I collected my boy's ashes today, I had no idea what to expect, but they are in a lovely wooden casket with a plaque on the top with Max's name engraved

I was OK for a while, but as soon as I bought him through the door I got really upset for a few minutes

My boy is back where he should be, at the moment he's on the shelves he always wanted to play on, but was never allowed. I thought I'd let him have a look up there after all

I know what you mean. I actually fluctuated between being really happy that Toby had been loved as much as he had with us, and feeling miserable I didn't get to give him cuddles and show him I still did love him.

With Parsley it was such a rapid situation I just ended up crying for days because the shock was immense.

Glad you can look at his films without getting sad; I think it's wonderful that you've got something like that to remember him by.

He always was a big strong boy, bit of a bruiser really

Put it this way, you knew if you'd annoyed him

I can smile about him now, which I didn't think would be possible - I was watching some videos on my phone earlier and didnt cry, it was so lovely looking at him before he became ill, which was realistically only the last 2 weeks of his life, and it was wonderful to see him when he was happy, healthy, and so obviously enjoying his life, which is an enormous comfort to us as we know that for 9 years, we did good

The numbness fades, honestly Clare. You don't stop missing them but you start to smile again when you think about them after a while.

The only tell tale sign that he was ill was his skinny back end, he was almost concave as he lost so much weight so quickly, so when he was standing up you could see it. When he was lying down he looked just fine

My baby boy, I can't believe its a week since I let you go, its funny, I've been going to work, doing all the usual things I would do, but none of it, absolutely none of it, is the same without my Mr Max doing it with me
