Awwwwwwww Joey!!! :Luv2: :Luv2: I so want to cuddle him.  He does look a tiny little wisp bless him but looks so content in your arms and well loved.  I've just shown my Steve and he thinks he does look a little better than he did, I agree in that he hasn't got the ulcers now so must feel a bit better for that

Hi guys just a quick note to say I am about to upload some update pics of Joey we have just taken tonight and to say that I don't wish to upset anyone but I thought you may like to see Joey enjoying some meowmy time tonight and cuddling in so happy and content.

**** Please be aware though that some may find these images upsetting and for that I apologise.  Since the original photos and clearing his skin and sores a lot more hair has fallen away showing the true extent of his emaciated condition. ****

Hi guys, a big thank you and purr purr from Joey for all his well wishes and hugs.

Well today he has eaten but not a great deal.  This morning his little tootsies were red raw and covered in discharge.  We bathed his feet this morning in a salt bath (which I hated doing as it must've stung like crazy) but he was absolutely brilliant about it all.  Put some antiseptic powder on his feet and am glad to say that his feet havn't flared quite so much the rest of the day but I really don't want to get anyone's hopes up.

Having spoken things through today with Paul we feel that we will continue to see if we can get his feet under control but if we can't in the next 2 weeks then we will have to think very carefully about Joey's treatment, if any.   As much as it pains us to say so, this on top of his other problems it really wouldn't be fair to make him continue as it is only going to get worse from the point it is now and whilst it is manageable I would hate to see him in pain on top of everything else he has been and is going through.   :(   :'(  As I said the other day we will ensure above anything else that this old boy retains his dignity.

Will keep you posted.     :thanks:

He's such a wee fighter bless him.  I am sorry if I upset anyone last night I was writing as I was thinking and trying to work through things in my head.

Talking with Paul this morning we will just see how this week goes and take things from there.   We really appreciate everyone's support and for sharing thoughts and experiences.

Sarah, I always feel that vets have a different viewpoint than us, they dont always see the 'point' of us spending resources and time on a cat that might only have a short time, especially at the moment with so many cats needing a rescue space, but they aren't the ones living with the cats, they see them for a brief consultation, but we see more than that, so with really poorly cats, I always feel that our instincts are better than the vets. I personally would give him the chance for these jabs to work, as I think it is too early to decide he can't get better, and he might just surprise everyone and have lots of quality time. I am glad he had lots of chicken and cuddles. Does the person who was interested in him last week have other cats?

thanks Guys... your thoughts do help   :thanks:

It is just SO darn hard.  I think we both feel that despite the 'advice' from the vet we did the right thing in giving Joey a little more time to see what it brings.

I have agonised over it all afternoon since the vets and keep asking myself, have we done the right thing.  But for now, anyways I believe that the choice we made today was the right one.

Paul has been called out and I had the house to myself (well plus the 30+ furries!) and went in to sit with Joey tonight for an hour.  I took him in some freshly cooked chicken and mushy rice which he just devoured, sat petting him a while and took him out of his pen and onto my knee for BIG cuddles.  Do you know he thoroughly enjoyed it too.  It wasn't a moody, sad purr but a happy brisk purr.  he kneaded my knee and kept looking up at me with those loving little slanty eyes as if to say Thank you.  It just broke my heart really but made me all the more sure I did do the right thing today.

I gave him a really good once over AGAIN tonight just to make sure I'm not seeing things and his fur is starting to grow back where he was bald before (in places) his coat he has left has started to get a little 'shine' about it too.  His skin is still flaky and dry in places and his feet are probably the worst although the discharge from his feet has stopped since his injections this afternoon.  Vet did say that this could be related to Liver issues.

I think what I really need to work out for Joey's sake is if this is tumors / cysts on his liver or kidneys what will the next few months hold for him.  Likewise if he does only have a few weeks or months left is it really worth putting him through all the stress of blood tests and/or x-rays, etc to confirm something we probably already know the answer to??

I think for now, whilst he is obviously going to be uncomfortable on some level, especially with his feet we don't think / feel he is in a lot of pain and discomfort and certainly if he was I would very much doubt he would be as interactive, vocal or wolfing down food, especially chicken, at the great rate he has today.

We can only wait and see what the next few days will bring.  I believe that regardless Joey does not have long on this earth but we want to do the best by Joey and ensure that however long or short a time he has left, he is left with the dignity he was stripped off through his neglect.   :Luv:

Sarah, you're the one who's watched his progress so you're the best judge of whether there's been any massive difference or not. You said it was a different vet; there's no guaranteed the vet that saw Joey originally would've said what this vet did.

This second set of jabs might be just what he needs to look a lot better to other people too. It's a difficult one, but I think you've done the right thing if there's no obvious signs of suffering.
