It was working before but looks like they removed it  >:(

Here's another one http://www.theyworkforyou.com/debates/?id=2009-07-08a.989.0

I like his point about them making excuses like "old people might trip over a pet" - as he points out, they might trip over a chair, so does that mean we ban chairs as well?  :-:

My Nana is 91 this month and lives with her daughter who owns two curly haired labradors... they knock her about but she doesn't mind as long as they don't steal her chocolate.

Glad to see this bill going through.

Also the two dogs both visit hospitals and care homes to the enjoyment of all.

I am not anti old people so please take this as its intended.....Old people trip over, that IS a fact....and a pathetic excuse as Im sure as these are their pets they will already be used to having a pet around!

This is the first I've heard of this bill. I whole heartedly support it. Both my mum and my aunt are now in care homes and both homes allow pets in principle. I am aware, though, that this isn't always the case. How heartbreaking to have to leave a beloved companion behind. Or, worse, have it pts because it is old itself.

I dealt with a lady last year that was going into sheltered housing. She asked us to rehome as her vet has refused to PTS. Her logic was that nobody could love her cat as much as her so she thought it would be best to PTS  :( - This was a cat that used to visit all the local shops and the library in a small town near here. In the end, the son of the local funeral directoe homed the cat.

Some may also remember when I was annoyed last year as the manager of the local hospice shop was really snotty when I asked if she would put up an A5 flyer offering free neutering.

what about dogs though? you couldn't have a dog confined in each small flatlet, probably barking their heads off

and cats used to going outside would be a problem too - but I do wholeheartedly agree there should not be a blanket refusal to take all pets

It would be great if this went through and would take away the misery  of having to leave a beloved pet behind,, which O am sure kills some prematurely

Back in the late 70s/early 80s I worked in a Residential Home for Psycho-Geriatrics.

We had two cats who were much loved and cuddled constantly

They were spoiled rotten with treats, always had competition for whose bed they would sleep on, but sometimes were unfairly blamed for puddles by incontinent Residents  :evillaugh:

My MIL works in a nursing home and they have a cat called Bluebell which is absolutely adored by all the residents,  it would be lovely if they could take their own animals in x
