good with moggies due to the differing activity levels.
Please spay your cat

from what I have been reading, it depends on which generaltion you are getting, as to how they are to be housed etc.  the closer to the wild they are, obvioulsy they have different requirements.  Many of the young bengals available now are rather domesticated, although hyper, compared to other domesticated cats :evillaugh:

I always though Bengals were completely unsuitable as house cats - though I have seen photos of them in a specially built enclosure full of climbing frames and trees

Bengals are hard work and they are a very special breed to look after and not one to take on lightly without a lot of homework

Just work on your OH - we were stopping at 20 - with some losses included we are currently at 42 and their pets the 3 dogs!

Mine adores teh cats and folks are surprised that he talks to all the cats in the kitchen, hall and family room and then the upstairs crew and then comes down and say evening to me and the lounge cats and the doggies!

I started with 2 the founders of the Clan Cats 17 years ago met OH 15 years ago and it sort of blossomed from there - he adores teh cats especially as the majority of ours are now ferals in varying stages of domestication or not, MY OH also let me keep the rescue raggie we were fostering and then there were the ones nobody would take on - our baby Archie died in July at 1 none of his existing issues but a new one but he had a wonderful year with the Clan and I don't regret taking him on he was a little angel

Time is a great thing but if all else fails go for bribery!

We have 20 house cats the rest are indoor/outdoor so yes its more than possible to have house cats! ;)

Sorry misread your other post but agree she knows nothing about cats and there is no reason why they cant be house cats only as long as they have a companion(each other)  and lots of play  ;D

give it to her they are neutered, just not vacced or insured, then she complains about vet bills when her tom gets beaten up and infected.

Oh word according to her, I can't have them as house cats either, its cruel, but they can live in our out house (shed that runs along side the house) with all the paint grass fertiliser and weed willer.  for 7 years I thought she knew about cats, I am really starting to wonder!

I would let him just continue mumbling and groaning and just keep smiling at him.  While he is wittering you need to work on the girls and get them nice and calm, relaxed and loving .... I'm sure once they both settle down and start to work their kitty magic on him he will cave in

thing is we work all day and see this as a way of having company whilst we are out.

I don't know how him mum can speak, she earns less than us and has 2 cats, neither are vacced or insured, so I really don't see what her problem is!

Im digging my heels in on this one!

I think a pair are usually best and they are probably close so not nice to split them I was saying the other day I heard of two cats who had lived together (unrelated) but 1 got a home and then was returned for some reason but when they saw how happy they were to be reunited they just couldn't split them then, tell OH that  ;) and I agree with Gill - if you can afford it.

If OH says you can't afford it and can only have 1 I'd get one that has to be an only cat.

Theres no point insuring her if she 100% has to go as the first 14days cant be claimed on, hopefully your OH will break, 2 isnt much more than 1  ;)

OH mum knows of someone :(

OH mum key to this I think, he didn't even think about rehome til she mentioned it grrrrr.

Stopping with me for at least 2 weeks, I want to make sure she recovers well.

Think I will start a running tally, no one wants to pay for a cat, and flipping heck they both need so much done!

Neither have had vaccs, plus spay, and vet checks, fleas :)  this list will be a mile long!!

OH making me stick to my decision!!
« Reply #1 on: August 12, 2009, 15:03:36 PM »
I have 2 weeks to turn this around!!

When Evie and Ava came to us, I was always of the mind that Ava would be rehomed to a nice new family, once spayed.

That was until she actually came to us.  Dispite all the hormones, hissing, spitting and squabbling (hormones again) with her Daughter. Ive fell in love.

I have done the figures (before they both came) and I know I can afford for both to stay, but OH is making me stick to the rehoming decision.  They are being spayed and microchipped tomorrow, I am taking out insurance for them (as have all my rabbits).  I also have back up funds should I need instant access.

I really don't want to split this lovely mother and daughter up.
