On your knees would be the ideal but unfortunately the old arthritic joints prohibit that particular method.  I looked up on the internet re Frontline etc., and the statement is that they do kill mites but only those on the body, the ear canal ones need direct treatment.  However, it seems that he has decided to be a good lad and is tolerating the drops extremely well.  Fingers crossed he continues.  Thanks everyone.

Yes, just me.  This is his second time with ear mites.  The first time round was horrendous but he was fairly new to me and not settled.  This time I am trying not to stress him too much so I just cuddle him up on the sofa and hold him close, but I can see that as I persist with it he is going to get harder to handle.  You know, I don't actually recall the vet saying but will assume two weeks as per last time.  The towel will, however, remain in readiness.  I do find that before I feed him seems to work better, food is a good distraction especially for Jake who is a big lad and is forever telling me he needs his sustenance.

Is it just you? If so then wrapping in a towel would be the easiest method, how long is he on them?

I actually managed it this morning, much to his disgust before his breakfast.  He hated it and was nearly as good as gold.  No scratching, biting just struggling to get away, of course next time the towel will be handy - just in case.  Maybe, deep down, he knows why I'm doing this to him, what do you think?

How about trying to wrap him in a large bath towel so all feet are secure, then tuck him under your arm so hands are free to administer drops ,without getting bit ;)

I wish, if I move, he moves.  He sleeps with me and if I wake up he watches me, if I get up for the bathroom, he jogs along too.  Not a cat you can sneak up on very well.  However, will try anything once.

Any suggestions on how to put ear drops in a cats ears, when he is as big, strong and stubborn as Jakey is.  He hates me messing with his ears at the best of times and now I have to do his drops twice a day for the next fortnight, heaven help me I am going to be needing leather gauntlets before this is over.
