As your encouraging to do it and hopefully regularly i would put a halfway height for him. Cats can jump the same as horses but look what too much of it does to horses legs  :(

Trouble and Cassie both jump the garden gate, about 6 ft frame to come between front and back gardens as only the back door has a cat flap. Trouble is 13 now and has no probs, that is onto concrete. If your cats are healthy I can't see a problem.

My Harry jumps from about that height - when he lets himself back into the 'cat-proofed' (?) area! onto paving.  :)

Our previous cat Henry used to jump from our 6 foot fence to the patio with no probs. In fact my Dad's cat is now 12 and still comes down their 6 foot fence, although she now runs down it instead of jumping!

Mine jump from tops of 6ft walls to get back into the garden-and they are fine with that  :)

I want to encourage Tosker to find his own way into my enclosure, as if he can come as well as go he might decide to hang around one day

so I thought I would leave some food out for him each night inside - to get to it he would have to jump 6 foot down on to hard paving

would there be any risk to him in doing this? he is around 2 years old, and obviously very agile
