the vet rang and said Pep's T4 is down to 84 which is good from what it was but still not good, she is aiming between 30 and 50. She said we could change him to Felimazole which she prefers but after a bit of a discussion decided to stick to Vidalta as he is doing ok on that - just a bit of a pain to pill. I asked about the dental and she said that he needs bloods re-doing next month and once bloods are at the right level she wants him stable for a month or two before doing the dental. If need be he can have some more abs, so good news but still a bit of a wait

Vet is going to ring through the results after 4 today. His blood pressure and heart were fine and his weight has gone up from 2.95 to 3 kg so that is good. He was lapping up all the attention and being fussed

but we've only been in 10 mins and he's nearly got his little plaster off already

Thanks I am hoping, he has been a pain to pill and has missed a few or they have started to dissolve by the time I've managed to get them into him. On the whole though have managed most of them and he seems to have gained some weight and is eating a bit less now so fingers crossed.

Taking Pepper for thyroid bloods tomorrow morning, hopefully it will have come down, T4 was <200 (should be about 50) a month ago and he needs it to come down to have his dental.

I remember when i brought Jim home i couldnt believe that a tin cat with no teeth could eat so much and he also made this funny noise like a little pigy when he ate his favourites i guess its the excitement of yummi food.
If Pepper is on Felimazole 5mg i have some here which i could send him.

He is still on Vidalta Pav, he'll be reviewed in 3 weeks, thanks very much though

I think they are working well too because he feels to be getting fatter already and his coat is looking heathier.

Hopefully as they are going down whole he will stabilse quickly, he will feel so much better without his manky teeth

Trigger, I agree as soon as I saw the saliva last night I knew he needed seeing asap

You're right Rosella, the thyroid affects everything in the body so it has to be stabilzed

He's taken his tablet in some turkey I have cooked and he nearly choked on the noises he made he enjoyed it so much

I do cut everything up small or mash his food though but because he has a such a big appetite I think he just puts up with the discomfort, hopefully not for too long though

Thyroid probs do give misleading results for all manner of things and really confused me about Tom's real problems last year.

The vet had a look in Pepper's mouth and said that his teeth need sorting and he has an especially bad tooth on the left which has pus and blood. She said he needs a dental but the thyroid levels must come down first and that could take between 1 - 3 months unless his teeth really start to bother him excessively. She said she actually prefers felimazole because she finds it stabilizes the thyroid quicker with Vidalta it can take a while to get the right level and felimazole only usually takes a couple of adjustments. (His notes from the other vet do say though that if this doesn't work in 1 month to put on felimazole). She said his back legs are also stiff and his kidneys borderline over but that could be because of his thyroid and also his heart was racing but no murmer, again the thyroid. So he has 1 wks antirobe and to go back for thyroid levels checking in 1 month. So fingers crossed he can have the dental soon because I know he'll be so much better for it. The vet thought he was lovely he was very good boy and she cuddled him for ages and he loved it
