I agree, Joey deserves every chance, as long as he's eating, drinking, and happy, then its a million times better than he was used to before, bless him  :Luv2:

What a really hard decision but as others have said you know him best and can compare him now to how he was when he first arrived.

you have to go with your best instinct here and reckon you know what is best for Joey

Sarah I remember being told by out vet when we adopted Bert and Moose what a pair of manky horrid looking cats - with time and love they both improved and had a loving home with doting parents and grandparents and above all we loved them for them

I'm sure your magic is working and where their is food being consumed and yours and pauls devoted care then I'm sure Joey may prove that there is life in the old boy yet - you will know when and iof the time is right and he is in the best place with you at the harbour

vets are there to cure disease and alleviate suffering, but they are not experts at giving love and care to an animal desperately in need of both

so I say you are the expert here, Sarah, and you should trust your own feelings about what is best for Joey

whatever the outcome, his last days/weeks/months are going to be a whole heap better than they would have been without you

Sarah, what a difficult decision. My personal feelings (not being a vet or seeing Joey) is that while you feel he is still enjoying life at all he deserves a chance. I know he is suffering to a degree (I can't guage how much) and perhaps the vet thinks he should be pts, but his life is prescious to him. Whatever you decide, I know you will have Joey's best interests at heart. I do feel for you.

I agree with Moira

Sarah,  like Moira says we dont have any idea if Joey is suffering,  but if he is seeming better than he was then I agree with what you have done to give him a chance,  I dont know and I am certainly not a vet but surely if he is eating,  purring and generally enjoying life then things maybe not as bad pain wise as you would think.

I most definitely would give him a chance,  maybe another two weeks to see what that holds for him,   this is his chance now for a life of love,  you really are doing the right thing Sarah,  but it must be really hard and we are all thinking of you and Joey

Do you have any updated pics ?,   I know we had pics a while ago but maybe we can see improvement ?

Also tell Joey he is a youtube star now and he needs to get better to greet his fans xxx

ok... for the 2nd time.....  (got timed out)  <sigh>

Hi folks, well we are just back from the vets with Joey.

It was a different vet that saw Joey today and we had a very hard time convincing her that he had improved despite his hellish (her words) appearance.

We accept that he does still look very bad but we also know that he is 100 times better than he was 2 weeks ago.  This vets first reaction was PTS however when we explained our viewpoint and the fact that he has improved 100% from what he was she has agreed that it is fair to give him a little more time and a repeat of his steroid and ab's and see what this holds for Joey.

On examination she did find what felt like growths in his abdomen which could be tumours and could relate to liver and or kidney problems.   Likewise the infection in his feet could relate to liver issues.

We are in a real quandry at the moment as this is such a difficult case to deal with.  Joey is full of fight loving his attention, eating pretty well and as bright as a button but is he suffering under all that?  are we doing the right thing giving him an extra chance and time and drugs?  or should we have just made the decision and PTS today because even if he does pull through any life he will have will be shortlived.  We feel very torn over today's decision.

We only want to do what is right and fair for Joey and whilst we know he has improved .....to others he still looks exceptionally bad.   :'(

thanks guys.  I really hope that we get some positive news today.  My friend was in yesterday who saw Joey earlier in the week and she felt that he was looking a little worse again too.  I'm SO worried about this little fella.  he really does deserve every chance at life for a 2nd time as he has been through so much.

He is a little fighter though and for as long as he continues to fight we will continue to help him to do so.   Please keep all fingers and paws crossed for Joey and I'll update when we are back this afternoon.  :wish:  :wish:

he certainly is trying though bless him.  We had some cooked chicken for the cats last night thanks to Lynds and we mushed it up with water and he almost swallowed the whole lot in a one'er... very funny and heartbreaking at the same time.

He is certainly a heart breaker though that is for sure. Everyone who has met him has fallen in love with him.  :Luv2:  Hopefully we may have a few more answers to his condition come Monday????

Joey is doing much the same at the moment guys.  He is currently enjoying the sun coming in the window and laying all out on his comfy bed.

I spoke to the vet today when in with another cat about Joey who was pleased that he has improved form what he was.  Our current plan is to give him another week to build himself up and then we'll get him back in for a check up with a view to potentially running bloods to check liver, kidney function and if its been impaired.

Will try and get some more piccies throught the week for you all.
