Joey must be in so much discomfort.  I am so glad he is there with you but why oh why weren't you called sooner?

Still, he's there now.  Gentle virtual hugs for Joey and support to you.

Mmmm, it's never easy with strays and the teeth indicator isn't an option.  Like you say I bet he is a dear old chap but looking older due to neglect  :(

in a word... not a clue!    we reckon he is a fair age but that said he may well be younger but because of the horendous state he is in, he may not actually be as old as we think.

I'd hate to put an age on him... and to be honest it would be very very difficult other than to say he is an old boy.  Normally teeth are a good indicator but as he doesn't have any it kinda rules that option out! :(

hi guys thats us just back from the vets with the old boy, who we have decided to call Joey.  :Luv2:

Vets feels that there are a number of things that 'could' be wrong with little Joey.  He is showing signs of having had throat lesions and most of his teeth have fallen away leaving behind some roots and open gums.  he also has an overhang.

Due to his skin problems and areas affected she feels that it could be an immune response and/or mites.   For now we have all agreed that it is best to try and make him comfortable and monitor him for the next couple of weeks and see how he improves now that he has good nutrition, basic care and medication.  All we can do is reassess constantly and hope that he improves and it is something that can be treated.

He has been treated with long acting a/b's and a steroid to try and help ease the itching and soreness of his skin and given treatment for mites just in case.  Hopefully this will make him more comfortable and he can get some much needed rest.  We will be feeding him little and often on soft food to help build him up again and I have some RC recovery food on order for him.

Hopefully he will be more comfortable later today.  He is still showing flu'y symptoms but that may or may not be the case and could be down to stress and they are not as bad as they were yesterday.

He continues to fight so all we can do is to help him in any way we can.  The next few days and weeks will tell us more.

hi guys, have just checked in on the wee fella and he is looking a tad better this morning.  His eyes have cleared up some and look a lot drier and he looks a little more rested.

We gave him a big thick cover last night so that he could rest on it as we found that he was 'hovering' because he was too sore to lay on the single cover in the pen.  Checked on him late last night / this morning and he had managed to snuggle down and get some rest.

I'll be taking him to the vets around 9.30 as he is to be seen at 10ish.   Will update you all when we get back.  :wish:

Hi guys, here are a couple of piccies that I took of this little one tonight.  I have intentionally not posted the worst as I don't want to upset anyone and as soon as he has seen the vet in the morning I will report back and let you know what the outcome is.  We do wonder if he is deaf as he doesn't react to much but then that could just be because he is feeling so weak.

We hated having to mess him around a little to make sure we got photographs, but I just want to be very sure that should any 'owner' come forward we have documented evidence of his condition when he arrived. (if you see where I'm coming from)

Our hearts just break for this sweet little man.  :'(   :Luv2:

awww, the poor thing, I'm so glad he's in your care now give him a gentle hug from me please

I will  :)

was he living as a stray, or being neglected by his owner?

I honestly don't know 100% but the people who called us about him referred to him as the Stray Cat. They had asked around but no-one knew of him or where he may have lived.  Our initial report this morning was of a stray with a broken leg (which no other rescue in the area including the largest of charities would respond to).  Even though we are full to bursting already we knew what would happen when all the other doors were closed already so regardless we knew the only thing we could do for his sake was to go and get him and get him here and safe.

When we did go to collect him he was sat on top of a worktop on top of the noisest bounciest washing machine in the world on full spin!!   Little man was pretty stressed out... but still very vocal and yowling a lot.  He is still quite vocal but you can tell he is weak.  I won't be surprised if he deteriorates tonight as I have a feeling that once he feels completely safe he will relax and as I'm sure many of us know that is when everything bubbles to the surface.  :'(

But that said he still has that wee glint in his eye.   :)  despite the fact he must wonder what on earth is coming towards him with us covered in overalls, aprons, gloves etc because of the flu'ey type symptoms that have begun to appear in the last 3/4 hr.  (would rather be over cautious than under).  ;)

I will be popping in and out to check on him throughout ther night and we plan to take photo's in a little bit once he has settled to document his condition just in case any 'owner' does come forward without any good reason for his appalling condition.

I will, as always keep you updated and please say a wee prayer or send a wee vibe for this wee fella.  he is suffering so much he really deserves some good luck.

we've settled him down and made him comfortable for now.  A vet visit in the am may shed more light on things.

He has attempted to eat but his wee mouth appears to be very painfull so we have had to give him soft mushy food and may try him with recovery food later on too.

Poor wee man really isn't in the best of shape at all and I dread to think if he would have lasted much longer outside on his own.  We're just letting him settle for now and will get some piccies later on.

We have not long returned from being called out to collect a lovely old cat that is in a very very poor way.  His skin is red, inflamed and there are open sores on his legs and back.  He has gunky eyes is painfully thin, weak and generally very very low.

Will  hope to get some piccies of this little babe soon.  Despite all this he is still has a wee sparkle and we are currently trying to make him  as comfortable as possible so that we can get him into the vet in the morning for a once over and see how bad or good thing actually are.

Fingers and paws are crossed for now that we can give him a comfortable night.  Will try and get a pic of the wee fella in a bit.
