I have a very big issue with these sites and do try bestest to defer people from them.. In the last few wks i posted this and would advise all rescue who have such accounts on these sites to do the same... Just amenda so needed..
In kitten season i see a ten fold increase in kittens FOTG.. but i never respond to these adverts, but i do have a few posts for neutering etc... Anyhows... all we can do is educate and in this instance the health of these kitten and the way the post was made i would of though goes against the rules of the advert on this site.. Maybe worth emailing mods on the site to tell them..
There was a big debate last yr about these horrid sites as the pressure it puts on rescue is alot.. At the moment people are using to rehome cats due to eviction as well...Considering i have had at least a call a day about such cases in our area which is perhaps recognised as being a little bit affluent in places. I have no idea how bad it is countrywide... Anyhow.. we sadly cannot save them all.. ! and it does take abit of time for anyone involved in rescue to see that. We can just grind away with waht we can do and hope it makes a difference to the ones we do help... (and educate)
We are Canterbury and District Cats Protection and currently we are on overspill with kittens!
So...Why are pet shops and private ads sellers charging so much for a kitten? - as much as £40-£100 each!" We are often asked this question by people contacting us enquiring to adopt cats and kittens.
The fact that cats are seasonal breeders giving birth to a litter in Spring and another later in the Summer, means that in the first few months of the year there are not so many kittens around so people wanting to profit from any kittens available sell them for as much as they can. Further into the Summer months there will be too many kittens around and prices sharply fall. By mid Summer kittens cannot easily be sold at all and many more unwanted kittens are taken into rescue centres (often under threat of abandonment or harm) adding to the numbers of cats and kittens for whom there just are not enough good homes to go round.
Having rescued our cats we will not put healthy cats to sleep to make room for more. We tend to assume that most people do not agree with destroying healthy cats and dogs. The reality is that every day in the U.K. hundreds of healthy animals are destroyed because there are not enough homes to go round.
In order to achieve a future where healthy animals are not routinely destroyed not only is intensive neutering required but for people who are able to offer homes to less than perfect cats do so.
So by adopting a rescue cat you have a major impact on helping other cats. We do home visits for all our cats and kittens to make sure, to the best of our ability that they do not end up in rescue again. We do ask for donations to help us continue our work.
ALL OUR CATS AND KITTENS ARE VET CHECKED, VAC (1ST JAB GIVEN AT 8WKS) FLEA, WORMED AND ARE HOMED WITH 4WKS FREE which is more then you would get from a kitten with no history and having never been to the vets in its short life..
