What to feed in this weather?

and I've certainly seen her taking on a lot more water than she used to with the wet food so I'm happy to leave her with this.  At others have said it means less of a problem with flies.

Thats because they don't need to drink water when they eat wet food, they get all the moisture they need from their food. When they drink with dry, its because they are trying to keep themselves hydrated, which could be achieved by feeding wet. As MM said, flys get everywhere, even dry food 

Mine are eating pretty much normally, and they always eat all up in one go anyway so 'no flies on us' LOL!

my cat is always wanting to be out even if its raining, but thats cause she likes to get soaking wet and then sitting on my lap so she can dry off. but for feeding i give her same amount as i do all year round. wet food in the morning and evening when its cooler and she is wanting to eat, and i leave a bowl of dry down during the day and what hasn't been eaten is then thrown away if the dogs don't get to it first lol

I know that furbabies don't eat as much during this hot weather

Neither Jaffa nor Mosi have received that memo    They are both emptying their bowls as usual.

Maybe try feeding smaller amounts more often. 

When I cook chicken for the boys I usually just grill or bake it.  They prefer it raw though 

Same here, my lot get the same portions all year round and its always eaten. Flies still crawl over dry food so leaving it down at this time of year appeals even less to me

My adult cat seems to have totally gone off wet food anyway and won't eat it.  I've increased the number of water bowls around the house to be on the safe side (Penny has suffered from cystitis in the past) and I've certainly seen her taking on a lot more water than she used to with the wet food so I'm happy to leave her with this.  At others have said it means less of a problem with flies. The kitten seems to prefer the dry food as well (totally refused wet kitten food a couple of times now) but i'm mixing her biscuits with water to make sure she stays fully hydrated.

If he is neutered, you might want to slowly change his biscuits from kitten to adult, or you will end up with an overweight cat. I agree wth Mark that it is better to give them complete food when they aren't eating a lot. TBH, mine haven't really stopped eating.

We have reduced the amount we give him to take account of the fact that he's neutered.  I have however bought a pack of adult to start him on after the current bag of kitten has finished.

I'm not too worried just now, he polished off the half can of tuna last night and also ate some biscuits and this morning he pounced on his breakfast but then it's cooler today so that will help.

I've not bothered to pick up any wet today because of this but will be going into town tomorrow anyway so will look at what Tesco has to offer while I'm there.

I am the same with wet food. The problem is keeping Willow's fluids up. I keep puting it out early in the morning planning to take it away after 1/2 hour but keep forgettig and going back to food covered in eggs 

I am tempted to order the bowl from ebay that opens when the cat get near and closes afterwards. I think You can also put iced water in the bottom.

Weve been doing dry food by day to stop flies - both cats like to graze and wet food left down is a hazard when its as hot as this ... 

Weve upped the water bowls ....  Kitchen, bedroom and balcony.

Ive also been adding fish and water to their late night meal so its about 50% Felix and 50% tuna in spring water or mackerel which Ive added bottled spring water to.  They lap up the resulting "mush n gravy" with great gusto.

Id tried a little shredded, roasted chicken but they werent interested - normally they'd kill for it!!   

And when Mr T turns up his nose at a slice of ham you know he is really suffering in the heat 

Fish seems to be the solution here!

I've tried him on a Hills sachet of wet before and it upset him. 

I'm pretty sure Hill's wet is in gravy? - Gravy foods often upset cats stomachs. I don't the quality justifies the price with Hill's

Sanbury's do a premium one that is grain free for around £4 with minium 14% of stated meat or fish. It also has prebiotics which help with a dodgy tum. I gave Alice a Salmon one this morning with water added so she could drink the gravy 

You can buy single pouches of chicken or Salmon to try it - they also do variety boxes of fish or meat flavours. Better quality than Felix or Whiskas for not much more money  - there is no chance of banning the junk food in trhis house though

Hubby says the biscuits that were down when I got in from work were only put down this morning so it seems he has been eating more than I initially thought  (I thought Hubby had been lazy and not changed what was there from last night).

I'll scoot into town tomorrow and see if I can get him something complete and wet and maybe alternate that with his biscuits.

I try to go for complete food rather than treats when they aren't eating a lot. Alice hasn't eaten much today so I gave her a pouch of felix sardine & plaice with water added rather than sardines. At least that way, I know she is getting her vits and balanced diet.

I oven bake chicken and they sometimes get a whole roast bird between them  they love roast meats the best.
White fish is easy to prepare, you get frozen blocks in the supermarkets and nuke in the microwave and voila

Generally avoid tuna, its fine for an odd treat tho.

Have you tried him on some good quality wet like applaws (or encore if you shop in sainsburys)? The rescue will have used whiskas or similar which are more likely to upset his tummy

I know that furbabies don't eat as much during this hot weather but I'm a bit concerned that Samson isn't eating very much at all.  He's also neutered which I understand means he would normally eat less than an entire male anyway.

I've just put down half of a small can of tuna for him which of course he's loving  (even if his litter tray will be  later as he only ever eats biscuits!) but what else can I try and tempt him with?

I was thinking of sorting out some chicken for him, but what's the best way of cooking this for cats? Just in the oven with no oil?
