Thanks - He had a comfortable night  :Luv2:

It was obviously mouth pain stopping him eating and there was no nausea as he ate for England last night. He also came down for a drink of water this morning. (even though he has a bowl in the bedroom)

OH refuses to believe it is cancer. One of the problems is the vet said the Metacam jab was a one-off - so it's a case of quality of life. I trust James so will follow his lead.

I know everyone else has said it, but try not to worry.  When Jerry Maquire first came to me he had to have a lump removed from his mouth that was cancerous.  That was probably three years ago and he has been fine ever since, no re-occurrence and the only sign he is slightly different is that his right top fang shows more than his other teeth.

Will have everything crossed for Clapton. :crossed:

Mark  to you Dennis and the crew

Our Miss G had a tumour and vets said a couple of weeks she went a whole further 9 months - she was 18 and we gave her steroid injections on a weekly basis this kept her appatite going and she had a lot of liquidised food but had a happy lfe till she looked at us and then we knew

Lets hope its just an infection and the Clapton will be ok

Don't you just love Metacam.

I can add my name to the list of those told by the vet that their cat had mouth cancer (Gandolf).  He lasted another 3 years on ABs for mouth problem with pain meds on and off as required and died age 19.  You are wise to say Ruth is wise Mark.  I really don't know why vets feel forced to worry the life out of us by giving worse case scenario before tests are carried out.  Having said that, I think I always ask what the worse case is  :-[

Obviously sending all good wishes for Clapton for tomorrow  but meanwhile am so happy that he has had pain relief  :)

Hope is not too serious and they can treat him . x

They should do yes, as there is still the risk of being sick with the sedation. Might not need to be starved for as long though. Poor Clapton, his mouth is obviously why he has been looking unhappy, and I do hope it is just a nasty infection - Sam has mouth ulcers despite having no teeth at all, so maybe it is a nasty ulcer.

Fingers crossed the vet is wrong, and once he has had a proper look it is something treatable. I hope you can get him to eat a decent amount tonight, did the vet warn you about starving him for the sedation?

I know this is a bit rich coming from me, but do try to be positive and not to think the very worst.  I was told Swampy had fibrosarcoma from a vet feeling a lump and he didn't, he just had a lump. It could just be an infection in Clapton's mouth and antibiotics will work and I hope so very much that it is. My vet once told me Swampy maybe had a cancerous lump in his mouth and he didn't - it was an infection from his horrible teeth.

Give my friend Clapton a big cuddle. He is so beautiful, that's the world's greatest moustache

Just to report before I have my nap that I went looking for Clapton and he was in his food area in the hallway  :Luv2: - He ran into the kitchen and was hovering and started to hide until I went to the cat larder. He couldn't get to the bowl quick enough to have his RC with lots of water added  :Luv2: - I know it is the metacam helping him but I'm sure he will feel better with a full belly and a nap  :Luv2:

I will try to chill but it is totally not in my nature anyway  :evillaugh:

I will try to remain positive and focus on things like the fact that the vet asked if I am OK to hang around for a few hours.

I suppose there are worse ways to spend a Wednesday afternoon than at the seaside (the vet is a 3 minute walk from Herne Bay seafront)

Just to add that I had considered it being cancer since yesterday morning but didn't want to be premature with my amateur diagnosis.

I'm hoping it is something treatable but also think that the vet wouldn't have mentioned C if he didn't think there was a possibility?

Theres always a possibility of finding a tumour but theres every chance he could have a nasty infection, they say it to cover themselves i think.
When Lola went funny every vet i saw was going on about carcinoma, things can turn out ok

Is it possible for a cat with no teeth to get an absess?

I'm hoping it is something treatable but also think that the vet wouldn't have mentioned C if he didn't think there was a possibility? - its all so confusing. I know OH will phone soon to check so I will just say for now that he couldn't get a proper look. It's not fair for OH to face the journey home. He loves Clapton to bits. I might see if OH can clear his diary tomorrow and come with me.

James advised removing all food for now and just leave water out. He said if I reintroduce food tonight, there is a better chance he will eat than if the  smell of food was around all the time.

I asked if Clapton was dehydrated. He said he is but not hugely so unlikely that he hasn't been drinking at all - he said he must have been having sneaky laps here & there  :Luv2:

James came with a nurse - I didn't ask any questions.

Clapton put up such a fight and I have never seen him so terrified. The vet said his heart is racing and he was obviously in a lot of pain. He said from the outside, you can see Clapton's mouth is swollen. He tried to open Clapton's mouth a few times but said it was upsetting and hurting him too much - he wants Clapton in tomorrow morning to have a proper look under sedation but he said he has a feeling it is a growth  :( - He said he will know for sure tomorrow but if there is one, he will take a biopsy but that mouth cancers are usually very aggressive and there isn't much they can do. He said I should know worse case as he doesn't have a good feeling although he would like to be wrong :'(

So he has taken a chance and give Clapton a  Metacam and an Antibiotic jab.

 :'(

I am trying to remain optimistic and have asked for his claws to be trimmed while he is sedated.
