OK people I think you have got your point across ... there is no need to turn this into a "hate thread".  Personal attacks and nasty remarks are NOT what we are about on here.

I realise that people are upset that advice given was not headed but that does not give anyone the right to attack another member of the forum.

I would therefore request that we try to remain civil and remember if you can't say something nice or constructive then it's probably best not to say anything at all.

Thanks.

I think we all feel let down, at the very least, by the way events have been allowed to progress

Lots of us have posted on Purrs for help - thats how I came here myself  - asking for advice - and always there are people who come forward and offer advice. Thanks you all for helping me out, numerous times  :)

Whether or not we take the advice is of course up to us .....

But to continually ask for help and ignore all the advice - even when a cat has died ......

I'm very saddened

Ive held back from posting much on this thread up until now - I hoped lessons would be learned.

It looks as if they haven't

Please, please ANYONE in this situation, or a similar one, take the good advice offered - it would be dreadful if help and advice was no longer offered because members felt that they were being taken for a ride or strung along .....

Help is there for anyone who asks for it, but its hard to offer help to someone who abuses our trust !

Thats it - Ive had my say, for what its worth "

I am not going to post exactly how I feel because I would probably be banned from Purrs and LISA you are not worth getting banned for.

WHY are you so desparate to get another kitten just to put its life in danger ??? are you really so uncaring or just plain stupid ? I truly think that if Portia had received proper veterinary treatment straight away she may have stood a chance at a life and that thought breaks my heart, we will never know now.  I feel sorry for Rosie and any other cat that you take on.

I also wont be replying to any more of your posts in the future.

Sorry but i am  :censored: :censored: :censored: :censored: angry and disgusted at whats going on here .
Another kitten after what happened to Portia is totally out of order and downright uncaring !
If whats been said on here that you were sat typing whilst Portia was so ill and you sat looking for sympathy - you should have got off your butt and walked to the vets !
I cannot believe this and poor Portia was suffering all that time and you say you care !?
If you have a ill cat -you go without yourself so you can take it to the vet !!!!!!!!!!!!! Did you even enquire at the vets if you could pay weekly/monthly for treatment???
Rosies vaccinations elapsed in 2007 -what the hell are you playing at !????
You really shouldn''t be taking on any cats ( and to lie about it is unacceptable behaviour and a guilty conscience !!) until you read a few books on cat care, take advice from experienced cat owners , and save up till you can pay for a vet .
If you were ill or any of your family -i bet they would see a doctor immedietly -well cats cannot talk and they need to see a vet immedietly too !!!
I really am going off this thread - i am so bloody angry that people wont go without themselves and this poor little kitten has had to suffer and now another one is in the same household within a week .
Some people need a brain !
You really don''t give a dam about your cats welfare at all -you are bloody selfish and uncaring and as others have put -i wont put more else i will also be banned -what i want to say is unrepeatable !!!!!!

Lisa is still looking for other kittens. Curiosity got the better of me and I will admit I shouldn't maybe have done this but I replied to one of Lisa's ads on the classified sites. Reply she sent me below.

Hiya
Yes we are , can you give me some info on him please , Where abouts are you as i have no transport to collect .
regards lisa

I asked if she was still looking and that's the response I got.

Lisa you have to start listening to the good, experiences advice you are given. You are putting animals at risk. You do not have the financial means to care for one cat let alone any more. Rosie's vaccinations aren't even up to date!

Just to put in my bit here...

Lisa,  you have been through a rough time with Portia, it was not your fault that she was ill,  but if you do have another kitten at home this is VERY serious,  the kitten will get sick,  enteritis really will wipe kittens out in days (it will kill them in the end) it is a nasty thing that stays around the household,  Rosie is also at risk if her injections are our of date.  I know what it is like to want another kitten so badly,  look at me,  I have 10 of them here and I still want another one.  We know all you want to do is give kittens love but there is a time when you have to take responsibility for your actions and if you have another kitten in your house that in un-injected you have literally sentaced it to be very poorly or even die.  I dont expect you to tell us anything about your private life,  but just do one thing and have a chat with your vet and explain the situation,  they will be able to help and give you the right course of action,  hopefully if you get the right treatment for them all will be OK and it would be lovely to see pictiures of them on here so we know how they are getting on.  :Luv2:

I am not going to say anymore because I really believe all you want to do is provide a nice home for the kittens,  but this is just not the right time.

A truly awful disease, please keep a close eye on rosie as vaccination doesnt provide 100% protection  :(
I wish your new animals the best of luck and hope if they get ill they will be seen by a vet immediately.

Rosie's vaccinations lapsed in 2007.

He says Portia had feline enteritis.

How sad and such a worry.I and I expect others especially in rescue have seen whole households wiped out with this terrible disease.

What I would say to anyone who has had a cat/kitten in the home with this terrible disease is to discard toys, dishes, trays, bed and other equipment used by the cat/kitten.

I understand the virus can live for up to a year outside the cat/kittens  body so if anyone does not  want to wait that long before getting another cat, it's probably safer to adopt a fully vaccinated adult cat rather than a kitten

Excellent advice Ela.

Lisa, a lot of people use other pet forums that come on here. I myself use about three others and one specialist site for reptiles. People were very concerned about Portia and it seems quite rightly so.

Please remember that if you have an issue with another member on the forum that it's best not to air it on a thread.

....and do you really believe that by taking the gorgeous b&w kitten off your signature means that he/she wasnt seen by anyone?

Yes, I spotted that little kitten too, it does seem to have disappeared now though! I assumed it meant that Lisa had got the all clear from the vet.

I cannot belive how you are all joining pet forums just to view my profile

I'm sure many of us are members of other forums, I know I am and have been for a long time. Most I don't post on, but like to see whats going on! You don't need to be registered to view most of them, only to post.

Lisa, this is the last reply you will get from me on this forum.

I'm very glad you don't have that lovely little back and white kitten with the black cap and half tash that you had on the profile on the other forum - if anyone has that page cached on their pc then perhaps we can show the one we are referring to.

The fact that I knew you had a kitten before seeing the profile is another thing for you to consider.

Anyway, I just hope your new kitten and the other one you are trying to get do not fall ill. I do not understand why someone 'new to cats' did not listen to the worries expressed on this forum about contagion - something which you can see the vet has also expressed concern over, though you have probably chosen to ignore that part of the post.

You were totally out of your depth with Portia - not entirely your fault as she was very ill but you sat posting on this forum about how ill she was with her lying on you mat needing treatment - if you had really cared for her you would have walked the mile to the PDSA clinic and not just typed up about how you could not afford it all.

I feel sorry for any animal that comes into contact with you! 3  :censored: days you knew Portia was ill, 3  :censored: days you craved the attention of all without doing a damn thing to help her, I urged you (as did many) to get her to a vet but all you could say was I cant afford it! Animals cost money, just cos you manage to obtain them for free does not mean that they have less of a right you know!

Personally I would not even let you have a virtual pet!!!  >:(

Ross the vet has just phoned.
He says Portia had feline enteritis.
I have the vaccination card and told him this and he has asked me to get it to him as he has to report it to the vaccine company.

I phoned the vet that vaccinated portia when i picked up the card, as the first vaccine does not have a vaccine label against it though both were signed by the vet at the cat and rabbit care clinic in northampton. There was some trouble at the vets identifying  Portia as I believe the kittens name is not put on the certificate (as they have no name at this stage?)

But then i am a suspicious person.....

Anyway Ross says that if the kitten belonged to one of his clients he would tell them not to get another kitten for at least one month and then only bring the kitten into the house AFTER the kitten had received its full course of 2 injections plus another two weeks to ensure that immunisation had occurred. (and of course the bedding etc, properly disinfected). Existing cats should be checked out. Enteritis is VERY infectious.

Lets hope there is not a new strain of Enteritis going on.....

having lost a Mum and 3 kittens to FIP - Gem and her babies - Star, Cairo and Shanghai and having her daughter Beijing I can say its is a terrible situation but we had about 30 of the Clan tested - and only Beijing came back as a Corona carrier - she is a happy soul and currently playing with the mouse by my keyboard

We were lucky that we could afford the tests - even with our discount Christmas got less than the usual fanfare

We haven't added anyone else to the Clan in the interim although I have 2 new black ferals outside who look young so will be trapping again soon

I would have Rosie tested and then wait a good long while before contermplating adding another furkid

When we rescued Gem we never thought it would end in tragedy and it cost us well in to 4 figures and broke our hearts even after a short time - Beijing stayed with us as we have her father and Gem entrusted us with her daugher.

I know emotions are running high with ref to Portia but please be guided by others on her ,they have vast experience and knowledge of these things, i know its tempting to have  kittens especially when they are on free ads but please learn from this dreadful experience, you are  hurting and may even feel a bit of guilt over Portia and you tried so hard to help her but sometimes with the best will in the world our best isnt good enough, we dont have the resources / knowledge to deal with these situations

Please Lisa, when the time does come for you to offer another cat a home, don't do it through any of the free classifieds. You are running the risk of something very similar happening again. You won't know the history of the parents, whether there are any pre-existing conditions etc. At least from a rescue they will have been given as full a health check and pass as any cat can have. Again though, I would wait until you are financially in a better position and give Rosie a bit of time to settle and be tested if needs be after Portia's results come back.

Number one concern to everyone on here is the cats and sadly, as much as we try to be sympathetic, our emotions overtake us and we lose a little concern for the human involved in the story.
