what a difference being in a place with the very latest equipment and techniques makes - I am sure they will get to the bottom of Lola's problems

but your insurance company is going to have kittens

Phonecall this morning was better (english vet this time who speaks slow enough for me to register info lol)

I now understand that its the pneumothorax that caused her breathing difficulties, the escaped air was putting alot of pressure so she couldnt fill her lungs properly.
They now need to find out what caused the air to leak in the first place, the leak needs time to heal over before they can investigate under a GA so shes staying in to be kept an eye on and another x ray later.
She will have a bronchoscopy done when they are happy the leak is healed or else things are more likely to go wrong once shes under :scared: they will also do a wash for cells to check for infection and will take samples if necessary.

He said she had a good night and externally her breathing now looks normal  ;D fingers crossed the next x ray is better still and she can have her camera work done

Glad the vet is thinking it might be an allergic response rather than heart/liver failure. Hope she has had a good night and you can bring her home today. What a shame the clinic dont deal direct with the insurance company though, the specialist Tiger saw did (but she did say they were constantly owed thousands waiting for the claims to be paid) - there was a clause that if the insurance didn't pay up within 60 days you had to pay.
Please spay your cat

Hope Lola feels better soon and all goes well for you and her.
When i took Boy to RVC in Heartfordshire 2 years ago i was given two quote, one just for x-rays , ultrasounds, blood .....and then they said if they do a full biopsy and op it could be up to £2500. Had to sign a form but they didnt take any deposit .
Its comforting to know they have 24 h staff.

I can kind of understand why they do it, if the insurers wont pay certain bits then they may have trouble getting it out of the owners. I had to pay £200 as a deposit at vets now! I thought the fact they had my cat they would be seeing me again but i know they have had problems with people leaving animals and then not collecting  :(

I hate waiting on telephone calls  :sigh: :yawn 2:

These clinics are a pain and know if Franta had needed to go to Bristol it would have been the same.

Hope all goes well and maybe not as expensive as they have said

Wow! what a day! and what a worry, its so scarey that they can be fine one minute and then fighting for breath the next. It sounds more hopeful though, that its probably not heart/lung, wonder what could have provoked an allergic response like that? Here's hoping that Lola is feeling much better soon and you can get some answers.

It really scared me last night, she was fine, eating and fly hunting and then really struggling an hour later  :scared:
I have no idea how the allergic response works, i wonder if it could be more immune system then a pollen allergy type reaction, she was in all evening napping so wasnt breathing in any funny dusts etc  :-:

Geezzzzzzzzzz what a day for you and Lola. So pleased she seems to be improving and sending lots of good vibes for Lola

You have got insurance for her , dont you?
Yes i have thank god but this clinic requires the bill to be settled unlike AHT who when i enquired 2 years ago dealt direct with certain insurers.
Iv just requested a credit increase :wish: so i hope i get it or i will need to transfer savings asap

:thanks: iv had a very stressful day  :tired:

I heard from the emergency vet at 2.40 am and he was concerned with her x rays so emailed them to some expert in the USA for their opinion, they were also very concerned and reccomended a biopsy  :scared:
Her xrays were done again before i collected her this morning and they showed a small improvement.
Off to my vets who were also intrigued by her xrays, had no treatments to offer other than referal to Dick White clinic in Newmarket.
Mad dash to work to get everything done in half day and off to Newmarket we go, we were an hour late for the appointment as  :censored: google sent us the wrong way up the M11! Having missed our slot we had a good hour wait as 2 emergencies came in. 5pm by this time  :tired:
Was feeling really guilty at this point for taking her  :(

Finally got seen by a vet who has admitted her for bloods, imaging, chest drain, IV Ab's and possible surgery. Cue the tears in carpark for leaving her behind  :'( :'(

Got a phonecall not long ago saying the xrays they have done are better than this mornings  :) so he feels this could be some kind of allergic response rather than lung/heart failure. Shes having more oxygen therapy and started AB's, so until the morning i wont know anything else.
Its a really lovely clinic, lovely staff, clean and ultra modern  :wow:
The most shocking thing is the clinics quote, 2-3k  :hairrasin: :faint: :faint:

Positive vibes for Lola.

Our nervous girl sometimes breathes really quickly; it terrifies us and is something we watch out for with her. We think it's a panic attack with her though, she's scared of pretty much everything.
